Chapter 1: Introduction to the Center Management System

+RZ�,W�:RUNVThe Center Management System (CMS) transfers information between theControl Desk and the Back Office, the pinsetters, and automatic scorers.

The CMS is made up of two parts. The Control Desk, located at the front desk,permits the operator to control the pinsetters, receive payments, rent shoes,maintain the scorer consoles, and oversee the billiards. Retail sales, bowling,and billiards are entered at the Control Desk terminal.

The Office system, located in the back office, enables the Manager to performspecial activities. Tournament and league recordkeeping are entered at theBack Office terminal.

The CMS operates the pinsetters in Scorer Mode if the bowling center hasautomatic scorer consoles. CMS can provide a variety of scorer consoleoperations if the bowling center has automatic scorer consoles.

This manual addresses the operation of the Control Desk.

The Control Desk Terminal is usually left on, even when the bowling center isclosed.

To turn the Control Desk Terminal On or Off:

1. Press the power button in the bottom front of the terminal.

When turning on the Control Desk Terminal:

If no operator was logged on when the terminal was turned off, theoperator must log on before operating the terminal.

If an operator was logged on when the terminal was turned off, theoperator can continue using the Control Desk terminal at the LaneStatus screen.

NOTE: No data is lost when the Control Desk terminal power is turnedoff.

The operator can enter the payment type and open the cash drawer using thepayment keys.

Press CASH (1) to enter a cash payment. The CASH key is also the no-salekey.

Press PAYMENT TYPE (2) to enter other payment types, including creditcards and checks.

Press PAYMENT TYPE (3) (on Cashworx systems only) to enter otherpayment types, including credit cards and checks.

The operator can control bowling and billiard operations using the bowlingand billiard keys. Use the bowling and billiard keys with the payment and salemodifier keys when turning lanes or billiard tables on and off.

Press SHOES (1) to rent shoes or billiard cues to customers.

Press THRU (2) to indicate a range of lanes.

Press LANE ON (3) to display the Check-In screen for bowling and billiards.

Press RATE (4) to display and use special bowling rates.

Press LEAGUE (5) to assign lanes to league bowlers, review the leagueschedule, and accept league payments.

Press TOURN (6) to assign lanes and accept payment for a tournament.

Press PREPAID (7) to accept payment for lanes or tables before the customerbegins play or while the customer is playing.

Press SHEET (8) to change the sheet number when turning lanes on or off orprint a receipt on demand.

Press PRACT (9) to turn the pinsetters and scorer consoles on in practicemode prior to league play.

Press CORRECT SCORES (10) to display and correct bowler scores, printthe scoresheet displayed on the Control Desk terminal, delete bowlers oncetheir scores have been removed, and enter/change bowler names andhandicaps.

The Cash Drawer works like the drawer on a cash register. It opens and closesupon commands by the CMS.

1. Press CASH to open the cash drawer.

2. Place the cash tray in the empty cash drawer with the bills section of thetray in the back.

The Office Terminal is usually located in the bowling center's back office. The Office Terminal manages access to the Control Desk terminal and otherterminals connected to the CMS.

The Manager, Daily Reporting System operator, and League Record Serviceoperator will use the Office Terminal to perform their tasks.

The Scoresheet Printer enables the operator to print scoresheets for bowlers.

The Scoresheet Printer should be checked to make sure it is operational at thebeginning of each shift.

Receipt Printer

1. Turn the POWER switch to the ON position.

2. Check the paper supply.

3. Make sure the printer is online. If you are unsure of how to do this, referto the documentation supplied with your printer.

4. Print a test scoresheet:

• Type a lane number.

• Press PRINT SCORES. A list is displayed of all the scoresbowled in the last 48 hours.

• Type 1 and press ENTER. The most recent scoresheet stored forthe lane is displayed.

• Press P.

• Press RESET two times.

If the print on the scoresheet is not dark and clear, refer to the printermanufacturer's manual for the procedures to change the ribbon.

The Receipt Printer is an optional piece of equipment and prints receipts forcash transactions.

