    Top Technology and Top QualityUhde HPT manufactures all types of

    valves which are required in the

    HP section of an urea plant.

    All valves are completely

    free of copper-bearing

    metals. Recent optimiza-

    tion of the product lines

    covers a modular design in

    order to easily and cost-effi-

    ciently adapt the valves to the

    varying piping standards of plant

    contractors. Development is ongoing for

    the application of new alloy totally avoid-

    ing the well-known corrosion problems in

    HP urea service.

    Due to the highly aggressive nature of

    the process media at high pressures of

    200 bar and temperatures of 180C the

    urea process which seems to be simple

    demands highest technical standards.

    This concerns the valve technology in

    the synthesis loop in particular.

    Control valvesThe control valve is an essential constitu-

    ent for the process. This valve is charac-

    terized by high speed, high positioning

    accuracy and a long service life.

    High accuracy is achieved by an electronic

    valve positioner designed for rapid signal

    conditioning. The positionof the valve stem

    is measured using a position transmitter

    in order to obtain great reproduction.

    Many years of experience in the design-

    related arrangement of the seat and the

    cone and in the selection of the appro-

    priate materials led to the achievement

    of long service lives. The simple and

    robust structure of the valve and the con-

    trol parts results in the highest degree of

    functional safety.

    Bending and welding of pipe classes

    All piping must be corrosion-resistant

    and should also satisfy the particularly

    stringent requirements dictated by the

    location in the urea plant and by the

    process licensor.

    Uhde supplies completely prefabricated

    and tested isometrics and spools. The

    high demands on the scope of tests car-

    ried out and on the fabrication process

    can only be satisfied by a comprehensive

    quality system and properly qualified

    personnel. This means, for example,

    that each weld has to be X-rayed several

    times and that corrosion resistance has

    to be tested according to the instructions

    prevailing for each combination of welding

    filler metal, piping and fitting material.

    Heat exchanger

    The hairpin exchanger can be operated for

    a pressure range up to hundreds of bars

    on tube- or shell-side. The exchangers

    have a big surface and a narrow design

    to place them into an existing plant.

    Controlling aggressive fluids

    The standard method of testing stainless

    steel used for urea plants is the Huey test,

    however, depending on the materials, the

    Streicher test or Strauss test can also beapplied.
