Product News PFC capacitors of the MKV series EPCOS has continuously improved its MKV capacitors for power factor correction (PFC) in recent years. The latest development step has led to significantly improved technical parameters and specifications. The MKV capacitors are used in applications operating at high ambient temperatures and under adverse conditions. New technical parameters and specifications:

Inrush current handling capability up to 500 IR Overcurrent handling capability up to 3 IR, depending on the capacitor type

(including of combined effects of harmonics, overvoltages and capacitance tolerance) Average operating life up to 300 000 hours at temperature class -40/D Number of switching operations max. 20 000 / year (satisfies IEC 60831-1+/2)

max. 50 000 / year (satisfies IEC 60831-1+/2 when standard PFC reactors are used)

These improvements have already been implemented in currently available types (ordering code B25836BxxxxA305). The product range has been considerably extended and now covers voltages from 400 to 800 V and powers from 5 to 30 kvar. The new types are currently set up in the SAP system; data sheets will be available in the next few weeks. Production has already begun. Predecessor types (ordering code B25836AxxxxA372) will initially continue to be available in parallel, but will be produced only when specifically requested. No stocks of these types will be built up. As there are dimensional differences between the *A372 and *A305 series (*A305 types are higher due to a different feeder clamp), customers should check existing designs for compatibility.