The Receipt Printer should be checked to make sure it is operational at thebeginning of each shift.

1. Turn the POWER switch to the ON position.

3. Check whether or not the green light next to the ON LINE control is on. Press ON LINE to turn it on if the green light is not lit.

The optional intercom can be used to communicate between the control deskand the scorer console. The control desk operator can place a call to oranswer a call from the bowlers at the scorer console.

To call a range of lanes (available only with Frameworx scorers):

If you have Frameworx scorers and more than one control desk terminal, eachterminal may use an intercom channel to talk to different lanes. Up to fourintercom channels may be active at one time.

When a customer calls the control desk using the intercom, the monitor willdisplay “Intercom” and the lane number where he or she is bowling.

1. Lift the intercom handset.

2. Press INTERCOM. Begin speaking.

3. Replace the intercom handset when you are finished talking.

4. Press INTERCOM to turn off the intercom.

If more than one customer is trying to call the control desk, pressINTERCOM when you are finished speaking to one customer and you will beimmediately connected to the next call. The calls are answered in the orderthey are received.

If included with a “Pay By Bowler” transaction:

Chapter 3: Open Play The bowling center may offer the customer a choice of various methods ofpayment. The customer may be able to have prepaid or postpaid bowling;time or game bowling; special rates for specific bowlers, events, and times ofday; supported and unsupported league bowling; tournament bowling; andorganized open play bowling.

The steps for turning lanes on and off, monitoring the lanes, and acceptingpayments varies slightly, depending on the method of payment.

Open Play is available to bowlers when the lanes are not being used forleagues or tournaments. Bowlers come in and bowl for a period of time ornumber of games and either prepay or postpay for the bowling.

:DLWLQJ�/LVWIf the bowling center is experiencing a busy period, a waiting list can becreated to manage the waiting customers. Up to 252 parties of 12 bowlers perlane can be put on a waiting list.

Bowlers who have been entered into the Open Play program may have theirnames sent to the scorer through the waiting list for automatic updating. If thenames are not sent to the scorer automatically, the scores will have to beprocessed manually, into an Open Bowling file.

NOTE: Only complete games are updated into the Open Play program. Agame is considered complete when the tenth frame is bowled for all bowlers.

You may bring up the waiting list using the bowler's Open Play card (if amagnetic card reader is available). Once the waiting list is displayed, otherbowlers' names may be added. If no magnetic card reader is available, pressW for Waiting List at the Lane Status screen.

7XUQLQJ�2II�/HDJXH�/DQHV�The lanes can turn off either automatically or manually. The automatic turnoff times are set by the bowling center and after the pre-determined amount oftime expires, the pinsetters and scorer consoles will turn off.

If the pinsetters and scorer consoles are not set to turn off, or if the lanes areneeded by other bowlers before the turn off time expires, the lanes can beturned off manually at the Control Desk. The lanes must be turned off in pairsor multiples of pairs.

At the Lane Status screen:

To delete a name, type 0.

Once the message is stored in the scorer, it may be activated by the operatorusing the Scorer Status screen. The letter Z will activate the feature and theletters U and Z will deactivate the feature. Messages may be test, scrolling, orboth. Although both text and scrolling messages may be used simultaneously,the process of activating or deactivating an automatic advertising messagerequires the operator to select text or scrolling individually. The duration maybe set for advertising messages the same as with a normal overhead message.

Chapter 7: Scorer StatusScorer Status is used to check which features at the scorer are enabled (turnedon) and which mode of play is enabled. Letters are used to indicate whichfeatures are turned on. This display will also show the number of bowlers andthe current frame for a lane in separate columns.

The following terms are used to indicate that a feature is being turned on:

• Turn on• Enable• Set

The following terms are used to indicate that a feature is being turned off:

• Turn off• Disable• Unset

In order to turn on any of the features, the lane must have already been issuedto a customer. It is not necessary to turn off a feature when the customer isfinished, the system will automatically disable optional features when the laneis re-issued to the next customer, and enable the standard features.

