Wow!!! Summer is here and what better time for us to have our Annual Cowtown Mopars Picnic. This year we are honored to be having it at Rick and Carol Mariano’s house and have a pool to jump in to cool off if you wish. There is plenty of parking and we are going to have Chopped Bar B Q, Pulled Pork, Hamburgers and Hot Dogs along with sodas and water. Bring sides and desserts to share along with chairs and shade if you wish. Kids and grandkids are welcome. Be sure to join us this year for a great time. This will replace our July Club Meeting and will be held on Saturday, July 18th from 1PM til ???. The address is 7901 N. Water Tower Rd, Fort Worth, TX. 76179. Hope to see all of you there.

Cowtown Mopars Performance Team has lost the points lead in the TMCCC for the first time in over 12 years. A poor turnout and performance by the club gave the lead to the GM club. This means that we need to pull it together and get our count of racers up and get our performance back up to par to keep our Championship Run going. We can’t let the GM Club keep the lead so lets all pull it together. Let’s not forget that Morris Counts is in a nursing home and would love to be visited by fellow club members. If you get a chance go by and visit him and try to cheer him up. He is having a rough time and looks forward to see any of us. See all of you on July 18th.

Your Club President

From The Veep’s Desk

Hello again autophiles. The jeep saga continues. Removed the front driveshaft on my Jeep so I could partake of dyno day when it gets here, only to find out the rear output is not outputting. So the jeep is lame for now, but I have another tranny I already rebuilt and a Dana 20, manual transfer case to put in it. So guess I will have to do that sooner than expected. I ran next to a white Hellcat Charger on the freeway the other day. Still had dealer tags, sounded great running 85. Would love to have one. Now that hot weather is getting here, I hope everyone checks their coolant, engine and cabin air filters, oil, change it if it is anywhere near due, tire pressures, as hot roads leads to higher tire pressures which could cause a blow out, and maybe result in a wreck. The race team has a little time off until September I think, other than the local weekly stuff. I apologize for the rambling but I do my missives as I can. Tend to add stuff at different times. Wanted to let you know supposedly the Jeep Trackhawk is going into production with the Hellcat power plant, and Ford has upped the ante with their new Super Snake at 750 hp.

Phill

30th Anniversary Cowtown Mopars Pit Shirt

For the club's 30th anniversary we will be offering new pit shirts. These are a lighter weight shirt than in year's past. Designed to wick away moisture, they will keep you cooler in the summer months. Cost is $25, and that includes getting your name sewn above the right chest pocket. Sizes available: Small to 4XL. Please note the shirts run just a bit small in the shoulder, so if you are on the upper end of filling out your usual shirt, order one size up to make sure they fit. I typically fit in a 1XL, and my orange shirt in the picture is a 2XL. Ordering time has been extended. We will place the group order after the July club meeting/picnic, July 18. Place your order with a board member on or before July 18.

Well it was a dry and warm day in OK yesterday, but there was a nice westerly breeze that made things feel pretty good. There was a good overall turnout with 123 tech cards sold and 15 Cowtown Mopar racers. Several of our racers went past the first round, but not much luck after that. I believe this is the first time ever that I have no award winners to report. If the GM club don't pass us in points after this race I will be surprised. Later that week... Hey 13 in a rowers!!!! Yes who else can say 13 TMCCC championships in a row? I can't hear you!!! Well on a sad note I was right. I thought we would be trailing the GM club after the rough day we had in Ardmore. Not happy about it, but right. We will have some work to do when the schedule resumes in September. Let's all be ready when it's time for the next race.

Gonna have to leave the “speedo” in the closet and miss the July meeting and pool party. We will be in Virginia Beach visiting the granddaughter (sole heiress to the wide and vast Hansen fortune). Oh yes, and I suppose visit with her parents and club members Katie and Trevor Stegner. Much regret that we won't be at the party. Hope you all have a great time, so much so that I read about it in the Star Telegram and the Police blotter. Oh well. Party on Wayne. Party on Garth. Mopar Spotting...1310AM “The Ticket” radio interview with a Dallas City councilman who was very into sports. Question, “Do you still have the Escalade?” “No, I moved up to a Chrys-ler 300, the Escalade is history.” More spotting...movie, “The Swing Vote” with Kevin Cost-ner. Concerns the hijinks around the last uncounted vote in an outback town in New Mexico that will determine the outcome of a Presidential election. On behalf of the sitting President, Richard Petty drives up in his full on NASCAR legal Avenger. Puts Costner on the passenger floorboard and his daughter between the rear roll bars and goes screaming down a New Mexi-co highway with open dumps. Great scene, silly but funny movie. NHRA...Summer Nats, Englishtown, NJ, Matt Hagan, Charger, F/C champ, in Pro Stock two Darts in the semi-final round Allen Johnson, Dart, runner-up Pro Stock. New England Nats, Epping, NH, Tony Schumacher, T/F champ, Tommy Johnson, Jr, Charger runner-up F/C, Al-len Johnson, Dart, runner-up Pro Stock. Thunder Valley Nats, Bristol, TN, all Charger final, Matt Hagan over Ron Capps for the win in F/C. The Texas Legislature session finally ends. In spite of the politicians, Texas is still the greatest state in the Union.

Worth a Look… Local TV channel 26-4 (REV'N TV) airs auto programming all day and night except for the wee hours of the morning when it plays infomercials. Some programming is vin-tage, some new. This includes drag and stock car racing. SpeedVision Network shows turn up on REV'N TV.

Tech Tips Anyone rebuilding big block oil pumps knows that new gaskets for the relief valve plug are very elusive. A Holley power valve gasket with round inner diameter is a perfect fit. Kurt Schuster OxyClean in the powder form that you mix with water works great for getting rust stains and grease stains out of light colored car carpets. The carpets in my leaky convertible get wet and bring up rust stains while grease stains are from the power seat tracks. I mix up a batch of the wife’s OxyClean and the carpet looks great. Get it at WalMart, Target and other places. Barry Hansen
