Recommendations for electrical testingintruments

Rel-U/0048

Preventive measures for high voltage As the voltage of the test can reach 5 kV, a risk of electric shock has to be taken into account.ATEQ recommends the following for the operators protection :

• the use of a bi-manual remotecontrol with a coincidence relay,

• the clear delimitation of the safetyzone (floor marking, warninglight…) around the test area or theuse of a protection bell over the testpart.

Precautions on the test environment • Let the test area dry and clean, free from explosive gas.

Precautions on the operators • ATEQ recommends that the operators using the instruments should have a suitable

qualification and training with respect to the work bench requirements.

General precautions • Read the users manual before using

the instrument, • all electrical connections coming to

the instrument must be equippedwith a safety system (fuse, circuitbreaker…) adapted to the needs andadhering to the norms,

• to avoid electromagneticinterference, the cable connectionsto the instrument should be lessthan two meters in length,

• the electrical main supply mustabsolutely have proper earthing,

• disconnect the electrical

connections to the equipment formaintenance,

• do not open the instrument under

power voltage, • avoid water spillage in the direction

of the instrument, • ATEQ is at your disposal for any

further information concerning theuse of the instrument undermaximum safety conditions.

We would like to bring to your attention that ATEQ will not be held responsiblefor any accident connected to the improper use of the instrument, to the workbench or to the lack of compliance with safety rules.

ATEQ Company is free from any responsibility for any adjustment of itsinstrument which would not have been done by its own technicians.

ATEQ, THE ASSURANCE OF A COMPETENT AFTER SALES SERVICE

THE ATEQ AFTER SALES SERVICE IS : • a team of qualified technicians, • a permanent telephone assistance, • agencies close to you for faster reaction, • a stock of spare parts available immediately, • a car fleet for rapid intervention, • a commitment to quality ...

THE OVERHAUL ATEQ carries out the overhaul of your instruments at interesting prices. The overhaul corresponds to the maintenance of the instrument (checking, cleaning, replacing of used parts) as part of preventive maintenance. Preventive maintenance is the best way to guarantee reliability and efficiency. It allows the maintenance of a group of instruments in good operational order and prevent eventual break-downs.

MAINTENANCE KITS The ATEQ After Sales Service proposes, two kits destined for the preventive maintenance of the pneumatic circuits of instruments.

CALIBRATION This may be carried out on site or in our offices. ATEQ is attached to the COFRAC and delivers a certificate following a calibration.

TRAINING COURSES In the framework of partnership with our customers, ATEQ offers two types of training in order to optimise the usage and knowledge of our instruments. They are aimed at different levels of technician:

• method / control training, • maintenance / upkeep training.

A TARGETED TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION A number of technical documents are at your disposal to allow you to intervene rapidly in the event minor breakdowns:

• problem sheets describing and offering solutions to the main pneumatic and electronic problems,

• several maintenance manuals.

A QUALITY GUARANTEE The instruments are guaranteed for parts and labour in our offices:

• 2 years for leak detection equipment, • 1 year for electrical tests to norms instruments, • 1 year for the accessories.

Our After Sales Service is capable of rapidly answering all your needs and queries.

ATEQ recommends to made realise by its departments

a revision and a calibration of the instruments every year

2. CONNECTION EXAMPLES

2.1. WIRING REMINDER

The wiring of the test point is not shown in the diagrams. The transformer used must possess a galvanized insulation between the primary and secondary coils and between the secondary coil and the earth connection.

The relays used must be appropriate for their intended use (high voltage, power, high voltage and power).

The cross sectional size of the power supply cables, of the power cables and of the earth cables, is defined by the power supported and the current required to flow through them.

For an earth continuity test, when a large distance separates the instrument from the test part, it is necessary to take into consideration the impedance of the cables, in order to obtain accurate measurements. However it is advisable to use as short as possible cables.

The validation of the operator test is carried out on pins 11 and 12 of the J5 connector.

5. INPUTS/OUTPUTS TIMING CHARTS

In the goal of interfacing the ATEQ E with an instrument (robot, computer …), the timing charts below supply the electric output sequences (connectors J3 and J4) depending on the entry of commands into the front face or on the J2 and J5 connectors (START, RESET and programming of the program number). The time charts suggested depend directly on the position of the thumb wheel; it allows the selection of 2 cycle ends: automatic RESET or STOP.

For safety reasons, the Cycle start (START) button must be maintained in the pressed position for the duration of all high voltage tests (dielectric resistance, insulation resistance). For all the other tests an impulse of 50 ms (min) is enough to activate the START. The selection of the type of cycle end (Automatic RESET or STOP) can be done:

either by the program : RCD function (thumbwheel : cf. chap 4 §8), or thanks to an electric component found in the microprocessor board which is preset in the factory. This component also allows the definition of the end of cycle signal (maintained or 500 ms), respectively on either the even or odd positions of the electronic component.

The program function has the priority.

Standard casing The standard 3U 19'' rack-mounted, dimensions: 530 x 295 x 152 (mm), consists of a casing made of sections of formed and painted sheet metal. The removable frame, which contains the front panel, rests on lateral base supports in the case. It is secured to the casing with the aid of four screws, enabling fast access to the electronic part of the instrument. The frame has two compartments, separated by a horizontal metal sheet. The upper part of the casing possesses a removable cover secured with the aid of four screws. The access to the bottom part is possible only after the frame has been removed from the case by means of the four front panel screws. Instrument weight: 13 kg

Note: the simple version of the unit is a 19" 3 U rack mounted unit. Depending on demand and on the particular application, the unit can be supplied in multiple modules of 3 U units, all at 19".

3.3.14. Outputs code

OUTPUTSCODE

Output codes

Optional: this key is used to activate of from 1 to 4 relays at the start and for the whole duration of a cycle. The outputs of these relays are controlled via the intermediary of the J11 connector on the rear panel. The outputs are of dry type with a maximum current. Two choices are possible: fixed output codes, free output codes.

A. Fixed Output codes B. Free Output codes These output codes are programmed in a permanent way in the EPROM, as follows:

The operator can randomly choose 4 output codes amongst the 8.

1. available to the operator, 2. earth continuity, 3. insulation dielectric, 4. insulation, 5. leakage current "hot", 6. leakage current measure, 7. leakage current "cold", 8. available to the operator.

1) This relay can only be activated in the low-voltage function: eath continuity, leakage current. 8) This relay can only be activated in the high-voltage function: insulation, dielectric.

1. SEQUENCING FUNCTION

The sequencing function, common to a sequence, is used to enable the conditional sequencing of 8 tests using a non exclusive OR: The instrument goes to the next test if at least one of the selected conditions is satisfied. Note: when the sequencing function is activated, the stepwise function is implicitly deactivated.
