Event Management is not just about knowledge and experience, it is also about networking. Our training has proven results and 40 years of experience means an unparalleled network of connections.

Event management is the best job you could ever have. It is creative, fast paced, exciting, sometimes glamorous and you get to meet and work with the most amazing

people on the planet. Festivals, Conferences, Exhibitions, Promotions, Sport, Celebrity Management, Fundraising, Sponsorship, Health & Safety and more are covered in depth in the course.

Our position and reputation within the event management industry means that we have

become one of the first calling points for event companies looking to recruit. They know that our students are good and have the required training and support to be an asset to any event team from day one.

We will get you the vital event experience that you need. We introduce our

students to new job opportunities via our intranet which is only accessible to Terbell past

and present students. The Intranet hosts relevant job opportunities both paid and unpaid, lists useful websites and encourages students to visit the right trade shows and exhibitions. We like to stay in touch with past students as the majority are in the event industry and they pass on great opportunities both paid and unpaid to current students.

What would you do if you needed a new member in your event team? – Had you taken the course or been affiliated to the course, you would look for a student with a similar background and you would make Terbell EMT your first point of call. If not, would you take a chance on someone who would like to get into events or would you interview an event management student who has taken the time to learn the craft by attending an industry recognised course and gained valuable event experience?

Group Project Work

Students will be grouped and tasked to produce a pitch presentation (project) for an event based on a real life brief. The plan will be based on a single brief given to the students at the start of the course. Groups will pitch their project ideas as if they were a real agency and complete a detailed leave behind.

The lectures will support the information required to complete the coursework. Students will use the coursework to apply their learning’s to real life scenarios. This is by far the best way to learn.

The pitch presentation will make up 60% of the final marks in the examination. This will be assessed by an independent industry professional.

Examination

The course written exam will make up the remaining 40% of the marks.

The exam is open book and will be 2.5hrs long including a combination of short essay questions written in brief form and multiple choice questions based on the course syllabus.

The multiple choice / short question section is compulsory. Students may choose three of the five short essay questions. All questions are set by the individual trainers on the subjects on which they lecture.

Students are allowed their course folder as reference material in the examination room (Open Book Exam). The exam will be marked by an independent industry professional and is accredited by the ICM.

Resource Material The information and lecture material has been written specifically for purpose by Adam Proto and Joanna Kerr along with the specialist lecturers based on real life knowledge experience and case studies.

The course material has been cross referenced using industry sources and references to ensure the content is both accurate and up to date. Students are given comprehensive course notes in a PDF format at the end of each lecture in order to build up their own Event Management Library.

Student Testimonials (Please see website for more testimonials)

Alex Thomas, Operations Manager, Olympics 2012, graduate Jan 2012

“Being in the process of a career change the Terbell course was recommended to me by a friend and former graduate. From initial conversations I was very impressed with the

friendliness, passion and dedication of the team at Terbell. I had some fairly varied work experience prior to researching the course but access to the Volunteering and Work Experience database and links proved invaluable. Through a volunteering link I undertook a position with World Skills London 2011 which allowed me to put the excellent tuition and classroom based theory into practice and reinforce what was being taught week by week.

I would highly recommend that people take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and resources that the course provides. I found most lecturers highly informative and engaging and their energy for passing on their extensive knowledge was clear to see. As a result of the solid foundation that this course has offered me I am currently enjoying my time with the London 2012 Olympics as an Assistant Operations Manager for the Olympic and Paralympic Ceremonies. For me, Terbell was the bridge to what is promising to be a dream career. One life, live it”.

Lulu Gunter, Event Director, graduate Jan 2012

“With a background in Performance, Production and Live events, I wanted to broaden and develop my skills within event management. The diploma course far exceeded my expectations: not only were sessions delivered by industry experts with current sector experience and knowledge but the quality of the teaching and learning was outstanding.

The lectures were packed full of information with a good blend of discussion with sometimes challenging tasks. However, everything was made fully accessible and as a former Academy head in post 16 education it was an exciting experience to be on the receiving end for once!

The passion, enthusiasm and motivation from each of our lecturers was infectious and Jo encouraged every individual to take our learnings further through valuable work experience.

Since completing the course I have successfully developed my Events Management company to now include a much wider scope of live events. I have secured an excellent relationship within an established venue which includes a 1,000 delegate capacity conference centre, a nightclub and a hotel. I have also been taken on to run future events for them over the next couple of months. These include a large scale Wedding, a Prom Fayre and a Summer Masked Ball.

