President’s Message
No matter how you spend your time we hope you spend it doing something you like to
do. If you look forward to what you do each day, it makes for less stress and a higher level of accomplishment. Make a note of what things you like to do. Look for ways to do more of what you enjoy. Its evaluation time for most of us, and this is the time to have discus-sions with your evaluator about what it is about your job that you really enjoy. Ask those around you when they see you at your best and use their feedback to examine your talents and strengths . . . some you may not realize you have.We heard from our guest speaker
and workshop facilitator last month how we need to “secure our own mask first!” But don’t underestimate the impact that helping others will have on you, too. We’ve heard from our Gallup surveys in the past that having a best friend at work increases our enjoy-ment for what we do. This is another area that we underestimate, the impact of close relationships. Our wellbeing is greatly influenced by the people
around us. Some help us achieve, while some may bring us down. Knowing the difference and spending your time with those who enhance your wellbe-ing brings a higher level of satisfac-tion to how you spend your time each day. Spend your time with those who are willing and eager to support your personal and professional growth and development. If this is not something you’ve thought about, now is the time to make that list of people and identify what value or contribution they bring to you.Lastly, the short-term choices we
make can have a long-term effect on our overall health. Finding more enjoyment at work also means adopt-ing healthy habits and making smart lifestyle choices . . . diet, exercise, and sleep, for example, are all pieces of the pie that allow you to have enough en-ergy to get things done efficiently and effectively on a daily basis. Summer is a great time to take advantage of the many activities across campus that will help you increase your knowledge and experience as it relates to your diet and
your exercise habits. Take the oppor-tunity to enjoy our beautiful campus during the spring and summer by getting out over your breaks and lunch time. Meet a friend for a walk around campus. Take turns making each other healthy lunches to eat by the fountains.Where are you finding the enjoyment
in your day, whether at work or home, we have lots to be grateful for. Take the time to think about what you like doing and do it more often! It’s been my pleasure to serve as your
UAAD President this year. I’ve met colleagues from all across our UNL community and marvel at the dedica-tion, enthusiasm and commitment you have to your work, your co-workers and to UNL. Thanks for all you do!Have an enjoyable summer!

UAADCommunity Outreach
Team UAAD Volunteers for The Big Event
On Saturday, April 13 Team UAAD members spent the morning giv-ing back to Lincoln by volunteering for UNL’s The Big Event – an event
aimed to give back to local communities through one large day of service. The Big Event, organized by UNL’s ASUN office, is entirely student-run and funded by donations from the community. Team UAAD was assigned to help the Meadowlane Neighborhood Association beautify Herbert Park. UAAD volunteers assisted in putting new mulch around trees in the park and trimming unwanted growth from under the trees and fence lines. A big thank you to Nicki Evans, Sara Weixelman, Rene Mayo-Rejai, Cathy Lund, Becky Carter, Tony Lazarowicz, and Kate Engel for being part of Team UAAD 2013!
