We have a pupil free day on Friday April 20th.

ANZAC Day Public Holiday

The ANZAC Day public holiday occurs on Wednesday April 25th. Students do not attend

school on this day. We will be having an ANZAC Day ceremony on Tuesday afternoon at

2.45 on the basketball court. Students will be dismissed from the basketball court. Our

office area have ANZAC Day badges available for purchase.

Prep Enrolments

Our Prep enrolments are flying at the moment. If you have a child who is starting

School Works

Over the holidays we placed artificial turf in the area next to FHP. The students love it!

We will place some play equipment in this area shortly. We also installed 5 table tennis

tables in the area next to the CAT space. The children have enjoyed this new addition

to our school. I would like to thank our fundraising team and school council for their

National Young Leaders Day

At the end of last term the grade 6 leadership team went to the Melbourne Convention centre in the

city, to hear some inspirational Australians speak about how they got over their hurdles in life. They told

us what makes a good leader and that wearing the badge comes with responsibilities.

Cosentino, the magician from Australia’s Got Talent, told us that whatever you are going through in life

you can get through if you never lose hope.

John Coutis was unfortunately born without the use of his legs. He explained that you should always

have a good attitude no matter what happens and that you control your actions and it is up to you to

make good choices.

Harrison Craig, winner of ‘The Voice’ in 2013, explained that you should never let your challenges stop

you. For example, he used to stutter when he spoke but he kept practising and eventually got over his

debilitating stutter.

Emma Triscari, speedy left hand bowler from the ‘Melbourne Stars’ had her ups and downs. Her cricket

contract from WA was cancelled but she didn’t give up. She kept on going. One of her important mottos

was error equals opportunity for correction.

On the way home we stopped at a small store by the name of Sugar Station to replenish our energy.

All the student leaders were inspired by the 4 speakers and learnt a lot about leadership and persistence.

By Sarah and Madisyn on behalf of the Grade 6 Leadership Team

Information for Parents

NAPLAN 2018 tests will be held on Tuesday 15th, Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th May.

NAPLAN is a valuable assessment tool for governments, schools and parents to understand

and improve the Literacy and Numeracy outcomes of Australian students.

NAPLAN provides parents of students in Years 3/5/7/9 with a report on their child’s perfor-

mance in literacy and numeracy against the national average. Schools and teachers use

NAPLAN data to improve teaching and learning programs in the classroom.

Later in the year, you will receive your child’s personal NAPLAN report.

For more information about NAPLAN, please visit VCAA website at www.vcaa.vic.edu.au
