Dear Boutique Partner,

We are excited to be working with you to get your merchandise online! Online, customers aren’t able to touch and feel the product, so it is essential that photos are representative and inspiring to customers.

Browsing our site is the best way to familiarize yourself with our guidelines. These best practices are now the standard for ecommerce. Our updated photography guidelines are in this document. Once you familiarize yourself, you will be able to add product as frequently as you would like. Pro-tip: our top performing stores have at least 50-100 products live on our site at any given time and add new merchandise on a weekly basis.

The following are the updates we’ve made: • We updated image size requirements to meet ecommerce consumer expectations. • We’ve expanded acceptable imagery to make using existing photographs easier, including

allowing for editorial photographs. • We’ve added more guidance and examples on what makes a strong photo.

We encourage boutiques to only use vendor photos. Photos should also be representative of items – colors and shapes must match reality – otherwise people will return them. If you are planning on submitting photos, we recommend adding a few test products to better understand standards first.

Images will generally be approved within two business days of submission (but often times much quicker!). We appreciate your time and want to ensure that when you upload your images, they will be approved.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] or +1-646-360-2415. We are so excited to work together!

Warm Regards, The Boutique Success Team

Shoptiques Photography Standards

Overview

Your photos should meet the following criteria: • Images should be high resolution and sized at 1050 (width) x 1575 (height) pixels. • Lighting and background should be consistent with no discoloration or glare. • Any models shown should be cropped from above the lip down. • Apparel should be shot on a professional model; unless the image is professional ghost

mannequin or flat. • Images of shoes off-model should feature a single shoe facing to the left or can be editorial. • Jewelry should be shot from a birds-eye view (directly on top of the product). Rings and large

bracelets should be shot from the front, and the type of jewelry must be apparent (i.e. can tell the difference between a ring and a broach). For necklaces, the clasp should also be visible in at least one of the images. We now also accept editorial images.

• Bags should be shot from the front, and can now be shot hanging or editorial. • Gift and home items should be photographed outside of packaging.

We strongly recommend using vendor photographs, and do not recommend producing your own photoshoot. If you are interested in producing your own photos, please reach out to [email protected] for additional instruction.

General Photo Guidelines Following are the important guidelines that apply to all categories. Keep in mind that editing and adapting your images correctly is essential to having the product approved, but the quality of the original image provided by your vendor is by far the most important factor.

SIZE & RESOLUTION Images submitted to shoptiques.com should be high resolution images, appearing crisp and clear, with no blurriness or pixelation. This allows customers to use the zoom tool to inspect details of the merchandise and be assured of its quality and value.

● Images should be cropped and resized to 1050 (width) x 1575 (height) pixels. ● Images files should be .jpg or .png files saved at the highest quality.

BACKGROUND Products should be photographed on a solid, neutral background. Presenting products on a neutral background eliminates distraction and also allows colors to be represented more accurately.

ACCEPTABLE

Page 5: updates we’ve made...2016/04/22  · We accept editorial images and also still life. For still life, the primary image should be of the left shoe pointing to the left. A single image

BACKGROUND (continued) Images which have a background that is not one color, where the texture of the background is irregular, or where the background color does not fill the frame should have the background removed. For accessories and home products, shadows and reflections which do not align along the bottom of the frame should be removed.

If you have vendor images which are otherwise suitable for the site but require the background to be removed, Shoptiques partners with Pixelz, an ecommerce photo editing company. Sign-up for a free trial at pixelz.com/shoptiques.

EDITORIAL PHOTOS We also accept professional editorial pictures, where the product is clearly visible, resolution is high and the photo is resized and cropped properly. High quality editorial images which do not crop out the model’s head may be accepted at the discretion of the Merchandising team. Editorial pictures are accepted for all categories.

LIGHTING Lighting is EVERYTHING. It affects the skin tone of the model, the color of the garment and the overall quality of the image. It's always best to work with an commerce photographer and shoot in a professional studio to ensure your merchandise is well presented.

A FULL IMAGE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL COLOR & PATTERN VARIANTS SOLD If a product is sold in multiple colors or patterns, you must provide a full image of all the variants sold. These additional images must also meet all guidelines - swatch images are not accepted, without a full product image.

