Claire NolanPresident ofAlki Tours, GTE & lifelong World Traveller

 Dear Traveler,

It’s always an exciting time when we put together our list of destinations for the New Year. We create the list of the best places to go in 2020 by surveying our well-traveled staff, and then our hyper-connected network of local guides based all over the world.

We know that you’re using this list throughout the year to plan your trips (frankly, we are too), so we varied the types of des-tinations in this Update; from an unparalleled trip to view the Northern Lights in the wilds of Alaska, to spring escapes to see the flowers on Mackinac Island, or an epic trip with celebrities to the country music capitol–Nashville, Tennessee.   Nashville may be nearly synonymous with country music, but it’s no one-note town and we will show you why.

Summers are for travelling so why not head over the sun highway in Glacier Park or see the largest grizzly bear reserve on our trip through the Canadian Rockies?  If far flung locales are your dream  let’s visit the metropolis of the future–Dubai. If you have a hanker-ing for ludefisk, ya sure you betcha we have a trip to Scandinavia and the dramatic fjords of Norway.

Fall wouldn’t be as fabulous without seeing peak fall colors from the comfort of a train in New England or trying salsa dancing in colorful Cuba.  Not sure how you’re going to ring in the New Year? We’ve got that covered, too. How about a river cruise on the Mississippi?

Our motto at Alki is–If not now, WHEN?  So get into gear and call us.  Make it your resolution to live your best life by booking your bucket list today.

Call us at 206-935-6848.  We will do our best to fully entertain you in 2020.

Happy Travels,

Claire Nolan

The Netherlands–Off the beaten pathOn our 10-day exploration of Dutch history, culture and landscapes, we will be sure to find plenty of windmills and canals, but we guaran-tee to show you the country in ways that only the locals know about. On this tour we will have the opportunity to travel by electric canal boat, our own private tram-car-turned-restau-rant, and a 19th century sailing ship.

Your journey begins in Amsterdam. There, visit world-renowned museums and  explore the city from our own, private canal boat.  Next, it’s on to The Hague, known for its role in international justice.  In Delft, learn about the craftsmanship involved in creating Delft Blue ceramics. We will stay in Rotterdam at a hotel like no other–onboard the former steamship the SS Rotterdam. The next day tour the city’s world-class architecture while having lunch onboard an antique tram car.

The Netherlands would be nothing without its windmills, so we will visit the UNESCO site of Kinderdijk–home to 19 historic windmills–to learn more about the Dutch fight against the floodwaters. In Dordrecht, we will travel in a unique way–on a 19th century Dutch tall ship.  Here you can help raise the sails and navigate our way through Holland’s rivers, just as the Dutch have done for centuries. From the historic town, we will visit the nearby Biesbosch National Park, where you will have the oppor-tunity to explore the park’s many streams and marshlands by electric boat, kayak, paddle-board or bicycle.  Experience the Netherlands like a local with our expert guide, Eve Sapp.
