1. Using a remote SIM card with Bluetooth wireless technology

The car kit phone supports Bluetooth wireless technology andBluetooth SIM access profile.

y Bluetooth wireless technologyBluetooth wireless technology is an international standardfor wireless short-range communication, allowing you toestablish a wireless radio connection between your car kitphone and a compatible device supporting Bluetoothwireless technology within a maximum range of 10 metres.Such devices may include, for example, a compatible mobilephone, laptop computer or wireless headset. The wirelessconnection between the compatible devices established viaBluetooth technology is free of charge for the user.

y Bluetooth SIM Access Profile Bluetooth SIM Access Profile is an industry standard whichallows a device, e.g. a car kit phone, which supportsBluetooth wireless technology to access a SIM card in acompatible mobile phone over a wireless link. The car kitphone is then able to read and write data from/to theremote SIM card inserted in the compatible mobile phoneand to log into the GSM network. A separate SIM cardinserted in the car kit phone is not required in this case.

You have switched on a compatible mobile phone supportingthe Bluetooth SIM Access Profile standard, a valid SIM card isinserted in the compatible mobile phone, Bluetooth wirelesstechnology has been activated, the compatible mobile phone

With Bluetooth SIM Access Profile, the car kit phone combinesthe advantages of a fixed installed car phone such as excellentaudio quality, use of a compatible, external GSM antenna andoptimum ease of operation with the advantages of a car kitinstallation, e.g. use of the SIM card inserted in a compatiblemobile phone or access to the relevant contact data. And all this time the compatible mobile phone can convenientlybe located in the user’s briefcase; there is no need for it to beinserted in a cradle for operation. The wireless Bluetooth SIMAccess Profile connection between the car kit phone and thecompatible mobile phone is upheld either until the compatiblemobile phone is moved out of range (e.g. when the user leavesthe car) or until the user breaks the connection by pressing abutton on the compatible mobile phone to change back tostandard operation of the mobile or to switch off the phone. If desired, a separate car SIM card can be inserted in the car kitphone. This SIM card can be used when the wireless link to thecompatible mobile phone established via Bluetooth technologyis interrupted or if the car kit phone is to be operated using apermanent car SIM card.

p Voice tags are not language dependent. They are dependenton the speaker’s voice.

p Voice tags are sensitive to background noise. Record themand make calls in a quiet environment.

p When recording a voice tag or making a call by saying avoice tag, make sure to speak clearly into the microphone.

p Very short names are not accepted. Use long names andavoid similar names for different numbers.

x You must say the name exactly as you said it when yourecorded it. This may be difficult in, for example, a noisyenvironment or during an emergency, so you should not relysolely upon voice dialling in all circumstances.

handover may also occur when the user is stationary due tovarying cellular traffic loads. Such handovers may cause delays.

Dead spots and dropoutsDead spots are areas where radio signals cannot be received.Dropouts occur when the car kit phone user passes through anarea where the radio signal is blocked or reduced by geographicor man-made obstructions such as hills or high buildings. Theconsequences may be interruptions in service or the connectionmay fail.

Low signal strengthDue to either distance from a base station or obstacles betweenyour car kit phone and the base station, the radio signalstrength from a cell site may not be strong or stable enough toprovide a reliable cellular connection for trouble-free receptionor transmission. Therefore, to ensure the best possiblecommunication, remember to take the following points intoconsideration when using your car kit phone: Data and fax transmission will work best when the car isstationary as this ensures that the signal strength will remainconstant. Attempting cellular communication while in a movingvehicle is not recommended. Fax transmission is more easilyimpaired than data or short message transmission. Check the signal strength on your car kit phone display. If thecellular signals are not strong enough to support a voice call, data connection should not be attempted until you can find alocation with better reception.
