Magazines usually use celebrities as a main selling point for their magazine. This is effective because many people idolise

celebrities and enjoy following their lives as it makes them feel like they have a connection

with the celebrity used. This is useful for magazine companies as it is likely that the people who idolise the featured model will

purchase the magazine in order to see what they can find out about them that they didn’t already know. Celebrities are usually featured on the front cover of a magazine when they

have just released new material therefore their fans will purchase the magazine to find out

about their new releases.

WHY AND WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR

As many people especially teenage girls look up to celebrities many magazines will use

them as an opportunity to sell other items like clothing and make up. This is effective as girls

who idolise a celebrity are likely to want to dress similar to them as they look up to them. It is common that fans follow every aspect of a celebrities life so the music that they make will

not be the only attraction. This enables magazines companies to start contracts with

high street shops like River Island and Topshop that make similar clothes to the ones

celebrities wear but at an affordable price.
