The University of Hyderabad, a premier institution

of postgraduate teaching and research in thecountry, as established by an Act of Parliament(Act No. 39 of 1974) on October 2, 1974, as aCentral University, wholly financed by the UniversityGrants Commission. It has emerged as one of thebest center’s for postgraduate education andresearch in India in a variety of areas encompassingbasic and applied sciences, social sciences,humanities and fine arts.

The School of Computer and Information Sciencesoffers five different programmes of study leading todegrees in Ph.D. in Computer Science, five yearIntegrated M.Tech. in Computer Science, M.Tech.(Computer science), M.Tech. The IDRBT Director

Reserve Bank of India established IDRBT in the

year 1996 for promoting development andresearch in the area of Banking Technology. Aspart of building the HR skills to meet the researchand development activities, IDRBT, incollaboration with University of Hyderabad, hasbeen offering M Tech (IT) programme with focuson Banking Technology.

The syllabus of the two‐year post‐graduateprogramme includes important topics likeinformation security, cryptography, databasemanagement and networks in addition to bankingtechnology and quantitative techniques forfinance. The wide range of topics give studentsthe necessary skills in information technology andits applications.

As part of the programme, students take up arigorous one year project work under theguidance of faculty of IDRBT at the state‐of‐theart labs specializing in the areas like analytics,mobile security, and information assurance. Theyalso get exposed to infrastructure of importanceto nation’s financial systems such as INFINET,SFMS, and CA.

The blend of theory and practice prepares thestudents to work in any area quite well. This hasbeen proved by the good track record ofplacement and substantiated by subsequentfeedback from industry.The prospective employers may exploit theopportunity and engage the well trained students.

School of Computer and Information Sciences (SCIS),

Indira Gandhi Memorial Library: The university library has a richcollection of books for our students. It also provides Internet BrowsingArea, Laptop Zone and Wi-Fi facilities. The library havesubscription for a wide variety of journals.

As one of the India’s promised top‐edged university itnot only maintains a jealous top position in India, ittoo maintains of India’s two great titles with its 2300acres green campus: 2nd “largest University” and 2nd in“University having Environment friendly and greencampus”. The campus is characterized by aestheticallypleasing buildings which have inspired generations ofstudents to strive for excellence. The campus is a mini

township in itself with all the modern amenities. Theentire campus is connected by a state‐of‐the artnetwork and have a specially designed Super‐Computer for research. About IDRBT

Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT)

IDRBT was established by the Reserve Bank of India in March 1996, as an autonomous body. The Institute pioneers the modernization process by introducing Information Technology to the Indian Banking and Financial Sector. IDRBT has taken the lead – from anticipating the technology requirements, developing solutions to creating and customizing IT and IT infrastructure for the benefit of the Indian Banking and Financial Sector. 

• The IDRBT has created the nationwide communication backbone for the Indian banking industry – the INdian FInancialNETwork (INFINET) 

• IDRBT is also a Certifying Authority (CA) under the IT Act 2000

• the Institute launched the framework of Structured Financial Messaging System (SFMS)

• All National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) messages are routed through a hub hosted by IDRBT

• IDRBT has also set up Indian Banking Technology Consortium (IBTC) to guide banks on the latest in financial technology.

• It has highly specialized Executive Development Programmes that are conducted for banking professionals exposing them to state‐of‐the‐art developments in Information Technology.

M.TECH CSThe M.Tech (Computer Science) programmeis designed to provide a strong foundationin the basic concepts of computer sciencebalancing the demands of the rapidlychanging needs of the current IT industry .Admission to the M.Tech (CS) programmeis purely on the basis of performance in theGraduate Aptitude Test in Engineering(GATE).

The course structure is as followsM.Tech (CS) is having 3 different streams aspart of course curriculum, which areSystems, Security & High PerformanceComputing. These different streams coverbasic subjects related to that stream andgiving a chance to the students to exploreand specialize further in their specific fieldof interest.The core courses, mandatory to all thestudents provide a solid foundation in thefield.The electives, reflecting the state‐of‐the‐art, allow different students to pursue theirown areas of interest. The electives arecarefully chosen to equip students withsufficient knowledge and to prepare themto take on challenges of the IT field. The University in collaboration with theInstitute for Development and Researchin Banking Technology (IDRBT, aninstitution established by RBI) offers aunique M. Tech in InformationTechnology Programme(with Specialization

in Banking Technology and InformationSecurity). The multi‐disciplinaryprogramme merges the emergingTechnologies in the area of InformationTechnology with domain expertise ofBanking and Financial Services.

The curriculum consists of a perfect mixof Computer Science, Banking Technologyand Information Security coursesessential for Banking Technology . Theprogramme was referred to by Dr. Y .V.Reddy (former Governor, RBI), as thefirst‐of‐its‐kind in India.
