Canterbury Boys’ High School Open Day One of our major local schools, Canterbury Boys’ High School, We will be holding our Open Day for prospective parents on Saturday 28th February 2015. 9am-12 noon. Canterbury Boys’ is building a reputation rapidly for it’s fine educational programs. We strongly commend this day to you if you have a boy who will be looking for a high school in the next few years. Canterbury Boys are hosting our Years 4 and 5 next Tuesday to give them an experience of high school – so the relationship between our two schools is important to us.

ROSE Awards Scheme and “Good Workers” TABLE This table is in the Newsletter every week and shows which students have achieved a

special level in our ROSE (Respecting Our School & Each other) awards program or have been noted for a really great effort in class – or have done some fantastic handwriting. The following students have achieved a higher level on the ROSE program or they have come to the Principal to show their excellent work. When they come to see me, they get a sticker for their good work – and a stamp on their forehead, their nose, their cheek or their chin. SO – if your child comes home with a stamp from the Principal – tell them how proud and pleased you are! Congratulations to these students:

Sculpture By The Sea – Stage 2 Excursion This annual event attracts thousands of visitors to the eastern suburbs. How lucky was our Stage 2 to go on this excursion (thanks Mrs Wales!). A sculpture related to our People and Their Beliefs unit of work Sculpture related to last term’s mini beast unit

CLASS Good Works & Handwriting KB Ruth and Joshua for great writing and pictures.

Just Joshing This is the section for jokes and riddles. Send your best jokes and riddles to put in the school Newsletter. Put your jokes into the suggestion box in the school office – or send them to the school email ([email protected]) with the subject line “newsletter jokes”.

Boy says to Girl, "Why are you talking into that envelope ?" She says: "I'm sending a voicemail." 19 Boys go to the cinema. The ticket lady asks "Why so many of you?" Boy 1 replies, "The sign says it’s 18 or over." My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and they were $12! Blow this, I thought, I can get one cheaper off the web. I was at an ATM yesterday when a little old lady asked if I could check her balance – When I pushed her, she fell over ! I start a new job in Seoul next week. I thought it was a good Korea move.

Harcourt School Bags/Back-Packs. At the next P&C meeting we will be demonstrating a backpack school bag and trying to establish whether there is interest in going ahead with an order for Harcourt bags. If you are interested, come to the next P&C meeting.

Christmas is nearly here! Order forms went home today for you to purchase puddings, Christmas cakes, fruit mince tarts and gingerbread Christmas trees. Please make sure your money and order are at school by November 26th. The goods will be delivered and distributed on December 3rd.

High School Work Experience Over the next few weeks we have a number of high school students at Harcourt on work experience. They will be working along-side our teachers to learn a little about what it is to be a primary teacher. We welcome them here and wish them an enjoyable work experience.

Deloitte Impact Day Over several years the Deloitte company has donated the services of their staff to assist Harcourt on what they call “Impact Day”. The fact is that the impact on Harcourt will be significant. We will have a dozen pairs of hands helping to weed our gardens and to move our mulch. The school will be a much better place for their involvement and we are deeply in their debt.

Year 6 Present to Harcourt Year 6 is looking at developing the garden that currently contains some ratty plumbago – and not much else. Their plans sound exciting and we look forward to seeing this garden (near the eastern hall doors) develop. 2014 Fun Day You know the end of the year is coming when we start to talk about our Fun Day. This year the day is on Tuesday December 16. The students will have jumping castles, petting zoos, entertainment and LOADS of activities. The canteen will be selling a special lunch. Can’t wait – and families are welcome to attend the day (but brothers and sisters can’t go on/to the activities).

Kindergarten Bush Christmas Wednesday next week our Kindergarten will be having a “bush Christmas” event. The students will have the opportunity to make arts and crafts around a bush Christmas theme.

Campsie RSL Citizenship Awards and Burwood Rotary Citizenship Awards Each year we receive support from local clubs to reward students who have been outstanding citizens. On Monday next week Felicia Le and RajTaware will receive awards at Burwood RSL presented by the Burwood Rotary club. Then on Thursday our school captains for 2014, Stephanie and Paul, will receive citizenship awards from the Campsie RSL. All four students can be proud of their contributions at Harcourt. We will miss them when they go to high school – but hope they enjoy the experiences they will have next week.

Creative Arts Day at Lakemba PS Next Thursday we will take a team of nine students to participate in a creative arts day at Lakemba Public School. We are hoping that this is the first of many events we will share with Lakemba. Photos of the products the students make will be in our next newsletter. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Community Message for Parents/Carers of Year 6 This message is placed on behalf of the Year 6 parents. This is NOT a school initiative. As you are aware the Year 6 farewell dinner is being held at Canterbury Leagues Club on Tuesday 9th December, 2014. Parents are invited to attend a short presentation at 5.30pm. All students will be presented with their graduation certificate. We would like to invite all parents/carers and family members to a dinner after the presentation. The bistro has a warm and friendly family atmosphere. It is a great opportunity to mix and mingle with other parents to a very affordable price.

We would appreciate if you could let me know by the 28th November, so we can book at table or tables. We hate for you to miss out, on this special occasion for our kids to say goodbye to our “Harcourt Children/Family”.
