Illinois Has (Finally) Passed a Green Energy Bill!Illinois Has (Finally) Passed a Green Energy Bill!

After months and months of discussion, the Illinois legislature finally passed a clean energy bill onSeptember 13 that Governor Pritzker signed into law on September 15. While it doesn’t include many ofthe provisions of the original Climate and Equitable Jobs Act introduced in 2020, it does move us in theright direction. Key points include:

· Municipal coal and natural gas plants must be carbon-free by 2045· The state will have 100% clean energy in three decades· Exelon’s nuclear power plants will receive subsidies to remain open· Illinois will offer a $4,000 rebate to electric car buyers· Residential electricity rates will likely increase

You can read more about the details on WBEZ’s websiteWBEZ’s website. Thank you to all who contacted their staterepresentatives and senators, sometimes many times, to encourage them to support this importantlegislation! With it, Illinois becomes a national leader on equitable climate action.

Share Your Class StoryShare Your Class Story

As many of us return to our congregations this fall after a summer hiatus -- some of us in social-

distanced, in-person settings -- we invite you to share your class journeyshare your class journey on our website. We have an

entire section devoted to UU class stories. Our co-founder, the late Rev. Dr. Dorothy Emerson, shared

her own story and provided a blueprint for you to do the same.

Sharing class stories is an important way for us to understand the diversity of class experiences within

Unitarian Universalism.
