Silent MeditationLast Sunday our Speaker gave for

silent meditation, ‘' I am meek and lowly in heart.”

Before taking the thought into the Silence he said we should seek to realize the meaning of the injunction of Jesus, “ Pray to the Father in secret and he will reward thee openly.”

The ‘ ‘ Father in secret ” is the Divine Mind in the everywhere present invisible. It is secret to sense consciousness, but may be seen by the Spirit. Before seeing God we must withdraw from the world of visibility and enter into the closet of the mind. The wordy prayers of the outer world fail to heal the sick because they do not lay hold of Spirit. Spirit is the all-pervading life and it flows deep down in mind and body.

The egotism of mortality must be laid by before man can feel the Spirit. • Jesus gave this treatment to overcome mortal self-sufficiency, ‘ ‘ I am meek and lowly in heart.”

The Concert a SuccessThe Unity Auditorium was well filled

Friday evening, August 6th, and all present were much pleased with the entertainment. The Victrola talked, sang and played in a most realistic manner. The program had variety enough to suit all. Caruso, Sembrich, Scotti, Tetrazzini, Schumann-Heink and other grand opera favorites sang quite will

ingly. Cal. Stewart and his wife seemed to enjoy going through the whole ceremony of the wedding of Uncle Josh and Aunt Nancy. Frogs croaked, roosters crowed, dogs barked, birds twittered and calves bawled with pleasing eloquence. Sousa’s and Pryor’s Bands played gaily. The Victrola would have filled a hall twice or three times the size of Unity with melody. Every word could be distinctly heard 'in tfie extreme back of the hall and in the parlors.

The Victrola is a recent invention and is manufactured by the Victor Talking Machine Company.

Interspersed among the mechanical numbers on the program were selections by living, breathing human beings. Mrs. Blanche Haseltine held the listeners spellbound while reading “ The Lost Word,” by Van Dyke, and convulsed them with laughter by “The Lady Across the Aisle.” Miss Carrie Fox charmed us with her pleasing voice and graceful acting while singing “ Sun Bonnet Sue ” and other ballads. Mr. Barrett brought down the house with his bone solos. Miss Celia Fox accompanied her sister Carrie and Mr. Barrett on the piano.

Although the entertainment lasted until 10:30 no one was restless, and all would have stayed a little longer if the music had continued.

UNITY CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOL

The New BookTwelve Lessons in Christian Healing

by Charles Fillmore is meeting with a* hearty welcome from many sources. Orders have been filled which came from all parts of the United States and from some of the foreign countries. The book contains statements, essays and treatments in addition to the regular twelve lessons.

Following are some extracts:“ God does not change his mind nor

trim his thought to meet the conflicting opinions of mankind.”

“ We can praise our own ability, and the very brain cells will expand and increase in capacity and intelligence when we speak words of encouragement and appreciation to them.”

The book sells for 60 cents in neat paper cover, and $1.25 in substantial cloth binding. For sale in the Library.

In Examination TimeMiss Clara Evelyn McHugh, a teacher

in one of the Topeka schools, read at a recent teacher’s meeting from a collection of quaint examination answers that she had been gathering for some years.

The gems in Miss McHugh’s collection were:

“ A blizzard is the inside of hen.”

“ The equator is a menagerie lion running round the earth.”

“ Oxygen is a thing that has eight sides.”

“Thecuckoo never lays its own eggs.” “A mosquito is a child of black and

white parents.”— Indianapolis News.

Keep your eyes open to your mercies. That part of piety is eternal, and the man who forgets to be thankful has fallen asleep in life.—Robert Louis Stevenson.
