Produce Your File From Camtasia These instructions  assume that you have already created your project in Camtasia and that it is in its final form (no further edits required). 

Remove Captions Since we’ll be adding captions directly in Youtube, you need to remove the captions in Camtasia. 

1.  Click on Captions. 2.  Click on Display (icon should no longer be selected; captions should not display in preview window). 

Use the Production Wizard to Produce an AVI file 1.  Click on the Produce Video As icon (or go to File>Produce Video As).

2.  Select Custom production settings on the first page of the production wizard and click Next.

3.  Select AVI video on the How would you like to produce your video? screen and click Next.

4.  On the AVI Encoding Options page, leave the default options in the Video and Audio boxes.

a.  Click the Video Compression button and make sure the Compressor selected is TechSmith Screen Capture Codec and click OK. 

b.  Click the Audio Format button and make sure the format selected is MPEG Layer‐3 (TechSmith LAME) and click OK. 

c.  Click Next on the main AVI encoding options screen.

5.  On the Video Size screen make sure the dimensions match what you originally recorded at (or a scaled down ratio of what you recorded at, in order to avoid distortion) and click Next.

6.  On the Video Options page, make sure the Include watermark and the Embed Video into HTML check boxes are cleared and click Next.

7.  On the Marker Options page, clear both check boxes under Table of contents and click Next. 

8.  On the last page of the production wizard, indicate where you want the file saved, then start the production process. Once it has finished, you’ll have an AVI file ready for upload to youtube. You should play it first just to verify that it produced all right before you upload it. 

9.  You are now ready to Produce a Caption File.

Producing Your File from the Flip These instructions  assume that you have already filmed and  edited your clip (and/or created a movie from several clips) using the FlipShare software. Your video should be in its ready to upload form –either a clip or a movie. 

1.  In the FlipShare software, make sure you have highlighted the clip or movie you want to upload. At the bottom of the screen,  look for the Share icons and select Online. 

2.  Select YouTube from the list of places to share online and click Next.

3.  Enter your YouTube login information (talk to Danielle if you need the  official Oviatt Library log in info) and click Next.

4.  Leave the video as public (unless you specifically only want to share it with a few people), and click Next.

5.  In the lower left corner of the FlipShare software, you’ll see that the Flipshare software is creating your video and uploading it to YouTube.

6.  Once it has finished uploading your video, click the Go to YouTube link. You may need to log in to YouTube in the browser window. 

7.  Your video is now uploaded! You should now Produce a Caption File for your video.

Producing a Caption File The caption file is the file that youtube will use to provide closed captioning for your video. CSUN has a subscription to docsoft which can create caption files for you, whether or not you have a script. 

If you do not have a script, docsoft uses voice recognition to create the transcript/caption file; you will need to carefully review the script to be sure what it has created matches what is said in the video.  You can “train” docsoft to increase the voice recognition accuracy by uploading a sound/video file with an exact transcript. 

Once you have a created a caption file, the next step is: •  Uploading the AVI to YouTube if you are using a video from Camtasia. •  Adding a Caption File in YouTube if you are using a video from the Flip. 

If You Have a Script for Your Project 1.  Start by taking your script and transferring it to a .txt file. 2.  Go to docsoft (http://docsoft.csun.edu) and log in. You can contact Kate Berggren (kate.berggren@csun.edu) 

if you would like an account, or contact Danielle to use her login. 3.  From the main docsoft screen, select Upload AV Files.

4.  Select (or create) a speaker profile and speaker vocabulary. (this isn’t as critical when you have a script, but it helps train docsoft to recognize your voice, so that if ever need captions for something where you don’t have a script, it increases the accuracy of the transcription.) 

5.  Select your AVI file in the AV File to Upload field. Then enter Exact Transcript in the Additional/Related Text field and select your .txt file with the script in the Text File field. Then click Submit. 

6.  Use the View Files page (available in the Main menu, if you are not taken there directly) to see the progress on your file.

7.  Once processing on your file is completed, and there is a checkmark in the Transcript column, select the check box next to your file and click the Export Transcripts button. 

8.  Choose SubRip as the transcript type and click Finish.

9.  When prompted, open the file (instead of saving) with Notepad.

10.  Go through and look for any fixes – docsoft seems to remove apostrophes, so you may need to put those back in.

11.  To save the file, go to File>Save As.  Remove the .txt from the file name (making sure to leave .srt at the end of the filename). Then go to the Save as Type field and change it to All Files. Then select Save.

12.  Notice, even though the file looks like a text file, it is saved as a Subrip (SRT) file.

Uploading the AVI to YouTube 1.  After you login in (talk to Danielle if you need the  official Oviatt Library log in info), select the Upload link. 

2.  Click on the Upload video button. 

3.  Select your AVI file in the window that opens.

4.  As your upload progresses (as shown by the progress bar at the top), fill in basic info about your video and then save your changes.

5.  Once your video finishes uploading, go to My Videos. 

Adding a Caption File in YouTube 1.  For each video, you can see some  general info. Select the down arrow, then click on Captions and Subtitles.

2.  Select Add New Captions or Transcript.

3.  Select the caption file you created and select caption file as the file type.

4.  When the captions have been successfully added, you’ll see English as an available caption track and you can turn the captions on in the preview window. 

5.  Your video is now live on YouTube and ready to share!

Embedding Your YouTube Video If you are going to be embedding your YouTube video, either in a regular library page or in Library a la Carte, there’s an additional step you need to take. The embed code YouTube gives you isn’t XHTML standard (which the library is trying to be), so you need to go to this site that generates XHTML standard code from the embed code YouTube gives you.  On that page: 

1.  Paste the embed code you have in the main field. 2.  Enter  the options you want the embedded video to have (such as whether to include related videos shown 

at the end or to give the full screen option). Then click Generate Code. 3.  Copy and paste the code that appears below the Generate Code button. 4.  (Optional) The code automatically generates a link back to the page you just used to generate the standard 

code. If you want to remove this link, look for this line of code and delete it (do not delete the </div> tag that follows this code):
