Apparatus features and warranty

Your ATLAS ELVOR elevator was designed and built in accordance with the current

Canadian standard CSA/B355-00. This apparatus is designed to carry one person in a

wheelchair or one person in a wheelchair with one helper. This elevator has the

following features:

 It can carry up to 340 kg (750 lbs)

 Operating speed: 0,12 m/s (24 fpm)

 The platform is driven by a hydraulic cylinder, assisted by 2 aircraft-grade steel

cables.

Warranty

This warranty covers the ELVOR elevator against defects resulting from normal use

on parts and labour for a period of one year from the date of installation by the

manufacturer or one of its distributors. Otherwise, the warranty takes effect at the date

of purchase.

Main components

6

Manual movement of the vehicle in an emergency

To manually move the elevator car in case of an emergency, perform the

following steps:

 Open the junction box located near the bottom landing door by removing

the screws;

 Pull on the manual release cable until the vehicle reaches the lowermost

landing door;

 Once the emergency situation resolved, securely close the junction box.

7

Parachute testing procedure

1. Perform the following steps to test the parachute mechanism:

 Load the elevator car with 940 pounds and block its down stroke

with a 2 x 4 wood beam, 1 meter long (39-1/2 inches);

 Lower the hydraulic cylinder by approximately 75mm (3inches) in

order to produce a cable slack of about 150mm (6 inches);

 Standing about 1 meter away from the car and using a piece of

wood, abruptly knock the 2x4 beam away. The elevator car should

come to a sudden stop within 60mm (2-3/8 inches) and a noticeable

slack should still be present in the cables.

2. Resetting the parachute:

 Use an alligator clip as a jumper between the number 58 and 59

terminals;

 Reset the fault on the Zelio logic relay by pressing the no. 4 key;

 Raise the elevator vehicle to restore cable tension.;

 Reset the parachute switch on the right side of the tower;

 REMOVE THE ALLIGATOR CLIP.

8

Battery charger test procedure

This apparatus is equipped with a charger for each one of the 2 batteries. To check

each of the chargers, perform the following steps:

 Disconnect the 2 chargers from the 120 volts AC outlet;

 Perform 3 to 6 platform cycles in order to partially discharge the batteries;

 Make sure that each charger is correctly connected to its corresponding battery:

red connector to the positive terminal and the black connector to the negative

battery terminal;

 Connect each charger to the AC outlet. Both chargers should now have the red

indicator light on;

 Connect an ammeter to the red wire of the charger to be tested, in series with

the positive terminal of the battery it is connected to;

 If the measured current is over 0,5 amps, the charger is working properly;

 When the battery is fully charged, the indicator light should remain off.

Protection circuit (redundancy) testing procedure

The following document describes the testing of the protection circuit in case

of failure (REDUNDANCY) of the elevator platform. This information is to be

used exclusively by a qualified service technician, accredited by Atlas

Escalators Inc.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING TESTING

PROCEDURES WILL PRODUCE MOVEMENTS OF

THE APPARATUS. MAKE SURE NO ONE IS

STANDING BELOW OR ON THE ELEVATOR

PLATFORM WHILE PERFORMING THESE TESTS.

TESTING OF THE ACTIVE SECURITY

To execute this part of the procedure, remove the front face plate of the

elevator platform (EPF), if applicable, and open the panel of the BEC01Z3

controller.

C1 contactor (Main)

To check for the proper functioning of the C1 contactor’s active security,

perform the following procedure:

1. Using a screwdriver, push in and hold the C1 contactor plunger;

2. After 1.5 seconds, the ZELIO will fall in Fault Mode (the number 8 output

indicator will switch to inverted display).

3. Reset the fault by pressing the Z4 key on the Zelio.

4. Command an UP movement of the platform. The moment the movement

begins, keep the C1 contactor plunger depressed with a screwdriver and

10

press the Emergency Stop button. The EPF should come to a stop

rapidly. Release the UP button, the contactor and the Emergency Stop

button.

