1 Announcements (Balaji) Announcements: • We will hire a new graduate advisor. We are waiting to approve
the posting for this position. Anne from Aerospace and Susan will help out in the interim. The graduate committee will work on the applications.
• The faculty search posting is ready. It will be posted soon. Accomplishments: • Yunping Xi and Mija Hubler received a $1.3M DOE grant. • John Crimaldi was awarded a $6.4M NSF grant as PI. He
discussed the Ideas Lab funding mechanism at NSF. 2 Professional Master’s
Program (Dick Kuchenrither)
• The professional masters program document was sent out to everyone.
• The goal is to have the certificate expanded to a full program. • It would be offered as a master in engineering. • See the attached slides

• The White House Neuroscience Initiative is being compared to the Human Genome Project
• New area for the College of Engineering, new collaborations
• CU College of Engineering is leading a collaboration of PI’s from top medical schools in a Neuroscience
• Future interactions with existing College research (e.g., indoor/outdoor air quality, autonomous vehicles, etc.)
• Development of efficient algorithms for odor source localization
• Advances in understanding of brain function

Leadership in the Water Profession (Water Engineering & Management)
Key Points of PMP LWP
• Fall 2012 implementation in 2 phases • Success after 2 years Yr1/Yr2
– Distance Learning students 14/29 – Campus students (20% outside of Dept. & College) 20/33 – Positive cash flow
Phase 2 PMP LWP
• Master of Engineering – Leadership in the Water Profession
• Not a new master’s degree, sub-plan of College of Engineering
• The revenue and program management is housed in Civil Engineering and CE Master’s environmental program
Key Points of PMP LWP (cont.)
• Master’s Academic Program – 4 Environmental Engr. Core Courses – 3 LWP Core Courses - Fall, Spring, Summer – 2 Civil Electives – Master’s report
• Certificate Academic Program – 3 LWP Core courses- Fall, Spring, Summer – Elective in broad perspective of Civil/SPA courses
Key Points of PMP LWP (cont.)
• The PMP is supporting the university’s desire to increase global participation in CU supporting distance learning education.
• The PMP will bring in new students, especially those from the water professions working in utilities, consulting firms and regulators.
• Looking ahead, MS offered to distance education students
• The PMP will enable more networking of faculty and students with the water industry
