Elementary
100 Ways to Raise a Reader (PK-5th) (107) For too many kids in this country, reading is a negative word. This hands-on workshop
shows how families can make some small adjustments to their normal daily routines that will make reading an enjoyable and natural habit for anyone. (Find more information by
searching the hashtag #CCSDReads on social media!)
100 Ways to Raise a Writer (PK-1st) (122a) Establishing good writing habits and making the act of writing fun - and not a chore— will
help your children tremendously on their path to college or career. This hands-on workshop presents some easy ideas to excite your kids about writing on a regular basis.
Creating a Home Library (PK-5th) (108) Establishing and updating a home library with a variety of reading materials sets your child up for future success. Families will spend time creating a personalized book to add to or start their own home library. Having books of his/her own in a special place boosts the
chance that your child will want to read even more.
Family Storyteller for Preschoolers (407) The Family Storyteller for Preschoolers is a 6-week family literacy program aimed at
encouraging and training parents to play a vital role in the early literacy development of their children. The program’s reading and language activities are designed for families with
preschoolers and beginning readers. Presented by: UNCE
Growth Mindset: Stretch Your Thinking (K-5) (109c) “I’m not good at math! I can’t read that!” Does your child avoid challenges or get
discouraged at the first obstacle they encounter? Understanding fixed and growth mindsets will help families guide a child’s beliefs about their ability and their desire to
persevere when things get tough in all areas of life.
How is My Child Reading? (PK-8) (523) Families’ involvement in their children’s education stands out as one of the
greatest predictors of growth and well-being for students with disabilities. This workshop provides the building blocks of learning so families can identify the vocabulary used and ask questions to gain a better understanding on how their children are doing in school. When families learn the terms, the conversation between school staff and parents
is focused on student achievement. Presented by: Nevada PEP
Just Write! Daily Writing for 2nd-5th (122b) A writer’s notebook gives children a safe place to express thoughts, brainstorm new
ideas, rescue past memories, and play with words without fear or judgement. During this hands-on workshop, we will think, write, and share tips to help your family start and
establish routines of life-long writers.
Language Development at Home & at School (PK-12) (318) This session will provide parents and caregivers an understanding of how students are
identified as an English Language Learner based on their language development levels. They will learn the difference between social and academic language and will engage in
