Introductory Thoughts

The home that is not built on God’s foundation is bound to fail

God’s blueprint for the home will be successful because:

He established itHe planned it

He governs it

God had specific purposes in mind when He designed the home

Companionship

God created man with a certain desire for companionship

Genesis 2:18-20 – Ecclesiastes 4:9-11

God fulfilled this need by creating woman to be his help meet

Genesis 2:21-24Made differently, yet made to become one flesh

through marriage – Matthew 19:5

Companionship

Part of that companionship is completed with the love they share for each other

Ephesians 5:25 – Titus 2:3-4

A second part of that companionship is the willingness of both to fulfill their roles in the relationship

Procreation

God created all things to produce after its own kind and its own seed

Genesis 1:20-25

God created the first man and woman in a miraculous way

Man is now expected to replenish the earth through natural means

To Avoid Fornication

God intended for the physical relationship to be between a man and a woman in the bond of marriage

Genesis 2:24

Hebrews 13:4 confirms that this bond is honorable

Paul wrote to the Corinthians encouraging them to marry to avoid fornication

1 Corinthians 7:2-5

Marriage is considered sacred in God’s sight

To Provide a Godly Environment

Benefiting both husband and wife

1 Peter 3:7

God is to be supreme in the marriage

Matthew 6:33 – Luke 14:26

Men are to be the head of the house, both in spiritual and physical matters

Abraham – Genesis 18:19Joshua – Joshua 24:15When we as parents set the example our children will

be much more likely to do the same – Deuteronomy 6:1-9

To Provide a Godly Environment

Those who fail to provide spiritually are failing God and their family

1 Timothy 5:8

Parents have a grave responsibility to provide a Godly environment

Proverbs 22:6

Timothy’s faith was a direct result of a Godly environment

2 Timothy 1:5 – 2 Timothy 3:15

Concluding Thoughts

Our marriages and home must be patterned after God’s plan if we expect them to be successful

God’s word is very clear on what He expects from us