7KH�6FRUHU�6WDWXV�6FUHHQAt the Lane Status screen, press SCORER STATUS to display the ScorerStatus screen. The following columns will always be displayed:

• Lane number (first column in every row)• Mode of play (see the section Mode of Play later in this chapter)• Two numbers or letters in the far right column of each row:

• The first digit is the number of active bowlers on the lane.• The second digit is the number of the current frame the lane is in.

B — Enables or disables the frames for the free strikes. After setting theoption, type the frame numbers that the free strikes will be given (usezero for the first ball in the 10th frame). After all frames have beentyped in, press ENTER. Press F or S to indicate whether the bowlerswill have the ability to select the frames they want (S), or are forced toaccept the frames you typed (F).

D — Allows the operator to change the overhead display from the standarddisplay to the PBA display (large size marks).

E — Enables or disables the exciters. After setting, or unsetting, the option,a list of all of the exciters will be displayed. Type the number of theexciter you are turning on or off, or type 99 to select all of the standardexciters. From this screen, which shows the standard exciters, you canpress the letter E again and a list of special game exciters is displayed.These can be turned on in the same manner as the standard exciters.

F — When this option is set, it fills in the bowler's scores as they bowl whenthey have more than two strikes in a row. When this option is not set,the score for each of the frames that contain a strike, in the string ofstrikes, will not be filled in until the bowler bowls a frame less than astrike.

G — Enables or disables the bowlers' access to view their previous games.

H — When this option is set, the operator can change the assigned value ofthe high game exciter for the current customer. If a high game value of0 (zero) is set, the special high game exciter is turned off.

I — This option allows the operator to select the type of bowler sequencerthat will be on the lane. The choices are: color bar only or arrow only.By unsetting this option, the scorer will automatically default to botharrows and color bar.

J — When this option is set, the operator can choose an overhead display of4-6 frames or 7-9 frames, depending on the length of the bowler'snames. When this option is unset, the display will be in the 10 frameformat.

K — Enables or disables the lane coach, which shows the bowler how topick up spares. On lanes which have Instant Replay (IR) andBowlerTrack (BT), this option is used to activate IR/BT in league andtournament play. It is also used to change the default settings of IR/BT inall scoring modes.

M — When this option is set, it allows the operator to select T (the numberof frames a bowler takes during each turn [2, 5, 10]) or L (the numberof frames before changing lanes [1-10]). When the option is unset,each bowler receives one frame per turn.

N — When setting this option, the operator first selects the No Tap value,between 3 and 9. After the value is selected, the operator decides ifthis value is to be forced (all bowlers must use it); or default (no matterwhich value is selected, the default value programmed by the managerwill be in effect). When the option is unset, the bowlers cannot use theNo Tap game.

Q — When this option is set, no scoresheet will automatically be printed atthe end of the game. When this option is unset, every scoresheet forthis customer at this lane will automatically be printed on thescoresheet printer.

T — By turning this option on, the operator can enable the display of thebowler's cumulative series (in league mode) and allow the team's recapsheet to be displayed. In addition, the operator can choose to displaymarks in the running team total, instead of pinfall.

X — This option reestablishes communications between the CMS and thescorer. It is used if a shaded bar appears in front of, or on, the lanenumber in the Lane or Scorer Status screens.

Y — When this option is set, the operator can allow the lane to have practiceduring open play. This option is also used to allow the bowlers' accessto download names from the CMS Open Bowling Program to thescorer.

Z — When set, this option turns on the automatic advertising that themanager programmed in each of the scorers. If a lane comes upwithout a message, then it either was not programmed with a specialmessage, or the scorer needs to be rebooted to activate the message.

$6����6FRUHU�2SWLRQVA — Turns on or off only the audio signal for a lane. The audio signal

automatically turns on when the video signal is turned on. This optionis used when the bowlers want to listen to TV, but not watch it.

B — Enables or disables the bonus game which gives free strikes in the 3rd,6th, and 9th frames. When this option is selected, each bowler canchoose whether or not to participate in the special game.