I have used my course notes on more than a few occasions as points of reference which help to reinforce my confidence. I will also be meeting the Mayor in the next few weeks to discuss my commission to event manage her Inauguration Charity Ball. I now offer small scale IAG events through to large private birthday parties. Thanks to the knowledge and skills that I developed whilst on the course, my company can now offer a more diversified and specialised service. With Jo’s positive belief in you as a student it really is difficult not to achieve your goals! I would therefore thoroughly recommend the diploma to anyone who is serious about taking their knowledge further or in learning new skills – even Risk Assessment and Finance

can become exciting when the people delivering the subject area are respected practitioners and speak with experience and first hand knowledge!

Please feel free to email me [email protected] if you would like more insight into this course”.

Kate Larkin, University Event Management Student, graduate Jan 2012

“Before moving to London I had completed 2 years of an event management course at Uni in Ireland and I can safely say that I have learnt more in the short 3 months than in the 2 years at University (and spent a lot less money!!).

I highly recommend the Terbell Event Management course. I researched various courses but for me this one stood out, mainly due to the fact the lecturers are all successfully working within the event industry and the outline of the course seemed relevant and interesting. I then spoke to Jo over the phone. She was very passionate about the course and events and I knew this was the course for me.

The course itself was brilliant. Small numbers made it more personal and meant all the students got to know each other better. The class was a mix of industry professionals with different backgrounds and people who are trying to get into the event industry. I found this good as not only are you learning from your lecturers but also from your fellow students. Each lecture had a different style of teaching which kept the course interesting.

A big part of this industry is networking, putting yourself out there and getting to know people. I think this course is an excellent opportunity to start doing this. It is also very motivating that a lot of fellow students have excellent jobs or even run their own event companies”!

Andrew Grierson, Event Management Birmingham, graduate Jan 2012

“Having worked for over 10 years in a number of sectors of the events industry, I was keen to expand my career horizons and saw a professional qualification as a good way of helping me to achieve my aims.

After looking at numerous courses, I settled with Terbell based on the calibre of the lecturing staff and the smaller class sizes than many competing offerings. Having spoken to Jo, her passion for the industry and for the course was also immediately apparent. Throughout the course, the teaching materials were relevant and delivered in a competent and interactive manner. The lecturers were also extremely helpful in answering our questions and providing guidance and advice. Coming from a point of some industry knowledge, this course more than exceeded my expectations and has opened my horizons to new and innovative working practices and techniques. I would happily recommend the course to anyone looking to establish or further a career in the events industry”.

Sarah Yates, Operations Manager, Olympics 2012, graduate Jan 2012

“I really enjoyed the Terbell Event Managing Course this Autumn. It broadened my knowledge of event management and it has widened my knowledge of career options in the event industry.

I was lucky enough to gain two valuable work experiences during the course, one at WorldSkills London as Catering & Logistics Manager and Assistant Event Manager at Hastings Ice Rink. These two experiences have already improved my CV and given me contacts in London and further afield which will hopefully prove to be a benefit in the future.

I found course content interesting both in consolidating my existing knowledge, as well as equipping me with completing new tools and methods of approaching event management and client liaison. I found the tutors inspirational overall and the content inspiring, potentially (but realise the time restrictions) it would be good to have some more practical methods of teaching and site visits built into the course. I made some great contacts through the course, both tutors and other students, some of which have proven to be great contacts already. It was inspiring to be surrounded my people that were enthusiastic about event managing and from a diverse range of fields. Perhaps the division between experienced and non-experienced students could have been managed better. It became difficult with such a wide difference in knowledge and aspiration when doing the group project.

I would definitely recommend the course to future students both in content, experience and contacts established. I wanted to gain more knowledge in event managing in corporate and other sectors outside of the arts and gain contacts further afield. I feel the course introduced me to a range of areas in event management and has given me the tools and confidence to broaden my career options”. Chantal Crossland, Kia Motors, graduate July 2011

“Learning more about the exciting world of events has always been a great desire of mine. The question was, where do I start?? After joining the Terbell Event Management course in April, I soon realised that this industry covered so much more than just glamorous cocktail parties and face painting!

All of a sudden I was exposed to the evaluation of risk factors, consideration of health & safety elements, the intense planning, PR and marketing of a successful event and so much more. Being taught by different industry professionals who specialise in their own fields made lectures fun, interesting and exciting. I could not wait for the beginning of every new week to gain further insight into this creative industry. An added bonus was our wonderful, multi-cultural class of students who all had one thing in common…events! Needless to say this comprehensive three-month course ended all too soon but it was without a doubt a thorough introduction to events and an enjoyable course, which I can strongly recommend”.