5. If the ZELIO falls in Fault Mode, reset the fault by pressing the Z4 key.

6. Disconnect the wire at the IG connector on the C1 contactor.

7. Press the UP button of the EPF. The ZELIO must fall in Fault Mode.

8. Reconnect the wire at the IG connector on the C1 contactor.

9. Reset the fault by pressing the Z4 key on the Zelio.

M1 contactor (UP movement)

To check for the proper functioning of the M1 contactor’s active security,

perform the following procedure (make sure the elevator car is not at its

uppermost position):

1. Using a screwdriver, press down and hold the M1 contactor plunger.

2. Briefly press the UP button.

3. After 1.5 seconds, the ZELIO will fall in Fault Mode.

4. Reset the fault by pressing the Z4 key on the Zelio.

5. Command an UP movement of the platform. The moment the movement

begins, keep the M1 contactor plunger depressed with a screwdriver

and press the Emergency Stop button. The EPF should come to a stop

rapidly. Release the UP button, the contactor and the Emergency Stop

button.

6. If the ZELIO falls in Fault Mode, reset the fault by pressing the Z4 key.

7. Disconnect the wire from IC connector on the M1 contactor.

8. Press the UP button of the EPF. The ZELIO should fall in Fault Mode.

9. Reconnect the wire in the IC connector on the M1 contactor.

10. Reset the fault by pressing the Z4 key on the Zelio.

11

Descent solenoid.

To check for the proper functioning of the descent solenoid, perform the

following procedure:

1. Make sure the elevator car is at its uppermost position (furthest possible

position from the bottom landing door).

2. Adjust down the descent speed rate. (Adjust to initial speed after tests).

3. Install an 18 gauge (or thicker) jumper wire between the number 60 and

66 terminals (therefore applying 24 DC volts to the solenoid coil).

4. Once the elevator car begins to drop down, press on the Emergency

Button. The car should stop very quickly and the ZELIO falls in Fault

Mode.

5. Remove the jumper wire from the number 60 and 66 terminals.

6. Reset the fault by pressing the Z4 key on the ZELIO.

7. Disconnect the wire at the number 63 terminal on the ZELIO.

8. Press the DOWN button of the EPF. The down movement should start

then stop after about 0.5 seconds and the ZELIO will fall in Fault Mode

(the number 8 output indicator will switch to inverted display).

9. Reconnect the wire on the number 63 terminal.

10. Reset the fault by pressing the Z4 key on the ZELIO.

Grounding check.

This last test is to make sure the fuses will do their work in the event of a short circuit to any of the electrical components in the system. Attach a lead wire from an ohmmeter on the main ground terminal inside the BEC01Z3 panel, and with the other lead wire check that there is continuity (less than 0.3 ohm) between the ground terminal and all other metal surfaces near the safety switches or control buttons of the apparatus (panel back plate, near the parachute and cable slack switches, extreme limit, etc.). If neither of these checking procedures produce inconclusive results, contact ATLAS ESCALTORS’ service department for the next course of action to correct the issue.

12

Owner-performed maintenance and troubleshooting Only a qualified professional technician may install and service the technical aspects

of this equipment. However, the owner is authorised to perform the following

maintenance described below:

 Clean your ATLAS ELVOR elevator with a humid cloth and avoid scratches to

the painted surfaces in order to preserve its “as new” appearance.

 In the event of a grid power failure, use the apparatus sparingly in order to

avoid drainage of the backup batteries. The batteries will provide enough power

for approximately 20 cycles (1 cycle = 1 up or 1 down movement of the

platform).

 Any abnormalities, mainly oil leaks or unusual noise must immediately be

reported to the manufacturer, its local distributor or to a qualified professional

service technician.

Problem

The elevator platform is not responding to the control buttons.

Verification In order to troubleshoot your elevator, check the probable causes listed in the table

below and apply the corresponding solution(s). If none of the provided solutions solve

the issue, call the manufacturer or the distributor of your unit.

CAUSE SOLUTION

Grid power failure (batteries charge

depleted, if so equipped)

13

Professional maintenance of

the elevator

14

During the maintenance of the ELVOR-00 elevator, check the following elements and

perform the necessary corrections as required.

Every 6 months

VEHICLE

 Free operation of the control buttons;

 Telephone working condition;

 Emergency lighting. By cutting off the power with the main switch, the

emergency lights must come on;

 Alarm operating condition;

 Check the auto-levelling tolerances in case of an improperly closed

landing door by performing the following steps:

1. Make sure the elevator car is located at any landing other than the

bottom one;

2. Block the door interlock arm at the unlocked position;

3. Press the UP or DOWN button;

4. If the auto-leveller is working properly, it should bring the vehicle

back flush to the landing floor before it can travel more than 100mm

(4 inches).

