The Myself® Trainer was designed by a urologist and is clinically proven* to help you strengthen your pelvic fl oor muscles easily and effectively. Strong pelvic muscles help women achieve better bladder control, faster recovery after childbirth, and improved

vaginal tone.

When pelvic fl oor muscles are weak, involuntary urine leaks can occur. This is common among women of all ages, often happening when you laugh, cough, sneeze

or engage in physical activities such as jogging or heavy lifting. Weak pelvic fl oor muscles can also contribute to frequent urges to urinate.

Effectively strengthening these muscles on your own can be diffi cult. The Myself® Trainer helps you strengthen your pelvic fl oor muscles more effectively by guiding you through a 5 minute per day Kegel exercise session, indicating when to squeeze and when to relax by displaying visual cues on its full color display.

Just as it takes time to strengthen other muscles in your body, it takes time, good form and consistent exercise to strengthen your pelvic fl oor.

“Just 5 minutes a daycan make a difference ingetting you back to doing

the things you love to do.”

Controlling Urinary Incontinence

It is common to use the wrong muscles when doing Kegel exercises. Instead of using the pelvic muscles, many women use their back, abdominal, or upper leg muscles. If you use the wrong muscles, you may not see the full benefi ts. To make sure you are using the right muscles, try the following:

Stop the fl ow of urine while you’re going to the bathroom. You should be able to feel your muscles tighten and move upward. Then relax your muscles and feel your muscles move down to the starting position.

Once you have found the right muscles to use, do not perform Kegels while urinating.

Doing Kegel exercises with a full bladder or while emptying your bladder can actually weaken the muscles. It can also lead to incomplete emptying of the bladder, which may increase your risk of a urinary tract infection.

“Here are some helpful hints!”

“Things to remember when using The Myself® Trainer:”

The Myself® Trainer will guide you through a simple 5-minute pelvic muscle exercise regimen. You will fi rst do a series of twelve 10-second SQUEEZE and 10-second

RELAX exercises, followed by one minute of rapid SQUEEZE and RELAX exercises. The Myself® Trainer will track your strength level over time to let you know that you are improving.

Getting Started

Summary

About Strength Levels:The Myself® Trainer has three Strength Levels. When you have achievedand maintained the maximum strength at Level 1 for four successive sessions, you will automatically be moved to the next level. Also, If you do not maintain the minimum strength level, you will be returned to a previous level so you can work your way back up.

How it worksKegel exercises involve a lifting and squeezing action of the pelvic fl oor muscles. The Myself® Trainer displays your muscle contraction graphically. The stronger you squeeze your muscles, the greater the number of bands that move inward on the display.

To help isolate your pelvic muscles, you should concentrate on squeezing and lifting your muscles WITHOUT:

Pulling in your abdominal muscles Squeezing your legs together Tightening your buttocks Holding your breath

By avoiding these actions, you can properly isolate the pelvic fl oor muscles.

3 The “RELAX” cue will appear on the display. Relax your muscles while the timer bar at the bottom of the display counts to 10. Try not to squeeze at all during this time.

Note: If you are not relaxed, Relax Muscles will fl ash.

4 Repeat the “SQUEEZE” and “RELAX” exercises along with The Myself® Trainer for 12 repetitions.

Note: If your session is interrupted, defl ate your sensor by disconnecting the tubing between the sensor and The Myself® Trainer and begin again.

Hint: Pay attention to how the sensor moves while you are squeezing. When you are performing the exercise properly you should feel as if you are drawing the sensor inward slightly. If you feel the sensor moving outward you are most likely using your stomach muscles instead of your pelvic muscles.

“It’s time to start squeezing. Focus, you can do it…

it’s only 5 minutes.” 1 A 5-second countdown will begin (as shown by the

timer bar), and the screen will ask you to:

PREPARE: Take a deep breath Exhale Relax your abdomen

Note: Try not to squeeze while the Prepare screen is displayed.

2 The “SQUEEZE” cue will appear in the display window and the timer bar at the bottom of the display will display a 10 second countdown.

Contract your pelvic muscles as tightly as you can and hold, trying to move more bands inward on the display.

Remember to: Relax your legs and buttocks… Breathe in and out… Visualize drawing the sensor inward with each squeeze.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I do the exercises?

We recommend you use The Myself® Trainer once a day at first, increasing to twice a day as your strength improves. However it is important not to fatigue your muscles by doing too much too quickly.

As with any strengthening program you will need to continue your exercises to maintain your muscle strength.

Note: one exercise session is 5 minutes long. If you do more than one session a day, be sure to allow adequate time (3 to 4 hours) for your muscles to rest between sessions.

FAQs

Why is there such a long “Relax” period during the first set of exercises?

Mastering the control to relax the pelvic floor muscles is just as important as the ability to squeeze and hold. It is important to rest these muscles in between contractions in order to keep from fatiguing these muscles.

Why is it important to do quick contractions?

Can I use The Myself® Trainer during my period?

Why does the disconnect message flash on the screen during my exercise session?

Quick contractions provide strength necessary to control urinary incontinence during a sneeze, cough, laugh or when you step out into the cold.

This is a personal decision. It is not harmful to use The Myself® Trainer during menses. Just be sure to thoroughly clean the sensor after use.

The sensor is over inflated. Disconnect the sensor tubing from the back of the display unit to deflate, follow pumping cues on the display and begin the 5 minute exercise session again.

What benefi ts will I get from strengthening my pelvic fl oor muscles?

How can I tell if I am doing the exercise correctly?

Prevention or signifi cant improvement of urinary incontinence Strengthening and toning of the pelvic fl oor muscles before or after childbirth Prevention of pelvic organ relaxation Increased sexual pleasure, vaginal tone, moisture and response

One way to know that you are performing the exercise correctly is through the use of the sensor handle.

Hold the sensor handle when you start your exercise. Pay attention to how the sensor moves while you are squeezing. When you are performing the exercise properly you should feel as if you are drawing the sensor inward slightly. If you feel the sensor moving outward you are most likely using your stomach muscles instead of your pelvic muscles. If the sensor is remaining still or is pulling inward slightly then you are using the correct muscles.

What are the most common causes of pelvic fl oor weakness?

Pregnancy and vaginal childbirth High impact exercises such as running Hormonal changes during menopause Excessive body weightStraining from chronic constipation Smoking and chronic coughing
