S- State Objective
0My first grade class will learn to identify and learn the terms of the five senses which are hearing, touching, tasting, smelling, and seeing with 100% accuracy in one class period. In addition, students will use varied types of technology such as computers, posters, and social medias to be introduced to the senses.
S- Select Methods, Media, and Materials
0 The available materials that will be used on Monday include the computer and the projector.
0The teacher will modify the classroom so that the students’ chairs allow an easy view of the projection.
0The teacher will also modify the lighting so that the projection is easily visible.
0The teacher will be speaking along side these visual aids and helpful tools to utilize them effectively.
S- Select Methods, Media, and Materials
0New materials that will be designed for this Unit include Second Life, Media and Materials, Twitter, and Blogs.
Utilize Media and Materials
0 Preview the projections from the computer to ensure the image is visible and of good quality.
0Ask the students if everyone can easily view the screen
0The teacher should ensure that everyone can hear her and that she has their attention by testing their response and reprimanding those who are distracted
0Make sure that the poster is laid out and ready for use
0Make sure the access to Blogger, Second Life, and Twitter are working adequately
R- Require Learner Participation
0The students will be first introduced to the topic through the poster provided. The poster has all five senses listed on it with an icon of each sense.
0The poster will be used as a visual aid as the teacher goes into depth explaining what each sense is and by asking the students “what sense is this one?” by using a pointer to select a word on the poster.
This is the poster that will be used for this portion.
R- Require Learner Participation
0The teacher will then introduce the class blog. This blog will keep track of all the work and assignments the students par-take in
0 Parents of the children can access it to view the assignments and to know what they need to practice with their children
0This blog will also work as a teacher’s journal to keep tabs on what the students enjoyed, struggled in, and disliked.
This is the blog that will be used. It shows the welcome post!
The class blog URL is http://cooopersclass.blogspot.com/
R- Require Learner Participation
0The teacher will next bring up Second life. The teacher will use the students’ help and participation in editing the face features and body of the Second Life character. The senses have to do with your eyes, nose, ears, mouth, and skin; showing that all people have different sizes and shapes of these helps kids identify where the senses originate from.
0An example: “People smell with their nose. A nose can be small, large, short, long, pointed, etc.”
R- Require Learner Participation
0 Second Life can also be used to use your sense of sight to see places in a virtual way that the students may never get a chance to see in person.
Here is the example of Second Life being used.
Evaluate and Revise
0The students will be evaluated in multiple ways on this first day of the unit. They will be evaluated based on their participation, their interest, and their behavior and manners during the introduction and the exploration of the basic identities of the senses.
0 Students should be able to recite all five senses easily. If not, the senses that trouble the students should be emphasized through the remainder of the unit.
