The University of Melbourne Extension Program (UMEP) allows you to study a university subject area during Year 12 and gain valuable academic skills while getting a head start on your future studies. EXPERIENCE UNIVERSITY LIFE The Extension Program offers a real university experience. Most classes are held at our Parkville campus, where you will study alongside first-year university students. You will have access to the Library network and receive a University of Melbourne student card and email account. You can use teaching, learning and study spaces on campus, and benefit from a range of online resources through the Student Portal. Extension Program students are welcome to join any of the Student Union’s 200-plus clubs and societies. EARN UNIVERSITY CREDIT If you enrol in a University of Melbourne undergraduate degree aſter finishing Year 12, you could receive credit for the subjects you completed as part of your Extension Program studies (without any university tuition fees). You could choose to accelerate through your degree, enjoy a lighter study load in first year or take additional subjects to open up more study pathways and career options. EARN AN ATAR CONTRIBUTION Your Extension Program studies can contribute to your ATAR as a fiſth or sixth VCE subject. Depending on your mark, three to five points will be added to your ATAR aggregate (the score used to calculate your final ATAR). The table below outlines the points you will receive and the equivalent VCE study score value. Average mark for UMEP subjects ATAR aggregate contribution Equivalent VCE study score 90 or more 5.0 points 50 80–89 4.5 points 45 70–79 4.0 points 40 60–69 3.5 points 35 50–59 3.0 points 30 International Baccalaureate (IB) students are not eligible for an ATAR increment. However, they are eligible for all other program benefits. MAXIMISE YOUR YEAR 12 SUCCESS Extension Program students oſten report that the program helped them to become more confident in their academic abilities. Completing first-year undergraduate subjects can improve your study skills overall, and may help you achieve stronger results in your VCE or IB studies. THE EXTENSION PROGRAM IS FREE The University of Melbourne does not charge fees for participation in the Extension Program. All subject fees, on-campus teaching costs, student services, events and activities are provided free of charge. Please note that some off-campus School Centres set fees to cover costs including printing, teaching and learning resources, venue hire and staff costs. Not all School Centres charge fees, but the fee information for those that do is detailed on the Extension Program website. Academic achievement awards are also presented to the highest-achieving Extension Program student in each subject areaQ. M E E T O T H E R A S P I R AT I O N A L S T U D E N T S L I K E Y O UExtension Program students are invited to a range of free academic, social and leadership events on campus throughout the year, including a Welcome Day in late January and free VCE revision lectures led by top teachers and past exam assessors.

These events offer participants the opportunity to meet high-achieving peers, learn more about the University and develop their academic skills and

leadership potential. All students who successfully complete the Extension Program will be invited to a graduation event in mid-December to receive a completion certificate and official transcript, and to have the opportunity to celebrate their success with family and fellow students.

A P P L I C AT I O NOnline applications for 2019 will open on Monday 10 September and close at 11.59pm on Tuesday 18 December 2018. Students will be informed of their application outcome in mid-January 2019.

S E L E C T I O NThe Extension Program is designed for high-achieving students who are looking for an academic challenge. If you have impressive Year 11 results, hold a strong interest in your preferred Extension Program subject area and have the time management skills to complete tertiary subjects in addition to Year 12 studies, this program could be for you.

Applicants should check the prerequisite requirements before submitting an application and also seek permission from their school and a parent or guardian.
