Where it All Begun …
This Presentation gives you an Overview of the expected task to do, to successfully upgrade to the NetWeaver 7.0 Suite including the technical Upgrade and the functional Upgrade and also some Architecture, Implementation and tuning tip's.
The content of the Upgrade Workshop WDEBU7 was also the base for two new innovated tools to speed up the complete Upgrade to NetWeaver 7.0 (technical and functional) dramatically:
ASU (application specific upgrade) toolbox for BI which covers all pre and post tasks for the technical upgrade.
CTC (central template configuration) for BI-Java which covers the complete connection between Abap and Java stack

The Upgrade Information DilemmaThe Single Source of Truth
The Note Cascade Problem:Information is distributed in guides and a set of cascading notes.Notes list additional notes. Customers do not know how many “levels” to look at, where to stop the link cascade.Customers are never certain, if they have read all necessary notes.
The Aging Problem:New problems are found and documented in notes,Problems are fixed, the notes are obsolete with a certain SP.Initial shipped information becomes incomplete and outdated
The Search for Relevance Problem:Note attributes do only allow a rough classification (Rel, OS, DB)Customers have to read a lot of notes to figure out which are relevant.
The Late Change Problem:During an upgrade project notes might change and new notes might be written. The note-reading-orgy has to be repeated.

New Technical and Functional Features (I)Starting with NetWeaver 7.0
For functional enhancements in SAP NetWeaver 7.0, see additional Presentation at http://service.sap.com/bi or in SDN.New ABAP password rules: see SAP Notes 862989 and 1023437
Tip: Set the parameter login/password_downwards_compatibility >= 3
New ABAP OO programming guidelines - necessary for enhancing new DTP and transfer rulesNew RFC behavior in SM59 - Classical qRFC Version or qRFC NetWeaverNew BI lock server: see SAP Note 928044
Tip: abap/shared_objects_size_MB >= 128 and enque/table_size = 25000 New Administrator Workbench transaction RSA1
Tip: use RSA1OLD and lock RSA1Tip: InfoPackage Groups are still available with RSA1OLD
New BI Authorizations set in SPRO (maintenance in RSECADMIN)If you used an authorization concept in SAP BW 3.x, switch back to “obsolete Concept with RSR Authorization Objects” during the technical upgrade Important! After the technical upgrade, switch back to the new concept and see SAP Note 820183 and 923176
© SAP 2008 / SAP TechEd 08 / IM212 Page 13
New Technical and Functional Features (II)Starting with NetWeaver 7.0
New Frontend Components (BEx Suite with SAP NetWeaver 7.0)Tip: Block new frontend components in transaction RS_FRONTEND_INIT in the field QD_EXCLUSIVE_USER (see SAP Note 962530).Tip: Which BEx Analyzer version is called by RRMX? Transaction RRMX_CUST (see SAP Note 970002)
In SAP BW 3.x a formula variable is replaced before the aggregation. In BI 7.0 it is replace afterwards. This causes changes in queries: see SAP Note 1005772Improving performance for MDX and DataStore object: see SAP Note 1016067New Handling of dialog and batch processes with RSBATCH
Tip: Change to always run in batch mode (can be switched)Tip: All other are jobs only available in batch mode, apart from ODSACTIVAT, ODSSID, and ODSREQUDELTip: New DTP Processes in batch mode only

Benefits of New Data Transfer Process
Data Transfer Process (DTP) - Data Distribution within SAP NetWeaver BILoading data from physical layer (object) to another oneSeparation of delta mechanism for different data targetsEnhanced filtering in dataflowImproved transparency of staging processes across data warehouse layers (PSA, DWH layer, ODS layer, Architected Data Marts)Improved performance: optimized parallelizationEnhanced error handling for DataStore object (error stack)Enables real-time data acquisition
Migration ConsiderationsCreate new InfoPackages for data load settingsIncorporate DTP in Process Chains Utilize new features of DTP, i.e. enhanced Error Handling and Delta Mechanism

Opportunities Not HarvestedTraditional Methods Too Inflexible, Unreliable or Not Economical
THE TRENDSIncreased adoption of analytics
Data explosion, growing 50% p.a.
Frequent need for change
More users / usage of analytics
Users create queries despite having no knowledge of BI technology
THE CHALLENGESTraditional BI platforms are bottlenecks
Unpredictable response times
Inability to meet demand for change

Hardware Sizing
SizingHardware sizing
Hardware partner translates the results of SAP QuickSizer into optimal configuration of hardwareHigh availability setup:Extra blade(s) required as backup for automatic failover
Valid for production and test systemPossibly less rigid performance requirements for test systems optional sharing of resources (see ‘BIA in non-production environments’)
Important note: sizing has to be adjusted once new InfoCubes are indexed by BIA thathaven’t been taken into account for the original sizing

BIA Sizing Now in SAP QuickSizer
SAP QuickSizer can now capture sizing information for BIAhttp://service.sap.com/quicksizer > Create Project and select SAP NetWeaver BI
Most of the data captured is the same as for BI sizing. If you have already performed a BI sizing, you can Copy & Paste the values for the BIA sizing.
You must create a new QuickSizer project, otherwise the BIA options will not appear.
If you already have a BI system (loaded with data), then the method is described in SAP note 917803 and the program is now in SAP standard (note 1244535).

SAP NetWeaver BIA Appliance FAQMemory
Which memory setup is supported for BIA blades?See matrix for release status of blade generation and memory.32 GB Harpertown (quad-core) blades are currently in certification process. See SAP note 1161765 for release status per hardware partner. For mid-size customers, the HW partners offer one XS configuration consisting of 8GB blades. This offering provides best value at reasonable hardware and license costs.Any combination of blade generations can be used in the same BIA system. See SAP note 1163149 for more details.

SAP NetWeaver BIA Appliance FAQMaintenance and Support
Who maintains and supports hardware, software and OS of the BIA?BIA software support is included in the SAP service feeAdditional support contracts are highly recommended:
Hardware partner offers contracts for hardware maintenance; ask for tailored BIA support offersNovell offers enhanced support for SUSE Linux in collaboration with SAP Linux Lab ('SUSE PrioritySupport for SAP'). This offer facilitates communication and ensures seamless support at highquality particularly for BIA customers. Please check www.novell.com/sapsupport for moreinformation.
The maintenance and support process is organized in the same manner as other SAP productsSoftware issues are handled by SAP, and the link to hardware partners is via Linux Lab.The customer is responsible for applying patches and support packages or for contracting this workto third parties.Note that OS patches need to be released by the HW partner!

Performance and Sizing Considerations
Sample SizingBefore upgrade, 100% ABAP (about 25% BEx) (*)Upgrade requires about 25% more CPU and memory for Java (Portal) (125% in total) (**)After upgrade, 75% ABAP (without 25% BEx) and 50% Java (25% BEx)
(*) BEx Web percentage share based on performance analysis in your system(**) Sample BI system with 8 CPU and 16 GB memory would require additional 2 CPU and 4 GB memory for
Java (Portal)

Recommendation
Use existing BI serverBased on load and performance tests, existing BI server should be sufficient even with Usage Types AS Java, EP, and BI Java
Upgrade SAP BW 3.x to BI to SAP NetWeaver 7.0
Perform standalone installation on one server with two differentsystems
Best combination of lowest hardware requirements and highest flexibility for scalability (dialog instances could be scaled independently)
Choose ABAP as User Management Engine (UME) configurationReduce administrator effort by using combined user persistenceAutomatic configuration of UME is one advantage of Add-In Installation
