• employing university resources (human and material) in social and economic development

The new approach in research into higher education emphasizes the non-economic value of college/university experience
The SYLFF program at the Jagiellonian University (launched in 1987) promotes more the creation of the community of engaged people than the cohort of skilled workers

New understanding of entrepreneurship and innovation emphasizes the role of soft skills
• The community of engaged people:• network society;
• better understanding of the challenges and needs of modern world;
• diversity.
• The college experience (with long tradition in the USA) still needs some attention in Europe
