Stantec originally worked with the architectural firm of Sikes,
Jennings, Kelly & Brewer to create a “sense of place” for the Harris
County Improvement District #1 project. The team used visual
references based on the history and connection to oil for this region,
strategically weaving the elements throughout the district.
More recently, in collaboration with SWA Group and Vollmer Asso-
ciates, Stantec Boulder continues to assist with the newly named
Uptown Houston District in the creation of a Vision Book, website,
identity development and conceptual drawings on bus shelters and
transit systems as part of ongoing streetscape improvements.
Uptown Houston has a plan, the Uptown Dedicated Bus Lanes
Project, which is designed to get these employees to and from work
using Houston’s highly successful busway system.
Stantec is helping Uptown Houston to rebuild Post Oak Boulevard
into an exquisitely designed Grand Boulevard while preserving exist-
ing automobile access, substantially improving transit service and
creating a beautifully landscaped pedestrian environment.
For twenty years, CommArts, now Stantec has been an essential part
of how Uptown Houston is experienced by those who live, work and
play here. They’ve been a creative and resourceful partner in ensur-
ing that a visit to Uptown Houston is unique and unforgettable. Their
work includes virtually all our visitor and guest “touch points,” from
the design of our landmark public realm elements to the design of
our web site, CommArts has helped attract and retain new residents,
shoppers and both corporate and signature retail partners to Uptown.
