Thank you Preston A League of His Own Last Thursday we were privileged to be visited by former NRL star Preston Campbell who spoke to us about his career, gave our students some valuable life advice, played some didgeridoo, raced our students in a 50 metre dash, signed autographs and generally basked in adulation! Preston had a stellar career as a Rugby League player winning a Premiership in 2003 and a Dally M Player of the Year in 2001. He has also done great community work via the Preston Campbell Foundation. Canteen – Helpers Needed! We would like to thank Mrs Robyn Kuhr who has now tak- en on the role of School Canteen Coordinator. If anyone is available to volunteer any time between 8:30am - 1:30pm on a Wednesday or Friday you can contact Robyn directly on 0415 550 223 or contact the School Office. We also would like to thank Ms Samara Appo for her work this year in this role, much appreciated. Thank you P&C A huge thank you to our P&C and helpers for their efforts with the Cooly Rocks Oncar parking fundraiser which added a very significant $5,450 to the P&C coffers. Special mention must go to Jim Dwyer for his hard work and expertise in providing the logistical support to this operation. At todays P&C Meeting, funding was approved for floodlighting of the school oval area for evening events and a new gazebo for sports events. The P&C have also recently funded new chair and table settings, portable soccer goals and shirts for our North Coast dancers. Our staff and students greatly appreciate this support. A League of His Own

Last Thursday we were privileged to be visited by former NRL star Preston Campbell who spoke to us about his career, gave our students some valuable life advice, played some didgeridoo, raced our students in a 50 metre dash, signed autographs and generally basked in adulation! Preston had a stellar career as a Rugby League player winning a Premiership in 2003 and a Dally M Player of the Year in 2001. He has also done great community work via the Preston Campbell Foundation.

At todays P&C Meeting, funding was approved for floodlighting of the school oval area for evening events and a new gazebo for sports events. Netball Gala Day On Friday 8th June our school netball team attended the Tweed Netball Gala Day. The girls showed great sportsmanship, enthusiasm for learning the game and improved so much over the course of the day. In their first game of the day they defeated Bogangar PS taking them through to Round 3 of the knockout competition. This is an achievement that we haven't seen at Tweed Heads PS for a few years. Unfortunately they were then knocked out by a more experienced Terranora team.

Our netball team: Alyssa, Havannah, Hayleah, Brooke-Lyn, Mannat, Rebecca, Perle, Nicole, Jorja and Skyla.

Thank you to Miss Alice Robinson for helping to coach the team and to our great parents who helped out on the day.

Mrs Jocelyn Fraser - Netball Coach

Reports

Our teachers have been busily working on Reports. Currently we are ahead of schedule and should have these out to parents by early next week.

Parent/Teacher Meetings

These will be held in Week 10 of Term 2. Class teachers are coordinating these. I would encourage all parents to take the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher/s and discuss their progress.

Safe students #1

In recent weeks our students have completed the Youth Protection Education Program, delivered by our teachers in collaboration with trained presenters from the YWCA of NSW. The outcomes of this program include an increased awareness of safe and respectful relationships and an understanding of skills in responding to unsafe situations. We would like to thank the YWCA for their support of this very important program.

Safe Students #2

Last week we were made aware of an attempted abduction of a student in the Tweed South area. Without wishing to cause alarm it could be timely for to parents to reinforce safety and protective behaviours with their children eg “Stranger Danger”. Teachers will also discuss this with students in class.

Ethics

Parents who are interested in learning more about Ethics content delivered in Primary schools are encouraged to sign up for the PrimaryEthics@Home newsletters. Parents and carers can sign up for the next edition at primaryethics.com.au/parents

Dancing with the Stars

Bravo to our dancers who performed with distinction at the North Coast Dance Festival at the Gold Coast Arts Centre last Wednesday night. They certainly put on a great show. The standard of the event across the board was excellent and a credit to everyone involved.

Thanks must also go to Mrs Cutler, Miss Buchanan and our choreographer, Holly Mackie, for their work in preparation and on the day.

These classes follow a pathway that enables students to interact with their peers at a higher level than can normally be provided within a regular classroom or school.

How do I apply? A formal Student Registration Form must be submitted in order for your child to be considered for our Academic Talent Pathway class.

Test has changed days and will be held on Monday 17th September 2018 commencing at 4.00pm.

For more information please contact the ATP Coordinators at the TRHS on 07 5524 3007.
