CE status

Reaching an almost stable configuration with the presently available information After CV feedback on integration we might

proceed either to slightly revise it or not --- 2D & 3D synced

Need to revise implementation in EDMS Clarification of deadline for specification for

preliminary technical drawings needed! Naming of the various accessible underground

areas launched within GS (yesterday) Will be important to univocally associated naming

to different areas (for ventilation & safety assessment)

Integration update

Discussions with K. Kershaw concerning the applicability of the ITER Remote Handling Code of Practice for perfect vertical movement Idea is to improve the handling of the initial

horn/reflector support structure Double layer of iron:

Facilitate reduction of streaming Waste zoning and dismantling will benefit (see link)

Two solutions under investigations: Closed box (see later) Open box (not analysed still in detail)

Target design update

Two solutions for target cooling under consideration 6 mm radius, 100 cm long, graphite PT2020, He-

cooled1. Beryllium single outer casing to prevent graphite

bending with He circulation in interstitial (preliminary results next page)

2. Beryllium double casing with external/internal flow (next in line)

Target design update on-going

work Solution 1:

Analyse dynamical stresses Check “stagnant” locations and improve target

shape Analyse downstream window heating Could be limited by high stresses with graphite and

high-T expanding towards the Be external vessel Solution 2:

“safer” solution Larger footprint of the overall target assembly – with

reduced distance if horn neck is kept fixed at 24 mm Both solutions to be presented/discussed in

detail at the next SB WG meeting 6th November17th October 2013

Ventilation systems upgrade

Volumes of the various areas are now available EN/CV will finalize ASAP the extraction flow rate ... Together with DGS/RP, this will allow DGS/SEE to

provide semi-final impact into environment Following EN/CV proposition at last SBWG

meeting (link), modification of the rising systems

EN/CV draughtsman started addressing dimensions/cotes in the CATIA model – results at the next SBWG meeting

SB preliminary risks analysis

S. Hutchins launched the WG during last PTM (link) S. Hutchins and F. Valentini prepared a first APR

table, which will be further discussed at the SB WG and then at the safety WG according to Steve’s plans

17th October 2013

NB: important to name the areas in a common and agreed way – see CE points

m detectors/Alignme

nt In the next 2 weeks we’ll start addressing

muon detectors Availability from UniGE to collaborate on Si-

detectors technology Need to address timing needs, installation

possibilities, granularity needed, etc. – collaboration with experiment(s)

Sensitivity on target/horn and reflector

alignment Will be analysed in the next to week

(Alfredo/Wioletta), to confirm the need for “mm-class” transversal movement

Will provide also indication on the required spacing between detectors in the two m pits
