are enthusiastic about the new facilities. The installation of a turf playing surface on Patterson

Field, together with the resurfacing of the track and other much needed improvements, cost the

College approximately $2,500,000. A $1 million lead gift was pledged to kick off this project.

equity in recruiting and a consistent playing surface for our

athletes to compete.”

Student Athletes: A Success Story at UrsinusAt Ursinus today, more than 600 of the 1,700 students participate on one of our 25 intercollegiate teams. Ursinus athletes win championships and compete in post-season play, distinguishing themselves and the College’s commitment to opportunities and excellence in the Centennial Conference. Ursinus has a long tradition of excellence in Division III sports. The Centennial Conference is widely recognized as the premier academic conference in the Mid-Atlantic States. Beyond the intercollegiate athletics program, nearly 300 students participate in intramural competitions each year.

Ursinus Commitment to AthleticsThe College has invested more than $18,000,000 over the last decade to create premier indoor practice and competition facilities. The new Floy Lewis Bakes Field House, the renovated Helfferich Gymnasium, and the newly constructed baseball field have all played host to Centennial Conference, ECAC, and NCAA Championship play. In addition, the Eleanor Frost Snell Turf Field has put Ursinus in the national spotlight, helping our field hockey team capture the NCAA Championship in 2006, as well as serving as the host venue for the event on two separate occasions.

• Artificial turf has become integral to the current culture of collegiate football and lacrosse (men’s and women’s). With the exception of Bryn Mawr College on the women’s side, every Centennial Conference institution competes on artificial turf in the sports of football and/or men’s and women’s lacrosse. • The NCAA now permits fall and spring teams to compete in a non-traditional season. While this is a great opportunity for students and teams to compete year round, the current grass facilities cannot continue to accommodate this constant use. • The project includes a new grass field dedicated to club sports such as, rugby, which has nearly 100 men and women students participating. • The resurfaced track along with upgraded field event locations will allow the College to breathe new life into a facility that has been a part of the Ursinus landscape since the 1930’s. The ability to host home track and field competitions is now a reality. • The expanded Patterson Field turf and stadium improvement project will give Ursinus a competitive edge to recruit student athletes and students in general. The new turf field for football and lacrosse will provide our student athletes with the best resources for competitive play in the Centennial Conference.
