Introduction

The Punjab Technical University(PTU) was established in the year 1997 under The

Punjab Technical University Act, 1996 (Punjab Act No. 1 of 1997) to provide for the

establishment and incorporation of a University for the advancement of technical

education and development thereof in the State of Punjab and for matters

connected therewith. In pursuance of this Act, the University started its journey

with 09 engineering colleges and few management colleges affiliated to it. Since

then the University has come in a long way and during the Academic Session

2010-11, the University has affiliated 65 Engineering Colleges, 109 management

and Computer Application courses, 33 institutions imparting Pharmacy

education, 08 colleges imparting hotel management education, 06 colleges

providing Architecture Education and 11 Regional Centres for M.Tech and Ph.D.in different branches of Engineering and Management and 01 Regional Centre

for M. Pharmacy.

Punjab Technical University Jalandhar conducts Combined Entrance Test (CET

2010) for residents of Punjab (85% Category only) to make admissions to the first

year of B. Tech. / B.Pharm. courses being conducted in various

Colleges/Institutes/Universities under its umbrella.

Web based Online counseling for admissions to all Engineering/Pharmacy

degree courses being run in all type of institutions in the State, is being introducedfor the current academic session 2010-11.

Purpose

This document outlines the general operational counseling procedure for the

candidates i.e. how to register on the website, how to fill the choices and changethe order of choices, generation of provisional allotment letter after allotment etc.

Scope

The scope of the proposed web based counseling shall be applicable to all the

courses offered by following institutions as listed below.

i. Punjab Technical Universitys affiliated Engineering / PharmacyColleges / Institutions for Engineering & Technology / Pharmacy

Courses.

ii. Guru Nanak Dev University, Main Campus at Amritsar and its RegionalCampus at Jalandhar and Gurdaspur for Engineering Courses.

iii. Punjabi University, Main Campus at Patiala, its Regional Campus atGuru Ki Kashi, Talwandi Sabo and Rampura Phul (Phul-Mehraj) for

Engineering Courses.

iv. Punjab Agricultural University, College of Agricultural Engineering,Ludhiana for Engineering Courses

The Punjab state reservation policy, same as followed in engineering

degree courses, is followed for the admissions to pharmacy courses.

Objectives

Web based counseling for admissions to all courses, is being conducted with

following main objectives;

1 To bring in 100% transparency in seats allotment and admissions.2 To build strong public interface to minimize travel burden on

Candidates & their parents for counseling.

3 Providing enough time to counselees for submission, change,Delete, re-ordering of multiple choices from anywhere any time.

4 Availability of required information, queries, reports at differentLevels.

5 Centralized database and centralized monitoring.6 Paperless counseling7 Secured and controlled data access at every level.8 The advantage of web based on-line counseling is that the seat

vacated by previous candidate will be immediately allotted to the

next candidate in the merit, who has opted for it. Otherwise, in

physical counseling it is allotted in the subsequent allotments, the

meritorious candidate will be denied of his choice and the seat will

be allotted to a candidate, who is lower in the merit.

Pre requisite

Candidates having state of domicile Punjab will participate in B.E./B.Tech CET 85%

category FOR ENGINEERING SEATS and B.Pharma 85% for Pharmacy seats. All

candidates having State of Domicile as Punjab are not allowed to register under

AIEEE 15%(B.E/B.Tech) and B.Pharma(AIEEE 15%) in Ist round of 15% Counseling.

However after completion of 2nd round of 85% (CET ), Punjab students willing to

participate in 2nd round of 15% AIEEE Counseling can register using his AIEEE roll no

and Rank.

Counseling Fee

To participate in online counseling, every candidate (both 85% CET & 15% AIEEE),

irrespective of his/her category, will have to deposit a counseling fee. For more

details candidate should checkwww.ptu.ac.inand click on the linkPay Counselling FeeCET-2010

In case a candidate wish to participate in both Engineering and Pharmacy courses,

then he/she has to fill separate forms and deposit fees accordingly.

Note :

Candidate falling under 85% Category(i.e. having state of domicile as Punjab)should deposit fees using CET- 2010 Counseling fee deposit slip.

Candidate falling under 15% AIEEE category (having state of domicile otherthan Punjab) should deposit fees using AIEEE-2010 Counseling fee deposit slip.

Only those candidates will be able to participate in the counseling who havedeposited the counseling fee.

In no case candidate should deposit fees in both category. In 2nd round of AIEEE (15%) counseling, Punjab candidates are also

eligible to participate. For this, he/she has to pay fees separately.

Operations procedure of Web Interface for Candidate Module:

To participate in counseling, it is mandatory for every candidate to register

himself/herself on the counseling website having http://www.ptuadmissions.nic.inor

http://ptuadmissions.nic.in . The candidate is required to fill in the Roll no., Rank,

Name and date of birth in the following screen:

The system will crosscheck the information with Bank Fee data. In case system does

not find any record in Bank fee data, it will not allow the candidate to proceed

further; otherwise, the following screen will be displayed in which the candidate is

required to enter the details as per the screen shot shown below:

Once the candidate clicks the submit button, system shows a confirmation screen

and candidate will be granted user ID (candidates Roll No.) and password (which

the candidate filled during registration) using which he/she will be able to fill the

choices.

Following modules are available for candidates after registration:

a) Registration Details : Candidate can see his registration details by clicking on theoption Registration Details and edit the same by clicking the option Edit Registration

Details, if he has not yet confirmed the registration details.

Once a candidate clicks Confirm Registration Details, he/she will not be

able to edit it further. So it is advised that the candidate should carefully fill

all registration details and then confirm it.

Candidate should also note that without confirming registration details,

he/she will not be able to fill choices.

f)Change Password: The candidate can change his password by clicking on the

Student can view Category wise seat breakup available in an Institute,

h) Generation of Provisional Allotment Letter:

Candidate can print the Provisional seat allotment letter from the website, in

case he or she has been allotted a seat, after the allotment result has beenannounced.

The candidates are required to report to their respective allotted institutions

within the specified period (as per the counseling schedule) along with the

documents/testimonials/certificates/proof of deposition of Rs. 2500/- (for CET

candidates) and Rs. 3050/- (for AIEEE candidates) in the designated bank. If

candidate does not report to the institute within the stipulated period, their

allotted seats will be cancelled and the candidate will not have any claim of the

seat what so ever.
