    1/1

    Dear Supporters and Comrades,

This letter is to inform you that Casa Atabex Ache has received a 30

day notice to vacate the premises by April 30, 2013 without any

    explanation, warning or prior conversation.

Our first emergency meeting took place on April 8th @ 6pm, 471 Ea

st 140th Street, Basement.Thank you Casa Atabex Aches Communit

y Board of Directors, South Bronx Community members and tenants

, In Bold Re-Birth, For a Better Bronx, Retumba, Friends of Brook

Park, Servicio Basico Educativo, Standing in our Power and Green Workers Cooperative for creating and visioning

    with us.

Below are our notes with actions: This is an unfortunate situation that will requ

ire a team and multiple strategies. We have created an action plan with velocity:

    1. Urban J ustice Center is supporting us with responding to the 30 day notice.

    2. The space is a project of housing and an agreement was entered into by managing a

gent and city requiring all basements on the block be for community.

    a. Research on the law and project name

    b. Tenants are in action to get in communication with folks who have access to the doc

    uments stating the agreement

    3. Meet with J osue Velazquez and hold him to accountable to the community and tenants.

    4. Organized action to keep the space and all healing, arts, cultural, and safe spaces open in the community.

    5. Create Collaboration and partnership with other organizations throughout the city organizing on housing issues.

    6. Contact local politicians to support continuing the legacy of safe spaces in the South Bronx.

    The Impact

After working out of donated space in East Harlem, Casa found a home

in Mott Haven in 1998; since then we have been providing, young and

adult women leadership and empowerment workshops, healing circles

and retreats, reproductive health classes and anti violence services to ge

nerations of families. The impact of the request to move out of the spac

e is that womyn and children will not have access to a home outside the

ir home, a holistic safe that has provided a respite for over 10,000 wom

en and organizations nationally. The loss of a much needed space looseto heal from their experience of violence, poverty and oppression and

empower themselves to create health and well-being in their lives and their community

The Request and Actions to support right now:

We request your support to strategize on next steps and save the space.

Write a letter of support and contact your allies and comrades to mobilize

    them to support our efforts

Join us at our next meeting on April 15th from 6pm-8pm @ CASA

Contact political leaders and community leaders inviting them to our nextmeetings . The community of the South Bronx cannot afford to lose yet anothe

r life, another resource or another safe space. With Love, Peace, Freedom and Ease, Sharim Algarin-Morris, Executive
