If you have wire to be collected, it is essential that you register. If you aren’t finished removing burnt wire yet, there will be another collection in early 2021. To register call Council’s Bushfire Recovery Team on 1800 518 222. Hard and Green Waste Collections Hard and green waste collection will commence Register for fencing wire collection from the end of October. View your closest collection point and allocated date at www. towong.vic.gov.au. Please note that bookings are essential by calling Council on 02 6071 5100. You will be issued with a booking number and appointment time. Wombats and more Wombats Australian author Jackie French is hosting a reading of her award-winning picture book, “Diary of a Wombat” via Zoom on October 7, 10.30 – 11.30am. This book is suitable for children aged 4-7 years. Jackie has written more than 140 books and won more than 60 national and international awards. To join the session email Shelley for the link at [email protected]. au. Free solar panels REC Solar Australia and New Zealand is offering approx. 50 x 6.5kw REC Alpha solar panel systems free of charge to support a greener rebuild. The program is not limited to burned buildings and is open to community organisations such as sporting clubs, schools, hospitals and charities as well as community-based assets like town community centres. Any organisation which had infrastructure destroyed or damaged by fire, or suffered a negative impact to revenue, through lost sponsorship, patronage etc, may be eligible. To find out more go to reconstruct.net.au. Your Town Your Say Recovery and renewal is well underway in the Upper Murray with 11 Community Recovery Committees driving the recovery journey. The recently-established Corryong CRC has met twice and members want to cast a wider net to gather the ideas and priorities of as many residents as possible. The group plans to start a Facebook page and a newsletter to keep information flowing. In the first instance a survey is being designed to find out more from locals. Surveys will be able to be filled out online or in hard copy and will be available soon. Keep an eye out in the Corryong Courier and other local businesses for more information.
