The Tenterfi eld Food and Wine Festival is held over the fi st week-end in November.
Activities commence on Friday evening and you can partici-pate in one of the events running in conjunction with the festival or do your own thing at any of the fi ne eateries around town.
Saturday is your opportunity to be tantalized by the Tastes of Tenterfi eld when sampling the nine wineries and eight restaurants, a fabulous opportunity to immerse yourself in the vast array of fl a-vours that come from the birthplace of our nation. Saturday night there are several functions or use the day to fi nd your favourite restaurant and enjoy what their full menu has on offer by night.
Why not have breakfast on Sunday while watching the “Wear-able Art” fashion parade and then head off to the Show and Shine Car Show, a matinee session of the play or visit your fa-vourite vineyard before the trip home! You can check it out at www.tenterfi eldfoodandwine.org.au. The town of Tenterfi eld has been engraved forever in our national psyche as the home of the
Tenterfi eld saddler in Peter Allen’s wonderful song. Tenterfi eld is a great place to immerse yourself in Australian history, culture, landscape and literature.
There is still a saddle shop in town, and many historical build-ings, but there’s so much more to discover about Tenterfi eld and its history.
Tenterfi eld is surrounded by the mountains of the Bald Rock National Park, a popular place for sightseeing, bushwalking and climbing Bald Rock itself, the largest granite rock in Australia.
Vineyards are the latest industry to come to Tenterfi eld, with cellar door tastings, vineyard tours and restaurants to explore.
Other must-see attractions include the local history collec-tion at the Centenary Cottage Museum, with its memorial to Harry Chauvel who served with the Light Horse Regiment in the Boer War, and the Railway Museum.
In April every year, timed to coincide with the autumn back-drop, Tenterfi eld hosts ‘Oracles of the Bush,’ a four day celebra-tion of Australian bush culture through verse, music and theatre.After a day exploring the area and fascinating shops like Winter and Garnetta, there are great motels like the Henry Parkes Best
Western to rest in and you can try some local hospitality at the local Tenterfi eld Bowling Club and Motor Inn.
A visit to Tenterfi eld will enrich the visitor’s sense of history and appreciation of its natural bush surrounds.
The coastal town of Evans Head is well-known for its great
fi shing, unspoilt beaches and the estuary is perfect for ca-
noeing and boating.
The Evans River estuary provides safe shallow, sandy
beaches for children to swim and pleasant shady picnic
spots to enjoy the local specialty of fi sh and chips by the
river.
For serious nature lovers there is bird watching and
bushwalking in the nearby Bundjalung and Broadwater Na-
tional Parks. The walks take in littoral rainforest, heath land
vegetation and unspoilt beaches.
The Goanna Headland lookout is a great place to watch
the annual migration of humpback whales and is a mythical
site of great importance to the Bundjalung people, who have
occupied the area for thousands of years.
The surf break below the headland is a favourite for the
serious surfer.
Visit the unique Paperbark Gallery and after a day of holi-
day making you can enjoy some local hospitality at the Evans
Head Bowling Club. The Pacifi c Motor Inn is a great place
to stay at Evans. There is also the nearby Woodburn Motel
while you check out the area.
The main beach (north of the breakwater) is patrolled by
lifesavers in the holiday seasons and on weekends.
Visitors to Evans head must try the fresh local prawns
