been assisting staff at Singleton and upskilling us all in specific areas of behaviour management. If you would like any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Early Release Slips Please remember if you need to collect your child early from school for any reason you need to go to the front office and sign them out. This is to ensure the safety of your child, in an emergency situation we need to know exactly who is and is not at school for the day. Believe it or not… our community cares and will often call the school to let us know a student in school uniform was seen here or there during the day!

Foodbank Friday This Friday is Foodbank Friday for Blue Block. This initiative started 5 years ago, however, it seems to have diminished over the past year. Each student in different blocks are asked to donate one tin or jar of non-perishable food to be able to be given to a family in need. In 2018 Foodbank prepared food hampers for approximately 200 families. Let’s see if we can kick start the collection again for the end of this term. Next term we are going to be changing the collection day and do a one off day in the lead up to the festive season – ‘Foodbank Drive Monday’ on Monday, 2nd December. Clean your cupboards out on Sunday and donate (in date) goods you have not used. Donations go to The Bridge Builders Food Service & The Lions Club.

Book Week – “Reading Is My Secret Power!” Our annual Book Week parade was a huge success, with students and

staff dressed as a variety of characters from different books.

Well done to everyone who participated and to all of our winners!

Each day through Book Week we also had different staff reading some

of their favourite books to students in the library at lunch time.

Thank you to all those who were involved and to the lovely listeners!

Kindy Open Day This Saturday from 9:00am to 11:00am our Kindy Classrooms in Rainbow Block will be open for those students who are enrolled and starting Kindy with us in 2020. If you have a younger child or know of a friend living in our Singleton PS Zone that has not enrolled yet, please contact the school office and collect an enrolment package. With strong numbers already for next year we will running 4 classes, which is great news.

Week 7 Waste Free Lunch Competition

Room 10 Year 4 has challenged the school to a week-long waste free lunch competition. The class with the highest class average of students participating will win an ice-cream party. Room 10 is currently studying the continents and oceans and is focusing on the problems caused by single use plastics in our oceans. Waste free lunches provide an opportunity for the community to learn about reducing our use of plastics. Please join us on Monday, 2nd of September in Week 7! Did you know the average use of a single use plastic bag is only 12 minutes!

SINGLETON PRIMARY SCHOOL

We made the Wakakirri Finals! Congratulations Team Singleton for the exceptional performance at the Perth Concert Hall on Tuesday, 6th August. We even made it into The Sound Telegraph!! After competing against 6 other schools on the evening and up against a total 20 schools over 3 nights, we made it through to the finals! There are 8 schools in the finals on Monday night.

Good luck to all of the students and staff who are heading back to the Perth Concert Hall on Monday, 2nd September to take part of this wonderful event. Stay focused, try your best and always remember to SMILE! Watch this space for our finals results.

Aboriginal Style Art

During Term 3 many classes at Singleton have looked at the historical and cultural importance of Aboriginal peoples to Australia. One of the ways we have embraced this is through our art work. Paul Papalia’s office, Oasis Drive Secret Harbour, has a display of a selection of students’ artwork from the following classes: Mrs Hansen PP Mrs Hannah Year 1/2 Mrs Sadler Year 2 Mrs Braithwaite Year 3 Mr McNear Year 4 Mrs Jones Year 5/6 Miss Coppola Year 5/6 Congratulations to all classes involved! It has been reported that many locals have stopped to have a look and are all thoroughly impressed. Go down and check it out!!

SINGLETON PRIMARY SCHOOL

Tales from the Past Singleton Primary School was extremely privileged on Thursday, 29th August to have a group of wonderful ladies visit the school. These seniors shared their experiences as children; growing up in a very different world from what our students live in. All the children were enthralled with the different technology, toys, household chores, school life and overall lifestyle of 'the past.' Thank you for the time and effort and for sharing your knowledge with this invaluable incursion.

Happy Father’s Day Rainbow Block and Room 18 hosted a special Father’s Day afternoon where they treated dads, grandfathers and even some mums to decorated donuts, barber treatments, reading books and playing footy.

Thank you to the P&C for hosting the Father’s Day stalls again this week. Many gifts were purchased for the special men in their lives.

I hope all the Dads, Grandfathers and Carers have a wonderful day with your family and friends.

Regards

Jayde Hewson Principal

School Banking Calling for Volunteers – School Banking needs your help! Our students really enjoy participating in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program and to keep this program running we need your help.

The program requires volunteer School Banking Co-ordinators to facilitate the banking and distribution of School Banking rewards. This only takes a small amount of your time one day a week, for approximately 1 ½ hours. Commonwealth Bank will provide support on how to run the program. Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they develop vital saving skills and also help our school with fundraising. Currently, School Banking day is Thursday, from approximately 8am until 8.45am, in the Library. Our volunteer Co-ordinators, Cathie and Mandy, will be unable to continue at the end of this year when their children move on to High School so new volunteers are needed. If you are interested in volunteering for this great program, come into reception to collect a form to fill in or visit School Banking on Thursday morning to speak to Cathie and Mandy for more information. Please consider offering your support to keep this program running at Singleton Primary School.
