Wi-Fi Wi-Fi = wireless fidelity a set of

standards for transmitting data over a wireless network.

An engineer by the name of Michael Marcus prompted the federal communication committee (FCC) to begin with the development of Wi-Fi technology.

What is Wi-Fi ? Continued

In 1985 the FCC opened several bands of wireless spectrum, which allowed them to use it without the need for a government licence, at that time other than ham radio. The were very little unlicensed spectrums

How it worksA wireless adapter translates

data into radio signals through an antenna, a wireless router than receives the signal and decodes the information. The router then using a physical connection sends the information to the internet through a wired Ethernet connection.

The process works in reverse

How it worksWi-Fi radio s have a slight

difference to other radio’s, Wi-Fi radio’s transmit frequencies of 2.4 GHz or 5GHz, a considerable high frequency than that used by cell phones or television radio waves. The reason being the higher the frequency the more data can be carried by the signal.

802.11 Networking standardsThis is a set standards used for

implementing wireless local area network computer communication in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency band.

These standards were made and are maintained by the (IEEE 802) standard committee. These standards provide the base for wireless network products using the Wi-Fi band name.

802.11 Networking standardsOther 802.11 standards focus on

the application of wireless networks, such as wide area networks used by mobile devices with Wi-Fi capabilities, smartphones, tablets or vehicles, techs that allow you to move from one network to another seamlessly.

Wi-Fi radio Wi-Fi radio transmits any of the

frequency bands, 2.4 and 5GHz or they frequency hop between the bands. This helps reduce the interference and allows for multiple devices to be connected to one Wi-Fi hotspot or router simultaneously.

Why Wi-Fi ?

SummeryWi-Fi enables the ease of access

to the internet in workplaces In the home or provided Wi-Fi hotspots. With the growing popularity and demand of being online at all times Wi-Fi technology provides the best platform for instant connectivity.

Radio waves & Television Antennas on a television set

receive a signal in the form of a electromagnetic wave , broadcast from a television station . The information is then displayed on the screen.

Cable companies use a antennas or dishes to receive waves which are sent through a cable to your house.

Radio waves & Mobile phonesMobile phones use cellular

pattern which is divided into areas which we call cells.

Within these cells there are transmitter towers which make up the are network. In large populated areas or cities the can be a hundred of towers to keep up with the demand for mobile use.