INCORRECT CORRECT

LOGOS, WATERMARKS, OR TEXT will not be accepted.

Clothing The primary image should be a professionally produced product photo. 3D Mannequins are also accepted if they are true composite images. Clothes shot flat are also accepted. Clothing shot on a mannequin or hanger is not accepted.

If you have questions or are unsure of whether or not your vendor’s images will be suitable, send sample images to [email protected] and we would be happy to provide you with feedback and guidance.

CLOTHING ON A MODEL We recommend asking your vendor for the following views to give the customer enough information about the product. An online shopper cannot inspect the garment’s details or try it on, so they truly rely on the images and description you provide.

Crop: Models should be cropped between the nose and lip at the top of the image and just below the feet at the bottom of the image. If the item is a top or short dress, the bottom of the image may be cropped at the leg.

INCORRECT CORRECT

No part of the garment should be cut off in the primary photo, however, supplementary images featuring closer crops are acceptable.

INCORRECT CORRECT

Margins: The image should take up an appropriate proportion of the frame and not have excess white space.

INCORRECT CORRECT

Model dimensions: The model featured in your images should be the appropriate height and dimensions for a fashion model (5’8” or taller, with bust: 32” waist: 24” hips: 34”). Clothing photographed on non-standard models has a much higher return rate.

Please note, if an item is sold in both straight and plus sizes, the image should be of the garment on a straight-size model. If clothing is sold exclusively in plus-sizes, then the image should be of the garment on a plus-size model.

INCORRECT CORRECT

Model pose: Models’ pose should be neutral, allowing the customer to focus on the clothing. Model should typically be standing face-on towards the camera in the primary image, however, high quality editorial images will also be accepted.

Styling: Important details of the item being sold must be visible, and only vendor images with neat and professional styling will be accepted. Model’s hair, or other layers of clothing should not obscure the item being sold. Tags should not show. Items should be fully steamed for best presentation.

3D MANNEQUIN 3D mannequins, also known as “ghost mannequins” or “invisible mannequins” can be accepted. Images created using this technique must be true composite photos - images taken on a mannequin where the mannequin is just erased will not be accepted. Providing both a front and a back view is strongly recommended.

FLAT Images of clothing shot flat must be neat and of a professional quality. However, we have found that flat images do not sell as well at $100+ price points without supplementary on-model photos.

Fiber Content: Providing the correct fiber content information is not only useful for the customer, but a legal requirement. Please ensure your description is correct down to the breakdown in percentages. Information can generally found in the tags sewn into clothing.

If you are selling jeans, for example, simply “Demin” would not be acceptable. The correct format should be along the lines of “90% cotton, 8% polyester, 2% elastane.”

Measurements: Detailed information about a garment’s measurements are essential to helping online customers make a purchase decision, the more details, the better. For sub-categories such as jeans for example, inseam measurements are essential.

Shoes

We accept editorial images and also still life. For still life, the primary image should be of the left shoe pointing to the left. A single image is all that is required to be approved. However, we recommend the following views.

ACCEPTABLE

If your vendor provides images of the shoe facing right, a mirrored image is likely acceptable. To flip the image you can use the image editing tools provided in your Boutique Admin.

Margins: Shoes should be aligned to the center of the frame with equal space above and below the shoes. Margins should be consistent so that the shoe appears the same size in both the primary and supplementary images.

Styling: The primary image can be of the shoe off the model, or an editorial image of the shoe on a model. Shoes, laces and straps should be neatly arranged.

!11

Page 13: updates we’ve made...2016/04/22  · We accept editorial images and also still life. For still life, the primary image should be of the left shoe pointing to the left. A single image

Fiber Content and Materials: Providing the correct fiber content and materials information is not only useful for the customer, but a legal requirement. Please ensure your description is correct down to the breakdown in percentages. Information can generally be found sewn into or printed on shoes.

Measurements: Measurements such as the heel height is required for all heeled shoes. Shaft height is required for all boots. Detailed measurements are essential to provide for online shoppers. Shoe shoppers don’t purchase without those details.

