Installing SafeBytes1. Enter the URL (www.safebytes.com) in the address field of the browser. The SafeBytes webpage is

as displayed below:

2. Click on Download SafeBytes Anti-Virus. This downloads the SafeBytes setup file.3. Double-click the SafeBytes setup file to install.

Note: You can also right-click the setup file and select “Run as administrator” to install.4. The following screen is displayed once downloading the updated driver (is complete).

5. Click Next. The Agreement window is displayed.

6. Click on I Agree.7. Once the installation of SafeBytes on your pc has completed, you will notice the display of a Success

window.

8. Select the required option: Run SafeBytes – Selecting this option launches SafeBytes as soon as you click on Finish.

9. Click Finish. When the Safebytes is launched for the first time, updates are automatically downloaded and the system is scanned.

Registering SafeBytes

1. On successfully installing SafeBytes, double-click the icon in the desktop. The option to scan the system for any threats is displayed.

Note: You can also go to “ > All Programs > SafeBytes > Start SafeBytes” in order to access the SafeBytes application.

2. Click Scan Now. SafeBytes will now scan the system and display the results.

3. If the product has already been purchased, then you can follow the steps provided in the Activating SafeBytes section.

Refer to Purchasing the Product if you do not have the activation key.

Activating SafeBytes1. Click I already have a key. The Activation window is displayed below:

2. Enter the license key in the field and click Activate Now.Note: If you have copied the license key, click the “Click here to paste the license key from clipboard” link to paste the key in the field.

3. The success message is displayed.

4. Click on Continue to view the scan results and to use SafeBytes.

Purchasing the Product1. SafeBytes webpage is displayed by clicking on the Register Now button.

2. Enter the full name of the user in the Full Name field.3. Enter the email address in the Email field.4. Click on Activate Now. Once completed, the Purchase page will display.

5. You can use either credit card or PayPal to pay for the license. 6. Paying via Credit Card:

Click on Credit Card. The following page is displayed.Note: By default the cardholder name and the email address are displayed.

Enter the card number in the Card Number field. Select the card expiration date from the Expiry Date dropdown. Enter the validation code of the card in the Card Validation Code field. Select the country from the Country dropdown. Enter the postal code in the Postal Code field. Click on Process Order.

7. Paying via PayPal: Click on PayPal. The following page will display:

Once you click on the PayPal tab the login page will come up.

Enter the Email address in the Email field. Enter the password in the PayPal password field. Click Log In. (Once you have successfully logged in, you can use the PayPal account to

Accessing SafeBytes

Once you have successfully installed SafeBytes, double-click the icon on the desktop. This will display the Scan Results.

Note: You can also go to “ > All Programs > SafeBytes > Start SafeBytes” to access the SafeBytes application.

Malware ScanPerforming a Quick Scan

The quick scan checks the common system files and active memory for malwares. To perform the quick scan use the following steps:

1. Launch SafeBytes and go to Malware Scan > Summary.

4. Once the scan is 100% complete, the list of threats will display as shown below:

5. To fix the malware threats, click on Fix Threats and it will eliminate all of them. Once completed, a message will display.

Performing a System ScanThe system scan option scans all the files in the system or selected files/folders in the system.

To perform a system scan you will have to:

1. Launch SafeBytes and go to Malware Scan > Summary.2. Click Start corresponding to the System Scan section from the Summary screen. The Scan Settings

screen will diplay.

3. Select the checkboxes of the corresponding items from the Scan Types section to be scanned.

4. To scan custom locations, click Choose Files and Folders from the Add Custom Locations section.

5. To scan specific drives, select the checkbox corresponding to the drive.

6. Click Start Custom Scan.

Turning On / Off the System Guard1. Go to Malware Scan > Summary.2. Toggle the button in the System Guard section to turn on / off the system guard.

3. When the system guard is turned off, the warning message will display.

Disabled ProgramsThe Disabled Programs section displays the list of programs that runs when the computer starts. You can enable or disable the programs from the list.

1. Go to Malware Scan > Disabled Programs. The list of programs will appear:

2. Select the checkboxes of the corresponding programs.3. To enable the programs during start up, click Enable All.4. To disable the programs during start up, click Disable All.5. Click Apply to save the changes.

Exclusions

The Exclusions section displays the list of programs that are to be excluded during the scan.

Excluding an Item during ScanGo to Malware Scan > Exclusion. The Exclusions screen will display:

1. Click Add Exclusion. The popup window will appear:

3. Click Apply.

Removing the Items from the List1. Select the checkbox of the corresponding item to be removed.2. Click Remove.

Note: To select all the items in the list, click Select All. To deselect all the selected items, click Select None.

System Guard

The System Guard option blocks any malicious processes from executing on the computer.

Turning the system guard on / off

1. Launch SafeBytes and click System Guard. The System Guard screen will display:

2. To turn off the System Guard, click on Click to Disable System Guard.

Note: By default, the system guard is On.3. You can toggle the button to turn the guard on / off.

Allowing a Blocked Item

1. Launch SafeBytes and click System Guard. The System Guard screen will come up:

2. Select the checkbox of the item that needs to be allowed from the Blocked Applications and Files section.

3. Click Allow. This moves the item to the Safe Items list.

4. To delete the item, click Remove.

Blocking an Item1. Open SafeBytes and click System Guard.