Divya Sirothier, graduate Jan 2011 “I have been wanting to say this after almost every lecture but you have kept us really busy!

I find the lectures very interesting, informative and full of industry knowledge. It's been great to just hear you guys, your experience, get the insights and inputs at all levels. And especially thanks to you Jo for pulling it all together for us. Thank you for everything. Divya”.

Ana Romero, Concert Tour Manager, graduate April 2011 “Having gained several years of experience in event and tour management in Italy and continental Europe, I have taken a career break in order to come to London, improve my English and take an Event Management course in order to upgrade my skills and better understand the UK market. I spent a long time researching but from the moment I had the pre-course interview with Jo, I felt that this was the right course for me. Each lecture was different from the others and together they covered all the relevant areas of Event Management. The lectures are held by professionals who share with us their vast knowledge and provide useful and practical tips from their real life experience.

We were given a project to be prepared during the course. This was hard work but an extremely interesting and rewarding experience. Organizing an event in all its aspects and also simulating a real pitch with customers was a big challenge that fostered our confidence, our understanding of “real life” situations and our teamwork skills. I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the dedication and effort and support to all the professionals who lectured us and especially to Jo. Months after the end of the course, she keeps updating us with the latest internship and job opportunities and giving us her support for the interviews.

Thanks again Jo, the quality of the course and your guidance throughout have really exceeded my expectations and I am really satisfied with my choice! I wish you all the luck for the future”!

Saleha Pinhorn, Founder & Director, Crimson Events Management Ltd, graduate Jan 2011

“A big thank you to Jo, Chris & Caroline and all the lecturers who have shared their knowledge of the Event Industry with us. I have thoroughly enjoyed the course & now it is

finished I am missing the buzz of the project and my team! I have learnt a lot and I am looking at the future with great confidence”.

Melanie Pracht, Masters in Marketing student, graduate Jan 2011

“At the time I joined this course I was unhappy with my career and looking for something new. I have always been interested in event management and had worked in the event industry on a few projects and done an internship but kept being stuck in the tourism industry. Terbell’s part-time Event Management course provided me with the right challenge at that time and gave me confidence to further my career in event management.

I really enjoyed the course and the broad range of interesting subjects we covered. It has been a challenging but very rewarding time. I would like to thank all the lecturers for their support, especially Caroline and Jo. I think that this course is extremely valuable and provides a realistic outlook of the event business through presentations, projects and great lecturers from different backgrounds. I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested in event management and looking for a great experience”.

Ben Cassidy, Event Manager, FSC – graduate Dec 2010

“Many thanks for putting together such an enjoyable and educational course. As you know, I work as an events organiser, and the content of the course has helped immensely in my day to day work. Every module was unique, insightful, and above all, presented in a way which was easy to follow, interactive, and fun!

I've already used many of the 'tricks of the trade' offered since starting the course, and feel I'm able to get so much more from my work. Please pass on my thanks to a great team”.

James Dean, DJ & Night Club Promoter – graduate June 2010

“On my first day I very quickly realised how lucky I’d been in selecting the right Event Management course. It was very apparent that Adam Proto along with Jo and Caroline were the very best in the industry and I immediately knew I was going to learn a lot from these people.

I’ll admit I was never the cleverest person at school but Adam & Jo were always there to reassure me that the majority of the course was practical common sense. Yes there were parts I needed to look at more than once, but at no point did I feel that it wasn’t achievable.

I live in Derby, so I had to drive to London several times a week to do the course, a lot of people thought I was mad!! However, I used to get very excited about going down to learn about subjects that were so very interesting to me and that I feel extremely passionate about. I already work in events but I’m self-taught, so to be able to learn how the professionals did things was extremely rewarding for me.

Every lecture was educational and put forward in an exciting and very easy to remember format. I met so many fantastic people on the course, not only the teachers but the students, most of with which I still keep in contact. I went on to complete the course and gain a Pass with Distinction, (verrrrry Happpppy Jimmy!!!!) I now have a lot of opportunities to further my career in events on a professional level. I can’t wait to get cracking!

I simply can’t recommend this course enough and this may sound a little wet! But this course has actually changed my life…. And for that reason I am eternally grateful to Terbell. Please feel free to email me [email protected] if you would like more insight into this course. You won’t be disappointed”!