Example: Heel height: 3.25”; shaft is 4.5”; ankle opening is 6”; Measurements based off size 7. Measurements may vary slightly by size.

Page 14: updates we’ve made...2016/04/22  · We accept editorial images and also still life. For still life, the primary image should be of the left shoe pointing to the left. A single image

Bags

The primary image can be of the bag shot front-on, with the entire item in view, hanging on hook, or editorial on model.

We recommend providing the following views of your bags to give the customer enough information about the product.

Crop: If off-model, the primary image of a bag should be cropped so that the entire item is in view and no part of the item, including the strap, is cut off.

INCORRECT CORRECT

Margins: Products which appear larger in real life should take up a larger proportion of the frame, while smaller items should take up less space, as a guideline. One shot on model often assists the consumer to understand dimensions better. Detailed measurements in the description are required for bags.

Styling: The image should be of a bag that is neatly stuffed to have an attractive shape. Images featuring a cloth or canvas bag which is folded flat can be accepted.

INCORRECT CORRECT

Fiber Content and Materials: Providing the correct fiber content and materials information is not only useful for the customer, but a legal requirement. Please ensure your description is correct down to the breakdown in percentages. Information can generally be found sewn into or printed on the bag.

Measurements: Measurements such as the dimensions of the bag are required. Strep length (if applicable) is also useful information. Detailed measurements are essential to provide for online shoppers. Please indicate if bags are large enough to carry a laptop if possible.

Example: Measures: 10” H x 12” W x 4” D; Strap is 44” L; Strap drop is 22”; Handle drop is 8”. Fits _________ laptops.

Jewelry The primary image can be of the jewelry item shot off model or can also be editorial, on a professional model. Only a single image is required to list an item, but jewelry is much more likely to sell when multiple views are provided. We strongly suggest that you provide these if the images are available from your vendor.

INCORRECT CORRECT

Crop: For still life images, the entire item should be in view. The only exception to this rule is necklaces - the primary image can be a closer crop, provided that the supplementary image pictures the clasp or fastening.

INCORRECT CORRECT

Margins: To minimize likelihood of returns, it is best to represent the relative size of the item in the photo (and also provide detailed measurements in the description). One image on model is also helpful to indicate true size if available.

!16

Page 18: updates we’ve made...2016/04/22  · We accept editorial images and also still life. For still life, the primary image should be of the left shoe pointing to the left. A single image

Color and light: Items should be photographed to accurately represent color. Any supplementary images provided must be a color-match to the primary image.

Highly reflective objects should not have glare, or reflections of the camera or background. Images of semi-precious or precious stones should capture the brilliance of the stone. This is recommended even for artificial stones, but is especially important if you are selling items at a higher price-point.

INCORRECT CORRECT

Styling: Vendor images must arrange the item in a neat and professional way and ensure that important details are visible. Chains should be carefully arranged or coiled, a neat curve is preferred.

INCORRECT CORRECT

Shots of the full item outside of its packaging must be provided. Images of the item as it is packaged or displayed by the manufacturer can be accepted as a supplementary image.

Angle of photography on off-model photos: Vendor images should feature jewelry shot at the appropriate angle so that the item can be clearly identified and the perspective is not distorted.

Necklaces and most bracelets should be laid out flat and shot from above (bird’s eye view).

INCORRECT CORRECT

Cuffs and other large bracelets should be shot from an angle so that the back of the item is visible.

Only a single image is required to list an item, but closer crops of key details and fastenings (if applicable) help a product to sell.

INCORRECT CORRECT

Margins: We recommend using your best judgement to accurately reflect the size of the item in the photo. Detailed measurements in the description are crucial to providing an accurate description of the item.

Tags, labels and stickers should not be pictured: As a general rule, tags, labels and stickers are a distraction. In limited cases where the image provided by the manufacturer features a tag and the brand is well known, an exception may be made at the discretion of the Merchandising team.

Items should be pictured individually unless sold as a set: If the vendor image pictures an item set, then that image can be accepted if items will be sold as a set. If the items are to be sold individually, then a distinct image of each variant to be sold must be shown.

Please ensure your description is correct down to the breakdown in percentages. If you are unsure of this information, contact your vendor.