5. Select the checkbox of the item to be blocked from the Safe Items section.6. Click on Block. This moves the selected item to the Blocked Applications and Files section.

Internet SecurityToolbars and Add ons:

This option enables you to remove the browser extensions or browser add ons from the system.

To remove extensions and add ons you have to perform the following steps:

1. Launch SafeBytes and go to Internet Security > Toolbars and Addons. The Browser Extensions screen will display.

2. Select the checkbox of the corresponding extensions/addons.3. Click Remove to remove the selected extensions/addons. The following confirmation message

appear.

Note: Clicking Select All selects all the extensions/addons in the list. To deselect the items, click Select None.

4. Click Yes to remove.

Browser ProtectionThe Browser Protection option prevents the malware from modifying and disrupting the internet connection.

To set the browser protection the following steps are required:

1. Launch SafeBytes and go to Internet Security > Browser Protection. The Browser Protection screen will display.

2. Select the checkboxes from the System Protection section to activate the following options:

Activate LSP Chain Protection – Enabling this option protects the Microsoft Layered Service Provider of the system.

Activate Advanced DNS Protection – Enabling this option guards the system against the DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks.

3. Select the checkboxes from the Internet Explorer Protection section to activate the following options.

Activate Internet Explorer Proxy Monitor– Selecting this option helps to monitor the proxy settings that are defined in the Internet Explorer.

Force Internet Explorer to Display Image – Selecting this option displays all the images by default in the Internet Explorer.

Activate Internet Explorer Homepage Protection – Selecting this option prevents other programs from modifying the homepage that is defined in the Internet Explorer. The Homepage can be defined by the user or can be left blank.

4. Select the required option: Use – The users can define the link to be used in the field. Select Homepage – Enables you to select a homepage from the dropdown. Use blank – Selecting this option displays a blank page when the Internet Explorer is

opened.

5. For each browser, you can define the homepage to be used in the Current Homepage field.

6. Click Apply to save the changes.

Spyware HelpDesk

The Spyware HelpDesk option enables you to submit a ticket.

To open a ticket:

1. Launch SafeBytes and click Spyware HelpDesk. The Spyware Helpdesk screen will display.

Note: By default the email address of the user is displayed in the Helpdesk section. You can modify the email address if required.

2. Select the support type (Technical, Account, or Billing) from the Support dropdown.3. Enter the subject of the issue in the Subject field.4. Enter the description of the issue in the Message field.5. Click Submit Your Ticket.

You can also go to www.safebytes.com and check the frequently asked questions in the Support section to find answers to your issues or concerns.

Quarantine

The Quarantine section displays the list of files that are infected or found to be suspicious. You can delete the files, restore them or submit them for further analysis.

In order to do this, you must:

1. Launch SafeBytes and click on Quarantine. The list of infected files / suspected files will appear.2. To delete the infected files, select the checkbox of the corresponding file and click Delete.3. To restore the file, select the checkbox of the corresponding file and click Restore.

SettingsGeneral

The General settings screen comprises the user details as well as the configuration details.

Click on the Settings tab and by default the General Settings screen will display:

User Details sectionThe user details section comprises the licensing information. This information is displayed by default and cannot be modified.

SafeBytes Configuration section:

1. Select the required language from the Language dropdown.2. Select the checkboxes corresponding to the required option.

Automatically Install SafeBytes Application updates–Selecting the option automatically installs the software updates if available for the SafeBytes application.

Start SafeBytes on system startup–Selecting this option starts SafeBytes application when the system is turned on.

Start SafeBytes scan on program startup – Selecting this option starts to scan the system when the program starts.

Minimize SafeBytes on program startup – Selecting this option minimizes SafeBytes to the tray in the right lower corner. You can click the icon in the tray to open the application.

Use default password for password protected archives –Selecting this option enables you to define passwords for the archives. Selecting this option enables the Archive Password field.

3. Enter the password for the archives in the Archive Password field.Note: This field is only enabled when the Use default password for password protected archives checkbox is selected.

4. Click Apply.

SchedulerThe Scheduler feature enables you to schedule the frequency of the malware database definition updates as well as run pre-set scans.

1. Launch SafeBytes and go to Settings > Scheduler. The Scheduler screen will display.

2. Automatic Updates Toggle the button in the Automatic Updates section to turn on / off the automatic updates. You can click the or the button to manually schedule the time period for automatic

updates.Note: You can click Update Now button to update the malware database definitions.

3. Scheduled Scan Click the or the to select the time to start the scan from the Run scan at field. From the Repeat Scan section select the required option.

Once–Selecting this option runs the scan only once. Daily - Selecting this option runs the scan daily. Weekly - Selecting this option runs the scan weekly on the selected days. On

selecting this option, the Select the day(s) of the week section is enabled. You can select the required days as required.

4. Click Apply.Note: You can toggle button to turn enabled / disable the Automatic Updates and Scheduled Scan sections.

AboutThe About section displays the product version, registration details as well as the software end user license agreement.

1. Launch SafeBytes and click on About in order for the screen to display.
