ObjectivesAt the end of the conference, the participant should be able to:1. Explore the etiology and pathogenesis of diabetic

foot lesions.2. Define the role of patient education in a team approach to

prevention of diabetic foot lesions.3. Explain the causes of diabetic ulcers and significant

advances in treatment.4. Discuss the pathophysiology and treatment of

Type 2 diabetes.5. Explore the mechanics of footwear and the role of proper

shoe gear in preventing diabetic foot lesions.6. Analyze the role of nutrition and non-invasive vascular

testing in predicting healing of diabetic lesions.7. Explain the dynamics of wound healing and why each

is different.8. Determine the appropriate medical & surgical treatment of

various infected wounds based on the latest clinical trials data.

9. Identify the biochemical and microcellular aspects of the problem wound.

10. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the microbiology of the diabetic foot.

11. Explain antibiotic resistance in Gram Positive infections.12. Discuss strategies/interventions to prevent

diabetic complications.

Target Audience This conference is designed for physicians (DPM, MD, DO)treating patients with diabetes, as well as for diabetic educators,nurses, pedorthists, physical therapists, and all other healthcareprofessionals who have a role in the management of diabeticfoot pathology.

Special fees have been establishedfor military physicians, physical therapists, and internationalguests at $350/$400; for nurses, pedorthists, and other healthprofessionals at $300/$350 and $35 for Residents andStudents with letter of verification from program director.

Workshops are free this year unless they involve special materials or are extremely hands-on. Those workshops will bemarked by double asterisk (**) on the registration form.

The conference registration fee includes tuition, course syllabus, entrance to Exhibit Hall, continental breakfasts,refreshment breaks, Thursday Welcome Reception, FridayLunch, and Friday Reception.
