IT’S FLU SEASON!

Now more than ever, you must be mindful of the flu as its symptoms are very similar to Covid-19. Continue to adhere to the following safety guidelines:

• Protect others: wearing a mask over your mouth and nose lowers the number of respiratory droplets and particles that you release into the air when you breathe or talk.

• Protect yourself: wearing a mask over your mouth and nose also lowers the number of respiratory droplets and particles from someone else that might get into your nose, mouth, and lungs.

• Individual assessments are always recommended as they help limit the spread of COVID-19. While the entry health screening rules are not required by LA Department of Health, we recommend that each of our employees continues the practice of self-screening BEFORE leaving your house. Things to monitor: Flu or cold like symptoms – runny nose, sneezing, coughing and temperature. Don’t disregard these signs however minor that you may think they are as they can save and protect other people!

• Whenever possible, continue to practice social distancing (regardless of vaccination status) and

continue to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds;

• Remember - Getting vaccinated is the only way to stop COVID-19 from spreading and creating new variants.

• Vaccination for anyone 5+ older is available. Protect your kids now that schools are open!

• All 3 vaccines greatly reduce the risk of getting sick from COVID-19 and are highly effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization, and death after you have completed the process and considered fully vaccinated. http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/docs/about/FAQ-Vaccine.pdf or http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/docs/vaccine/VaccineFacts.pdf

• I received a recent email indicating vacation accruals have changed? Vacation accruals for anyone hired prior to 12/31/2020 remain the same. We have merely reiterated what has been our employee handbook which is that our vacation accrual cap is 200 hours and this cap will remain the same. Once this cap is reached, vacation time will cease to accrue until the earned but unused vacation time falls below the cap. To clarify – if you already have 200 hours as of today, you will not lose those hours – you simply stop earning more and there will be no automatic cash outs. The only time you can cash out any accrued and unused hours is at the time of separation.

Employees hired on or after January 1, 2021, will have a separate vacation accrual policy.

• What about sick time accrual? Sick time accrual will remain at a cap of a maximum of 48 hours. Team Members who have already accrued this time (or have more) will keep those hours. Sick leave is earned based on hours worked. In compliance with the Healthy Workplace/Healthy Families Act of 2014; a newly hired employee may use accrued paid sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment.

• Will I continue to get Notifications of Exposures to COVID-19? Yes! If an employee has been identified and confirmed as Covid-19 positive, all employees directly exposed are personally notified by Human Resources.

• Can I continue filing for unemployment during this time? Whether you are furloughed or permanently laid off, you may continue to apply for unemployment if we do not have work available or your job has been eliminated. To file a claim, visit the link below: https://www.edd.ca.gov/unemployment/

• I am applying for unemployment but the address for the employer shows a P.O. Box in Nebraska - is this correct? This is correct. Our 3rd party unemployment administrator is in North Platte, Nebraska.

• What happens if I have not been recalled for work and/or are unable to find another job? For information and frequently asked questions, be sure to visit https://edd.ca.gov/newsroom.htm on a regular basis or their FAQ’s page for unemployment insurance related questions https://www.edd.ca.gov/unemployment/.

• How do I change or update some of my contact information? Whether you need to change or update your address or phone, request information for unemployment purposes and/or request any type of record, you can email all requests to [email protected]. Be sure to indicate your name and badge # on all emails.

We will respond to you within 48 hours. Please confirm that you have received a response to ensure we received your email. Payroll records requests will take up to 5 business days to process.
