DUNE Collaboration week• We had 5 parallel sessions (!) during the collaboration meeting

focusing on calibration and cryogenic instrumentation: https://indico.fnal.gov/event/20144/other-view?view=standard

• One of the sessions was a joint discussion on CALCI-DAQ interfaces — productive meeting, we identified many items to follow up that can actually qualify for a dedicated DAQ-CALCI workshop

• In addition, several interface document meetings with Terri, Kyle and other Consortia leaders (HV, TPC/CE, PDS, COMP)

• We presented an update on CALCI interfaces/needs for installation and integration at the DUNE FD I&I workshop following the collaboration meeting

Collab. Week discussions: Ionization laser + cameras

• Productive discussion on integrating cameras into the ionization laser design; See Glenn’s talk: https://indico.fnal.gov/event/20144/session/11/contribution/219/material/slides/0.pdf

Collab. Week discussions: Ionization laser + cameras

• Since then Jan and Glenn have been working to work a camera into the periscope design

• Some discussion also on putting an acrylic enclosure like in ProtoDUNE to insert the camera, but issues due to icing and possible shadowing issues when trying to image from the side. !4

Port tilt study in ProtoDUNe-SP• These tilts can impact laser alignment

and periscope straightness

• Laser design has a “port aligner” feature which provides a one-time adjustment, but measuring the tilt will help make corrections in the analysis as needed.

• We need tilt measuring devices on DUNE FD ports.Glenn

• Glenn is working on purchasing inclinometers and installing them in ProtoDUNE-SP before it is disassembled to measure tilts

• The ports for laser are not assigned yet but there are a few candidate ports that we are aiming for — perhaps we should put the inclinometers on all candidate laser ports to have the tilts measured.

Cameras• Current plan: 3 warm and 12

cold cameras• Exact locations/ports yet to be

finalized• Full Coverage with 12 cold

cameras in the FD (8 in corners 4 in long edge centers)

Top or side view Glenn

• We just discussed camera+laser integration design• Also discussions about HV consortium taking charge of cameras for HV

related monitoring (either under CALCI or HV scope)— to be confirmed• Need to understand camera needs from other groups and converge on

locations, ports etc. • Port assignments for cameras is an open question

Pulsed Neutron Source • We heard

updates on ARTIE (analysis underway) and PNS

• A DD generator test is envisioned at CERN in March 2020 before the end of run-I

Serhan

Xe doping tests right before DD

tests. We need to understand impact on neutrons due to

Xe presence?

DD test at CERN• Time is very short for this DD generator test

• A DD generator is identified at LANL (can run with both DD and DT heads)

• Work is underway to prepare it for shipping to CERN — lot of safety requirements to comply with.

• LANL requests that CERN follow safety requirement from LANL even though the source is run offsite. CERN (Francesco, Olga) is working on it.

• LANL and CERN started communicating — LANL sent a first pass of their requirements to CERN, more to follow

• The generator has not been used at all, depending on how new it is, Bob is suggesting a test at LANL before shipping just to ensure the generator operates okay.

• Sowjanya is finding out how new the generator is. Doing a test at LANL in one of the neutron shielded beam lines is doable but need to understand availability and timelines, required training etc.

Sensors on APAs• Lot of progress through in-person meetings towards this

topic — PDS Dave Warner has especially been very actively working with us

• Next 5 slides on this topic were shown at the I&I workshop and capture the latest discussions and updates on the topic. Except a more detailed/dedicated talk from Anselmo in the coming weeks.

Temperature sensors on APAs (1/4)

•The current configuration assumes 4 sensors/APA with two specialized (< 3 mm OD) cables in each of the PDS cable bundles

•RTD and PDS cables will use the same routing path up to the flange, and installation will be done simultaneously

•RTDs should be plugged in as late as possible in the production process to avoid damage

Proposed sensor distribution on APAs•The proposed distribution is half of the APA doublets with 8 precision

sensors in LAr and the other half with 4 precision sensors in LAr and 4 standard sensors for APA frame measurement

While there is agreement that we should have sensors on APAs, we still need to agree on the proposed sensor distribution scheme for LAr

sensors (putting them at different heights for some APAs) — people worry if it complicates the production/installation process for APAS.

Temperature sensors on APAs (2/4) Outside the Cryostat• In principle, direct cables from PDS flange to racks, where

the multiplexing board for the 24 sensors would be

•Need to understand what is the best grouping scheme for several MUX cards (to minimize cable lengths and noise)

• In terms of rack space, this results in 25U rack space total — easily accommodated in PDS racks? To be confirmed

Temperature sensors on APAs (3/4) Action items•Design of the interface between sensor/cable and APA frame will be

done in the next few weeks (D. Warner, D. Wenman).

•Mechanical structure that holds the sensor away from the frame or in contact with it

•Cable, connector and sensor to be sent to PSL at the end of this week. Prototype to be tested in the cold box at PSL for mechanical interfaces and electronics noise — this will be very useful test

Interface documents update• Sowjanya and Anselmo prepared first version of documents

merging CAL and CI (removing SC) — these are reviewed by Kyle/Terri and other consortia leaders during the face-to-face meetings

• An updated version of documents are being prepared to be uploaded to EDMS

• We will continue to iterate these documents as designs mature

• DAQ, Facility and I&I interface documents still require a first pass to produce merged documents

• Final goal is to have them in a good shape by April

Few issues that came up• The ground planes are no longer part of HV, they are moved to DSS

(falls under I&I under Marzio and team) — This moves our interfaces on using GPs as support for temperature sensors and other devices from HV to DSS

• Need to converge on the proposal of cameras for HV monitoring living in HV consortium and accordingly update those interfaces

• Cable routing for various devices is an open issue: fiber routing for PE laser, cable routing for non-APA RTDs. TPC/CE and PDS may have space for us. Need to also understand availability of DSS ports for this

• Port assignment for many devices (cameras, pressure meters, purity monitors, PNS etc.) is a big major issue that we need to continuously push on
