Behavioral health programs are often life-saving. For the families of those affected by mental health, these programs can also be life changing. The Family-to-Family program provides critical information and strat-egies for family and friends of people living with these afflictions. By improving the coping and problem-solving abilities of these trusted peers, they are then better equipped to love and support someone going through these experiences. Through a group setting, Family-to-Family offers the support of others going through similar situations, while cultivating respect and understanding.

Transportation is often taken for granted. When your ability to get yourself to critical appointments is jeopardized, you must rely on others for something that used to be commonplace. The Central Iowa RSVP Volunteer Driver Program helps alleviate the burden of finding the means to get to essential services like health appointments. Harold, pictured here, started volunteering for the program after losing his mom, realizing that he was lucky to have been able to take her to appointments when needed. Others don’t always have that level of support, and for those individuals, volunteers like Harold are ready to provide a way.

Having a baby is an exciting time. It can also be overwhelming, especially if parents are uneasy

in their new roles. Stork’s Nest, a United Way funded program, is there to help. Participants

can earn points to redeem for baby supplies and equipment, like bottles, clothes, diapers, even cribs and strollers. Points are earned through

attending classes, prenatal office visits, well-baby visits, and home visits. During each of

these, vital education is passed along to participants to help ready themselves in

parenthood and provide the youngest children in our community a stable beginning.

UWSC announces Bill and Deb Fennelly as 2018 Campaign Chairs. As long time members of the Story County community, the Fennellys are involved with many philanthropic causes. Their support of United Way runs deep, because they see the variety of needs supported by one organization. United Way is a community convener in a unique position to make long-lasting, positive change for everyone. Following Bill and Deb will be 2019 Campaign Chair, Mike Espeset. Over the coming months, he will head the leadership portion of the drive.

IN ORDER TO LIVE BETTER, WE MUST LIVE UNITED.

When you give, advocate, and volunteer with United Way of Story County you can be sure even the littlest things create big wins. The leadership donors you see credited here have our sincere appreciation for their generous donations. Without gifts at the leadership level, the landscape of United Way’s work would look vastlydifferent. We all benefit when a child succeeds in school, when someone finds a job that will help them provide for their family, or when more people can access essential health services. With your help, we can do even more.
