CT2004 will bring together farmers, equipment companies, researchers,ag support industries, and other public agencies to learn about innovativeadvances that are being made throughout the irrigated western US interms of reduced tillage agricultural production systems.

The theme of CT2004 is “Conservation Tillage --Linking Economicswith Air, Water and Soil Quality” One of the most attractive aspects ofconservation tillage systems is the multifaceted and varied ways inwhich they address and integrate both economic and environmentalconservation objectives of successful and sustainable farms. Speakersand presenters at CT2004 will provide information related to this themedrawing on research as well as practical experiences from California’sCentral Valley, Arizona and Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

The conference program for CT2004 provides two days of nonstoppresentations demonstrations and tour options for participants. Youare heartily encouraged to review the entire array of program offeringsand to decide which of those activities you are most interested.

Arrive early to get the full benefit of CT information offered and planahead: some presentations/activities will occur only once. Lunch willbe provided on both days with the one-time $10 registration fee plusa comprehensive CT2004 Proceedings document is included in the fee.

We hope you will enjoy and greatly benefit from CT2004!

During the last few years, farmers, researchers, equipmentsuppliers and crop management advisors have made tremendousprogress in designing and refining a wide range of conservation,or reduced till ag production systems in the western US. Thesenew systems reduce production costs, create less air and waterpollution and improve soil quality. They also present “learningcurve” challenges of various sorts to producers and are still verymuch in their infancy. CT2004 will provide a condensed opportunityto learn from pioneering farmers, manufacturers, and researcherswho are leading the way in terms of CT system development.

By attending CT2004, you will learn about:

• the wide range of CT systems beingdeveloped throughout the western US

• why farmers are trying CT systems

• how CT systems reduce air and waterpollution

• what equipment is being used in CTsystems

• how corn, cotton, tomatoes, beans andsmall grains are being produced with lesstillage

• how CT saves money

• how CT practices contribute toconservation management plan air qualitycompliance requirements

The First Annual Western States Conservation Tillage Conference

has been developed with a wide and diverse audience in mind.

CT2004’s general theme of “Conservation Tillage - Linking

Economics with Air, Water and Soil Quality” will be particularly

relevant to the following people:

While there is tremendous diversity throughout the irrigated US

in terms of crops produced, soil types and local resource quality

challenges, we expect that many of the principles and innovations

presented in the CT2004 will have relevance for production

systems throughout the region.

• farmers

• ag support industries

• NRCS conservationists

• crop management advisors

• pest control advisors

• air, water and soil resource agencies

• researchers

• ag extension educators

• ag and natural resource students