D — When this option is set, the operator chooses whether to display all tenframes on the overhead in the large size for just one bowler or twobowlers per lane. The system will automatically display the bowlers inlineup number one and two, regardless of how many bowlers are on thelane. It is recommended that this option only be used when there aretwo or less bowlers on each lane, and that the bowlers' names are inpositions one and two.

E — Enables or disables the exciters (spare, strike, double, turkey, etc.).

F — When this option is set, it fills in the bowler's scores as they bowl whenthey have more than two strikes in a row. Computer Monitor - The screen component of the system computer.

Control Desk - The control center for the front of your bowling center. TheControl Desk consists of a Control Desk terminal, a pole display, a cashdrawer, a receipt printer, a lane interface unit and a manual lane control panel. If your bowling center has automatic scorers, the Control Desk also includes ascorer interface unit, an intercom handset, and a scoresheet printer.

Control Desk Terminal - The Control Desk component that lets you enterretail sales, assign lanes and billiard tables and control assigned lanes. TheControl Desk terminal is connected to the system computer.

Correct Scores Screen - The screen that lets the user correct bowler scoresand delete bowlers.

Crosslane Mode - A lane assignment mode in which two lanes operate as apair. Bowlers move from one lane to the other when bowling a game.

Current Printer Output - Information that has been sent to the printer and isstored in the printer s memory.

Department Letter - The letter entered in a retail sale to associate the salewith a department.

Flashing Arrows - The arrows on the scorer display that indicate whichbowler should bowl next.

Flashing Background - Flashing backgrounds on the Lane Status andBilliards Activity screens highlight special conditions and are designed toattract the user s attention. The Lane Status screen may display a flashingmedium intensity background or a flashing high intensity background bar.

Flashing Lane Information - Flashing lane information on the Lane Statusscreen is designed to attract the user s attention. Flashing lane information ona zero intensity background bar means a lane is on hold or a pinsetter has beenturned off in an emergency. A flashing lane number means there is a heldparty.

Flat Rate - A rate that is charged for lane use regardless of the amount of timeor number of games that were bowled.

Floppy Disk Drive - The device that writes information on a floppy disk.

Forced Mode - Requiring the bowlers to play a game in a certain format.

Format a Disk - Prepare a disk to receive data from the system computer.

Foul - The act of touching any part of the bowling lane beyond the approacharea.

Foul Detector - A component, located at the foul line, that indicates that afoul has occurred when a bowler steps on or beyond the foul line.

Foul Line - The line that separates the approach from the lane.

Game Rate - A rate or special rate for game bowling or billiards.

Guaranteed Lineage - A fixed amount paid per week no matter how manygames are bowled.

Held Party - A bowler whose lane has been turned off and reassigned, butwho has not paid for bowling.

High Intensity Background Bar - A solid high intensity background bar onthe Lane Status screen means a lane is assigned for open play bowling. Aflashing high intensity background bar means there is a slow bowler.

Hold Status - A lane operating mode in which the pinsetters are off,automatic scorers remain on, but time does not accumulated.

Hold Status Time-Out - The period of time that elapses, after the CenterManagement System puts pre-paid or league lanes on hold, before the lanesturn off. The hold status time-out is set by the bowling center.

Holiday Rates - Game and time bowling or billiard rates that are charged bythe system for weekend or holiday customers. Holiday rates are in effect fromstart-of-business on Saturday to start-of-business on Monday.

Hot Key - A function key assigned to a program that lets you move back andforth among different programs without exiting them.

Information Screen - A screen that provides information but requires noentry.

Information Station - An optional component that lets bowlers viewinformation about special events and add their names to a sign-up list.

Install Software - Copy programs from a disk into the system computer.

Installation Questionnaire - The questionnaire completed for your bowlingcenter prior to the installation of your Center Management System.

Installed Default Prices - The prices entered in the system computer when itis installed in your bowling center. The installed default price is 99.99.

Intercom Handset - A Control Desk component that lets you talk to bowlersat their scorer console.

Intercom Message - A message at the top of the Lane Status or Scorer Statusscreen that indicates the intercom is turned on.

Intercom Tone - A tone generated by the Scorer Interface Unit when there isan incoming intercom call at the scorer console.

