US Sports represents between 10-20% of a Sportsbook’s turnover dependant on Operator location. However, most Operators will tell you that their % of turnover versus the % of revenues from US sports is far from identical. Why is that?

Sheer number of events leads to 3rd party reliance which in itself is no bad thing but the 3rd party must be robust and reliable. Poor model based pricing, particularly in play models. US Sports cannot be fully automated and needs manual intervention to manage the nuances of the games i.e. fouls, time outs etc. Data Latency creating model inefficiency, the speed and quality of the data that powers the model must be faultless.

Background The popularity of US Sports, (NFL, NHL, MLB and NBA) as a betting medium continues to grow. The timing of the events from a European perspective and increased TV coverage is driving that popularity. The pace of the US Sports matches with several breaks in play are perfect for in play propositions.

Commercial Model In the current landscape, Operators compete on product much more than on price. Operators need additional content and know that it must be automated to be scalable. Metric will charge Operators on a flat fee or a flat fee and revenue share dependent on their size. Operators are encouraged to begin with Super Live content which is currently available and add additional content as it becomes available through 2017.