5. If the previous step failed, adjust the levelling limit switch of the

auto-leveller and repeat the test until the cabin floor and the door

landing levels are flush, whether the car moves up or down.

BUGGIES

 Tightening of the 3/8-16NC bolts;

 Vibration during travel;

 Wheel squeaking.

NOTE: Inspect the parachute mechanism after performing the testing procedure

described on page 7.

15

HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT

 General condition of the hoses;

 Tightness of all connectors;

 Perform several cycles in order to check for fluid leak from the cylinder;

 Cleanliness of the hydraulic pump;

 The oil quantity that can be seen through the translucent tank should

measure between 280mm and 360mm (11 to 14 inches) for the large

tank, and 180mm to 250mm (7 to 10 inches) on small tanks. Should it be

necessary to refill the pump with more than 2 litres of oil, defective parts

need to be replaced (use OEM parts only).

 Check the auto-levelling in case of oil leaks by performing the following

steps:

1. Make sure the elevator car is located at any landing other than the

bottom one;

2. Using the manual release mechanism to simulate an oil leakage, very

slowly allow the vehicle to travel down for about 20mm (3/4 inch);

3. After stopping the manual release, if the auto-leveller is working

properly, the car should be brought back up to the landing door;

4. If step 3 fails, there could be a conflict between the normal landing

stop limit switch and the lower levelling switch of the auto-leveller;

5. Make sure the normal landing stop limit switch is released before the

levelling limit switch of the auto-leveller is triggered;

6. If step 3 still fails, adjust the lower limit switch of the auto-leveller;

7. Repeat the same procedure for all landings except the bottom one.

BATTERIES

 General cleanliness;

 Terminals free of corrosion and well tightened.

PROTECTION CIRCUIT (also see annual inspection)

 Perform the system check according to procedures described on page 9.

 Cleanliness of the contactors.

LANDING DOORS  Lubricate the axle on the door interlock;

 Make sure the door closer (gas cylinder) is working properly;

 Door level is adequate;

 Clean door windows.

16

Every 12 months

CABLES AND PULLEYS

 General condition of the pulley grooves;

 Tightness of the 1/2-13 eye bolt nuts;

 Replace both cables if either of the following conditions is found on

either one of the cables:

 Cable diameter is less than 5.7mm (15/64)

 Corrosion presence

 More than one strand is broken

NOTE: 1. Check for the lowering of the vehicle in an emergency situation such

as the procedure described on page 6;

2. Use aircraft-grade, galvanized steel cable 7x19, 1/4" diameter, 7000

lbs mechanical strength. Use AOS-014 (aluminum cable clamps).

CONTROLLER  Cleanliness;

 Connections well tightened at all terminals;

 General wire condition;

 Perform the protection circuit system check described on page 9;

 Cleanliness of the contactors.

LIMIT SWITCHES  General working condition;

 Positioning at landing levels;

LIMIT STOP  Position in relation to the uppermost landing;

 Bolt tightness.

HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT Check the waste gate:

 Close the valve on the line going into the cylinder;

 Install a pressure gauge at the inlet provided for this purpose;

 Run the pump for a few seconds;

 If the measured pressure is not between 7.93 and 8.62 MPa (1150 and

1250 psi) for a large tank, or 15.17 and 15.86 MPa (2200 and 2300

psi) for small tanks, replace the hydraulic pump.

 Perform a few travel cycles to check for oil leaks from the cylinder;

 Check the pressure switch by performing the following procedure:

1. Block the elevator car’s down movement

2. Press the DOWN button

17

3. The hydraulic cylinder must stop descending before the cable slack

switches get activated. If this step is successful, ignore the rest of the

steps.

4. If the cable slack switches stop the cylinder’s descent, adjust the

pressure switch by turning the red button counter clockwise;

5. Insert a jumper between the number 58 and 59 terminals;

6. Reset the parachute switches by pressing the number 4 key on the

ZELIO.

7. Press the UP button to restore cable tension;

8. REMOVE THE JUMPER;

9. Repeat all 8 steps until the number 3 step is successful.