Item Number - A number that must be entered to move the cursor to an itemon a data entry screen.

Journal Transaction Log - An electronic record of all operations performedat the Control Desk terminal kept in the Center Management Systemcomputer.

Junior Rate - A bowler rate charged to students and children.

Lane Assignment - Activation of a lane for bowling.

Lane Interface Unit - A Control Desk component that providescommunication between Center Management System and the pinsetters.

Lane Number The number of an individual lane.

Lane Pair - Two adjacent lanes that are electronically connected. If the firstlane in the bowling center is odd, a lane pair must begin with an odd number. If the first lane in the bowling center is even, a lane pair must begin with aneven number. The system assigns a lane pair in crosslane mode.

Lane Range - Three or more lanes that are assigned together. Lane pairs areassigned in crosslane mode. An odd number of lanes (3 or more) are assignedin a single-lane mode.

Lane Status Screen - The Control Desk terminal screen that shows how thelanes in your bowling center are being used.

League - An organized group of bowlers who bowl according to league rulesat a specific day and time.

League Lane Warning - A message shown on the Control Desk terminalCheck-In screen when a league is scheduled to bowl on the lane beingassigned within 60 minutes.

League Lineup - The teams and bowlers that are scheduled to bowl.

League Match - The lane assignment mode that is used for leagues. Leaguemode is identified by the letters LG in the Check-In screen RATE box.

League Number - A one-, two- or three-digit number that identifies a league. The league number must be entered in the system computer before the lanescan be assigned in league mode.

League Payment Screen - The screen that lets a user accept a leaguepayment.

League Practice - The period of time during which a league can bowl withoutaccumulating scores.

League Practice Color - The color shown on the overhead or scorer displaywhen the scorer is in practice mode.

League Schedule - The schedule that determines which teams are matched foreach series.

League Secretary - The person designated by the league to manage financesand league records.

League Series - The number of games played by each team. Most leaguesbowl a three or four game series.

League Series Colors - The colors shown on the overhead display when lanesare assigned in league mode.

League Standings - A record of a league s team positions.

Lineage - Bowling fee paid by a league or tournament.

Load Software - Copy updated software from a disk to the system computer.

Local Mode - An operating mode that must be set at the automatic scorerwhen the Center Management System is used in stand-alone mode.

Low Ball Game - Low Ball is a ten pin game where the lowest possible scorewins. The bowler must knock down at least one pin for each ball thrown.Channel balls or misses are counted as 10 points. The lowest possible score is20 points.

Low Intensity Background Bar - A shaded low intensity background bar onthe Lane Status screen means a lane is assigned to a league. If a shaded lowintensity background bar is shown for a lane that is not assigned, it means thepinsetter is not on line.

LRS - See League Record Service.

LRS Keys - The office terminal keys that are used in the League RecordService program.

LRS League - See supported league.

LRS Operator - The person in your bowling center who runs the LeagueRecord Service.

Monte Carlo - Monte Carlo is a game of chance that uses colored pins in thepin deck. When the colored pins are “set” in a specific pin position and thebowler bowls a strike, spare, or split, prizes are awarded to the bowler asdefined by the bowling center.

Move Arrows A function that enables a late bowler to bowl the framemissed. Also used if a bowler must complete a game ahead of the rest of theteam.

Non-guaranteed League - A league that pays for each game bowled.

No-Sale Transaction - A transaction that opens the cash drawer but does nottake-in or pay-out money. This transaction is used to make change forcustomers.

No-Tap Scoring - A scorer status option that awards the bowler a strike whenfewer than 10 pins are knocked down. Bowlers can select 8 or 9 pin no-tapscoring at the scorer console (or 3 through 9 on Frameworx consoles).

No-Tap Value - When bowling the No-Tap game, the minimum number ofpins a bowler must knock down on his/her first delivery to receive a strike.

O

Odd/Even Game - Odd/Even is a ten pin open game where there is only oneball per frame. After a ball is thrown, if the pinfall is an even number, theframe is scored as a strike. If the pinfall is an odd number, the frame is scoredas a spare where the first score of the frame is assigned the pinfall value.Channel balls are scored as zero for the entire frame.

