AutoCad Base Map Corrections

This project introduced basic AutoCad skills. In this project, we were to correct 12 mistakes on the map provided and it was to look like the correct version of the map, which was also provided. I found this project to be fairly easy and worthwhile. It helped in reinforcing the basic skills that would be necesary in order to complete the other Au-toCad projects of the semester.

AutoCad Raster Image

In this project, we learned about how raster images work. We were insert a raster image, scale and rotate the image, and then use line commands to trace the contour lines. I also found this to be a worthwhile project. I felt this one was especially important because the skills learned here came in very handy while working on the Midterm Project!

AutoCad Detailed DrawingIn this project, we were to complete a construction drawing in AutoCad based on an image provided. Specifically, we were to fill in all hatches, measurements, and labels. I liked this project because it helped demonstrate AutoCad’s usefulness. It helped me get a sense of what architects do when they create drawings like this one.

AutoCad Cross Section DrawingIn this project, we were to draw a cross section based on the plan provided. I found this project a bit difficult, but still enjoyable. I am glad I took the time to do it well, because the cross section was a big part of the Midterm project, so having the skills to successfully pull one off made it easy to do later on.

AutoCad House DrawingThis was the Midterm project of the class. We were to use all of the skills we had accquired in AutoCad to: Import an image of a house floor plan, scale and rotate it as necessary, trace an outline of the plan, import specific images onto the plan, and complete a cross section with a hatch. This project took a considerable amount of time for me to com-plete, mainly because I started off making it much harder than it needed to be. Still, it was easily one of my favorite projects of this class as I found it awesome to have completed an AutoCad drawing with such detail! It truly made me feel like an architect completing a drawing for a house that was to be built!

Snow White & the Dwarves in PhotoshopThis project introduced us to Photoshop. We utilized the basic functions of coloring, using the paint bucket, and creating layers using the Magic Wand tool to color images of Snow White and the 7 Dwarves from the beloved Dis-ney film of the same name. This was another favorite project of mine. It was cool using Photoshop in an artistic way, even if it was just basic coloring.

Facility Drawing in PhotoshopThis project delved more into the uses of Photoshop. We used layers to color in the different elements of a drawing of a facility. We then used Filters amd Layer styles to add depth to the drawing and give it a more realistic aspect. I had fun with this project because it was the first time I gave any sort of 2-D drawing a more 3-D feeling.

Image Manipulation in PhotoshopOur lessons about Photoshop really started to take off here! For this project, we imported images of people, cars, trees, and skies. We then scaled and placed them as appropriate, according to the provided AutoCad cross section. This project was also a little difficult for me. It took time for me to master using the Magic Wand and Lasso tools to get only the parts of an image that I wanted. Once I did, however, then project became very enjoyable!

Color Manipulation in Photoshop

This project consisted of 3 main parts. The first involved using the Replace Color tool to change the colors of one drawing. The second part made use of several rendering tools to creatively color the second image. In the final part, we were to import both original images and both our new ones onto one title block. This was another one of my fa-vorite projects because I really enjoyed how the second image required using many tools in order to give it depth! My favorite aspect of this part was using the special grass and leaves brushes to color the ground and trees respectively!

Google SketchUp HouseIf I had to pick one project this semester as my favorite this one’s definitely the one! In this project, we used Google SketchUp to import our 2-D house floor plans we made in AutoCad for the Midterm. We then used basic commands to transform the house into a 3-D object. Afterwards, more basic commands were used for drawing a roof and win-dows. The Paint tool was used to color the house and lawn. Finally, we made use of the image warehouse to import images of doors, lansdscaping, cars, and the like. I had a lot of fun with this one! It could be a little fustrating at times, but I felt it was all worth it! I feel accomplished having created a 3-D model of a house utilizing a computer program! I have no doubt that the skills I acquired while doing this project will serve me well as an urban planner!
