US HISTORY COURSE SYLLABUS (Mr. Fortmann/Room 150) INTRODUCTION: My name is Mr. Fortmann and welcome to U.S. History. American History is one big, and if done properly, one very exciting story about us. I will act as your storyteller throughout the upcoming year. This course is intended to be a broad survey of American History from approximately the completion of Revolutionary War to issues that we face as a people today. It is my intention to explore the vast economic, political, and social changes that took place in our nation during this time period. I also hope to analyze how our past as a nation has molded present day America and look at where we may be headed as a people in the future. One of my main goals as your teacher is helping you to succeed in U.S. History. If you are having any problems in this class, please come and see me as soon as possible. CLASSWORK/GRADES: Your individual grade will be made up of two components each worth 50%. The first will be class work assigned. This includes all class activities, group work, projects, and yes HOMEWORK. The second component of your grade will be unit quizzes. These will test your mastery of the content covered throughout a particular unit. ***NOTE: Class participation is a must for our year to be successful.