Off-Line - Not under control of the Center Management System computer.

Office Printer - The printer in your bowling center s office.

Office Terminal - A terminal connected to the system computer that is usedto perform office operations.

Office Terminal Menu - The menu that is displayed when you sign on to theoffice terminal.

On-Line - Under control of the Center Management System computer.

On-Line Assistance - Assistance from Brunswick Customer Response Centerpersonnel using the modem.

Open Frame - Failure to knock down all 10 pins on two consecutive throwsin the same frame (or all five pins down in 5-Pin bowling).

Open Play Bowling - Bowling in open play mode. Open play bowlers canpre-pay or post-pay, can pay for their time or games, and can bowl insingle-lane or crosslane mode.

Open Play Practice Mode - A mode where the Frameworx automatic scorercan be placed so no score is recorded. Frame count is still maintained by theCotrol Desk.

Organized Open Play - An organized event bowled in open play mode.

Other Activities - A fund that leagues can use to save money for trophies,fees and special events.

Out-of-Turn bowler A bowler who bowls out of his or her regular turn.

Pending Printer Output - Information waiting to be sent to the printer.

Perfect Game - Twelve consecutive strikes in the same game.

Per-Game League Payment - A league payment in which the league pays foreach game bowled. Non-guaranteed leagues pay per game.

Pin Queue - Pins in a pinsetter machine.

Pinsetter - The component at the lanes that sets the pins and returns the ball.

Senior Rate - The bowling rate charged to senior citizens.

Sheet - A numbered form used by bowling centers without automatic scorersto let bowlers record their scores. The bowling center uses sheets todetermine the amount of money due. The system allows the sheet number tobe entered when the lane is assigned. The system increases sheet numbers byone with each lane assignment.

Shift - An employee s work period.

Show Screen - The screen that shows detailed information about a laneassignment.

Slow Bowler Message - A message that appears on the automatic scorer whenthere has been no bowling for a designated amount of time.

Sign On - Enter your password in the system computer. After you sign on,you can perform Control Desk or office terminal operations.

Sign Off - Exit Control Desk terminal or office terminal operations.

Special Rate - A rate used for special situations that is charged by typing aspecial rate number and pressing RATE. Special rates can be used for specialevents, to provide savings for multiple games (split rates), to enter free time orgames, or to deduct a discount amount from the amount due.

Split - Two or more pins standing (not including the number one pin), with atleast one missing pin between the standing pins.

Split Conversion - Knocking down all of the standing pins in a split.

Split Rate - A rate that charges a single price for multiple games, for example,three games for $5.00.

Stand-Alone Mode - Operation of the system without automatic scorers.

Standard Lineage - See Guaranteed lineage.

Star Frame - In league play, all of the members of the team bowl a strike orspare in the same frame.

Start Time - The time of day at which a lane is assigned.

Strike - Knocking down all 10 pins (five pins in 5-Pin bowling) on the firstthrow of a frame.

Supported League - A league that uses the bowling center s LRS. Whenlanes are assigned to a LRS league, the Center Management System sends theleague s line-ups to the automatic scorers. The automatic scorers send thebowlers scores back to the computer to update the league s standings andschedule the next week s line-ups.

System Maintenance Operations - Operations that let you back up, restoreand erase system data.

Table Number - The number assigned to a billiard table by your bowlingcenter.

Tape Backup - A copy of Center Management System information on a tape.

Tape Drive - The device that writes information on a tape.

Tax Rate - See Preset Tax Rate.

Tax Rate Number - A number from 1 through 9 assigned to your bowlingcenter s preset tax rates.

Tax Rates Screen - The Control Desk terminal screen that lets you enter up tonine preset tax rates.

Team - A group of bowlers. Six or fewer bowlers may bowl as a team forleague competition.

Ten frame display A special feature that enables you to display ten frames ata time.

Time Bowling - Bowling in which bowlers pay for their time.

