welcomeby Youth Pastor Greg

We would like to thank you for taking the time to read

through our very first edition of 'Unlocked' newsletter.

It is our goal that this quarterly newsletter would be a

valuable tool not just for our youth department, but

indeed the entire church body. We aim to ensure this

newsletter achieves three key objectives:

1) To help facilitate our young people

in staying connected;

2) To keep our parents informed as to what their

children will be involved in; and

3) To increase the Youth Departments' visibility in the

sight of the greater church community.

Modern society throws many challenges upon our

young people and all they rely on the prayers,

support and love of everybody that calls the

Pentecostals of Sydney their home church.

As you will see, this department is vibrant, busy

and engaging. It is our mission to empower every

young person to become all that God has called

them to be. Our program is varied, consisting of

youth services, age and gender specific teaching,

games and recreation as well as homeless

outreach.

We would love to formally extend an invitation to

any young person between the ages of 12-30 to

get connected by contacting myself. Or if you are

a parent and would like to see your child grow in

the things of God and develop life long friendships,

we would strongly urge you to get your child

connected.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to read

through 'Unlocked', we know you will be blessed!

Blessings,

Greg Willmott

James 1:27"Religion that God our Father acceptsas pure and faultless is this: to look afterorphans and widows in their distressand to keep oneself from being

polluted by the world."Our Quarterly theme is "Called to Serve".This scripture describes service to

people in need as PURE RELIGION. Godhas given us the capacity to reach outand touch the lives of those who are inneed of a message of hope. KingdomElevated Youth (Key) are determined tocreate a culture to serve those bothinside and outside the four walls of

church to glorify God.

My walk with God can be described as one continuous roller coasterride that seems to have more downs than ups.I prayed that God would give me the strength to bring what I hadlearned and absorbed from various Life Studies and Sunday servicesinto my workplace, Rugby league!Through constant prayer, this year has been a turning point.A group of players and I have created a connect group where wediscuss the Bible’s various teachings, we share our weaknesses and lifteach other up in prayer. This connect group has enabled a bond that goes beyond ourmeetings.God has truly done amazing wonders in my life that I never thoughtwould happen, especially in the sporting arena! He showed me the truth in the scripture Matthew 19:26“With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible”.

Look for the in theupcoming calendars!

So some of you may not know this, but I am a major control freak! And yes,as messy as my room is and as much as I am always running late, I havenever let things get too far out of my own control. My life has always beenplanned and thought out in the way I had always anticipated it would, soyou could safely say that nothing too traumatic had ever touched me inmy life... up until NOW!Not too long ago I experienced my first real "Out of Control" situation. There was absolutely nothing I could do to bring things back into control,in fact there was nothing anyone could do. It was the worst pain I had everfelt, but also the most anger and frustration because for once I felt what itwas like to not have control over an area of my life. Then all of a sudden the amount of faith and trust I had for God washighlighted in my life and it was the first time I had to step back and trulyknow and understand what it meant to let go and let God take 100%control. It wasn't easy for me, and Im still struggling today but little did Iknowthat that was just the beginning. One month later Lani and I purchased ahouse. Then a huge amount of money had to be paid upfront, but it wassupposed to be paid in 11 months! So just like that, "Out of Control"situation TWO had arrived but this time it was a little different. The frustration and anger wasn't there for too long because I knew the onlything I had to do was let go and let God! Sure enough, God took controland He made a way! I know that "letting God take control" overcircumstances in your life sounds pretty simple and easy when things inlife aren't tough, but when "Life" happens and you feel everything is out ofcontrol and you can't handle it, trust me when I say this, God wants to takecare of it for you! He doesn't want to see you struggle (and why putourselves through that?)Our God loves us too much and He wants us to give it over to Him. There isno hurt that God can't heal and there is nothing in your life that God can'trestore. If only we would just step back and let God do it! Our job is to keeppraying, and just watch what He will do for you in your life! Proverbs 3:5-6,Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on yourown understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will makestraight your paths.-1 Peter 5:7, Cast all your cares upon him; for he careth for you.

I’ll start by asking you a question: Do you want to go deeper in your relationship with God? Deeper in your walkwith Him and deeper into your Christian faith? If so, how deep are you willing to go and are you prepared to do

what it takes? This world we l live in is full of very shallow relationships, worldly relationshipsdon’t last very long because of this.

The thing is: your relationship with God, your entire Christian walk is as deep as you want it to be. How close doyou want to get to God? Are you willing to put the time in? Like every other relationship, a

Christian’s relationship with God takes work and effort on your part. If you’re not willing to make the effort, then you’re satisfied with a shallow relationship, one

that is more provider and receiver than father and child. When you’re in a relationship – you don’t just see what you can get out of it and give nothing back, if you do, the

relationship doesn’t last long and there’s no love, or if there is, it’s selfish love.Selfish love is: what can I get from you at your expense. Unselfish love is: what can I give you at my expense.Going ‘Deeper’ with God, to me, means knowing the difference between religion and relationship. It basicallyboils down to your mentality. Religion’ is: What can I get away with and still be justified? How can I just do thebare minimum and just scrape by, how can I remain being strongly influenced by the world and still be ok withGod, or, rather, the church family? It’s placing more stock in the ceremonial, the ‘going through the motions’ andthe loopholes in particular, rather than the heart. Relationship’ is simply this: ‘What makes Him happy?’ If that is ourfocus, everything else falls into place. All the guidelines given in the Bible, all of God’s mandates and instructionswere not given for His benefit, but for ours. He didn’t say all of it just for His health and/or just to have us ignore itand/or for us to pick and choose what we like and what we don’t. There’s a reason that the scripture: ‘If you loveme, keep my commandments’ (John 14:15) exists. Yes He loves us regardless, but this is about going deeper. When you’re in a relationship with someone, you want to do what makes them happy, why? Because you lovethem. When you love someone, it’s not a chore – it makes you happy to make them happy. This is one of thereasons why we sisters don’t cut our hair or wear makeup or jewellery and why we wear modest clothing,

especially out of respect for the house of the Lord, because it makes Him happy. It is how we honour Him anddedicate ourselves to Him and also it is because He commanded us to do so.

The power of the uncut hair, for example, comes because of obedience to His Word – because it makes Himhappy and He honours that, not because there’s anything about the hair itself. The power of baptism is because

of obedience to His word, not because there’s anything about the water that’s used. One last thing: when you’re in a relationship with someone, they’re not going to like you flirting with

someone else. The same way when we’re in a relationship with God and want to go deeper, He’s not going tolike us flirting with the world, and the deeper we go, the less inclined we will be to the worldly

things that so easily distract us. So to go deeper, it’s the same formulae as it ever was, after salvation: pray, read the word, fast – consistently

attend church, attend prayer meetings, worship the Lord, above all pray and listen! Like every other relationship,the more you get to know God; the more time you spend with Him, the closer you’ll get to Him;

the ‘Deeper’ you’ll go.

God bless you, Sis. Christina Magdas
