Working together to prepare the 2018 UWill Discover! Conference, the organizing committee has a shared sense of excitement! Students from a vast array of programs across the University of Windsor will highlight discovery and achievement in research, scholarship, and creative activities throughout the two-day event open to the broader Windsor Essex community. This year’s conference grew remarkably to include over 100 student submissions with over 140 authors. Students will highlight discovery and achievement through a variety of paper presentations, poster presentations, art installations, performances, and film productions. We are excited that you are here throughout the event to recognize their hard work and share this exciting opportunity with them. This year’s conference seeks to refocus on “discovery” in a broad sense, spanning traditional and non-traditional research and creative fields. Throughout the conference and going forward, we hope to encourage students to connect with fellow researchers, scholars, entrepreneurs, and the broader community to address real-world challenges. UWill Discover is a collaborative effort of many University of Windsor offices: the Office of the Provost; the Office of Research and Innovation; the EPICentre; the Leddy Library; the Centre for Teaching and Learning; the Public Affairs and Communications; and the Office of Corporations, Foundations & Grants, University Campaign. Thank you to the many sponsors, especially EPICentre (official sponsor of the Awards Reception and Closing Ceremony), the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (official sponsor of keynote speaker Nino Ricci), the Faculty of Science (official sponsor of keynote speaker Debbie Landers), and Nelson Publishing Canada (official sponsor of breakfast both days). This year we are grateful for sponsors from the local community: Nelson Publishing Canada and Pearson Publishing Canada. Thank you to Green Bean Coffee for donating coffee during morning refreshment breaks. This conference is truly a team effort and requires support from the University of Windsor and community partners. The UWill Discover conference aims to develop student curiosity for research, scholarship, and creative activity across all disciplines by providing presentation, communication, and networking opportunities to all students. We offer our students the opportunity to express their excitement about what they have discovered, and we are grateful for the broad support we have enjoyed from the University and beyond. We welcome your participation in the conference, and we hope you will share your experience with us, through the response survey available on the conference website (https://scholar.uwindsor.ca/uwilldiscover/2018/). Please let us know what discovery means to you.
