The differences between the four submission types are as follows:

1. No Submission: This type is used when you are not collecting any content from students. This can be used to mark students' participation or in-class presentations, or to give extra credits.

Figure 5 Online Submission Options

- Text Entry: Allows students to enter content directly into a text box.

- Website URL: Allows students to upload a URL to a blog, video, etc.

- Media Recording: Allows students to upload audio or video recordings, or record new media to submit.

- File Uploads: Allows students to upload files from their computer. Selecting this option will present you with the option to restrict the file types that can be submitted.

- NOTE: Although you can select more than one of the "Online" submission options, students can only use one of available methods. For example, they cannot submit both a URL and a pdf simultaneously.

3. On Paper: This type is used when students are required to deliver their assignment to the instructor on paper. Submissions are evaluated and grades are entered manually in the Gradebook.

NOTE: There's no functional difference between "No Submission" and "On Paper" assignments. The two types are there to let students know they are turning in an assignment on paper or not turning anything at all.

4. External Tool: This type is used when students are required to submit their assignments through a tool that is not integrated into Quercus. Selecting this type will show a field where you can enter the URL of this external tool.

You can also choose to load the tool in a new tab.