Time Periods - Divisions of the business day that can be used toautomatically change bowling rates. You can enter a maximum of four timeperiods.

Time Rate - A bowler rate or special rate for time bowling.

Tournament - An organized event bowled where bowlers compete againsteach other as singles, doubles and/or teams.

Tournament Mode - The lane assignment mode that is used for tournaments. Tournament mode is identified by the letters TT, TD, or TS in the Check-Inscreen RATE box.

Tournament Payment Screen - The screen that lets you accept a tournamentpayment.

Tournament Practice Color - The color shown on the overhead display whenthe scorer is in practice mode. The tournament practice color is the same asthe league practice color.

Tournament Series - The number of games played by each team. Atournament series can be up to 10 games.

Tournament Series Colors - The colors shown on the overhead display whenlanes are assigned in tournament mode.

Tournament Viewing Colors - The colors shown on the overhead displaywhen tournament scores are viewed on other lanes.

Transfer A Lane - Move a bowler s time, games, frame, names or scoresfrom one lane to another.

Transfer A Billiard Table - Move a player s time from one billiard table toanother.

Turkey - Three strikes in a row.

12-Hour Clock - A clock that displays hours from 1 through 12, adding AMor PM.

24-Hour Clock - A clock that displays hours from 1 through 24.

Typing and Control Keys - Control Desk terminal and office terminal keys. Typing keys let you type the letters and numbers needed to perform ControlDesk operations. Control keys let you move the cursor, erase information andenter information you have typed into the system computer.

Unattended Mode - An operating mode in which no operations can beperformed on the Control Desk terminal.

� Refer to all available documentation (Brunswick Service Bulletins,user manuals, etc.) and other center employees before calling theCustomer Response Center. Many questions are answered in thesemanuals or may previously have been answered for other members ofthe center's staff.

If you cannot find the answer to your questions or the solution to yourproblem, call the Brunswick Customer Response Center at 800.323.3141. Youwill be prompted to hold for a technician or leave a message. If you choose toleave a message, Brunswick's new Waitless Queue allows your message tohold your place in the queue and a technician will return your call as rapidlyas if you had waited yourself.

Brunswick will need the following information when you call:

� Your Brunswick customer number.� The business or trade name of your center.� A brief description of the symptoms you are experiencing.� Any other pertinent information, including any error codes.

If you choose to leave a message, Brunswick will need some additionalinformation:

� The center phone number, including area code and country code, ifapplicable.

� Name of contact person(s).� The best time and day to return the call.

If you call during normal business hours, a Brunswick Customer ResponseCenter technician will answer the call (unless you choose to leave a message).Please note that during peak periods you may experience a delay. Thetechnician will work with you to determine the problem(s), probable cause(s),and possible solution(s). Some problems may have multiple symptoms andmultiple possible solutions. Not all problems can be solved with a simple,single answer.

If you choose to leave a message, the more information you can provide, thegreater the possibility the technician can call back with a solution. If you leaveinsufficient information, the technician may have to call back for moreinformation and not be able to solve the problem right away.

If you call on weekends, we operate with reduced staffing and you will onlyhave the option of leaving a message. This is done to reduce your hold timeand allow you to perform other duties at your center. If you have anemergency situation (center down, lanes down), please note that in yourmessage. Brunswick Academy Product Training Services offer maintenance andoperational training for bowling equipment. Customers may attendprescheduled schools or seminars, or hire Brunswick Training Instructors totrain in-center at hourly, daily, and package rates.

Brunswick pinsetter and automatic scoring equipment requires maintenance bytrained and qualified personnel. Brunswick Academy Product Schools haveclasses for GS-Series and A-2 Pinsetters, as well as Frameworx, AS-90, andAS-80 Scorers. In North America, these regularly scheduled schools arelocated at the Brunswick manufacturing facility in Muskegon, Michigan, andoccasionally come to cities near you in seminars.

Bowling center mechanics learn how our equipment works, how to keep itworking, and how to fix it if it breaks. Preventive maintenance is the only wayto protect your capital equipment investment, reduce maintenance costs, andkeep your bowlers bowling.
