We are open to girls ages 5-18, in kindergarten through 12 th grade. Please join us for a parent information meeting during our Registration Night on Friday, August 28th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. For more information on AHG, visit our website at www.americanheritagegirls.org . For more information on our troop, email us at [email protected] or call Richard Barrette at (913)727-2160. We look forward to seeing you! Jackie Bliss wants to thank her caring family at Trinity for the cards, meals, prayers, and compassionate hugs that she has re- ceived. You are all blessings. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the helpers at the rum- mage sale!! All those that set up, priced, worked, sold, bagged, helped to take items out to cars, packed up and hauled away, and anything else I missed. All the help was and is appreciated. I am always left humbled and awed when I see the power of the Holy Spirit at work, and I have seen it so many times over the years in dealing with our sister congregation down south. I am pleased to announce that we have received a monetary gift from them in the amount of $4,000 as a result of an action taken by them at their recent Voters’ Meeting. The note that came with it said they were sending this contribution to share God’s blessings and love with our brothers and sisters in Christ, because Trinity put so much time and effort into forming their congregation in Basehor almost 15 years ago. They greatly appreciated our support and wanted to show their appreciation. Please join me in thanking Trin- ity Family of Faith Lutheran Church and praying that God contin- ues to bless them and all their future endeavors. John Lange I want to thank my Trinity family and friends for all their prayers, calls, cards and well wishes during my recent surgery. God has truly blessed me with His Grace and wonderful friends and Church family. Blessings to everyone!! Kathy Rush Dear Friends, Words cannot begin to express my gratitude for the celebration last weekend. Worshipping with everyone was very special. Your kind words filled my heart to overflowing. I have been so blessed by your love and support. Christ’s love has always shone through you to me. Your generous gifts will be treasured. The commissioned choir anthem is so amazing. “The King of Love, My Shepherd Is” was sung by my brother at our wedding and this is a beautiful setting of my favorite hymn. Our family enjoyed the wonderful potluck very much; thank you to all who prepared and served the meal. I look forward to new paths of ser- vice with all of you at Trinity. NURSERY TALES….Parents of small children, do you need a moment of peace in worship? Child care is provided for children ages birth to 4 years at all services on Sunday mornings. "BUSY BAGS" are available in the narthex for young children while ushers have the children's bulletins. CHANGING TABLES are located in the nursery and the handi-cap restroom. Ushers or greeters can direct you to the nearest lo-cation. Whether guest or member, please sign the ATTENDANCE CARD at the back of each pew and place it in the offering plate. PRIVATE CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION is available upon request. Please contact Pastor Snyder for more information. If you are attending HOLY COMMUNION today please read through the ivory insert card in the hymnal to review our teaching concerning the Lord's Supper. If you have questions, please speak with our pastor or one of our elders. Children ages 2 through 5 are invited to CHILDREN'S CHURCH during each Sunday worship service. Children go to the Fellowship Hall before the sermon for Children's Church, then return after the sermon. PLEASE NOTE: Cameras capable of audio and video recording are in use in our facility.

For those who have difficulty hearing, hearing assist devices are available from the Welcome Center for use during the worship service. Large print hymnals and Bibles are available from our ushers. Desire a hospital call? If you are entering a hospital, please con-tact the church office. We would like to have the opportunity to minister to you. Due to changes in privacy policy in area hospi-tals, the church often will not know you are in the hospital. Everyone is welcome to participate in the life of our parish. If you would like to become a member of Trinity, mark the appro-priate box on the worship attendance card, or speak with Pastor Snyder.

INFORMATION FOR OUR GUESTS

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

Ephesians 4:28 “Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him la-bor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.” God gives us honest work to do so that we can be a blessing to others. That’s how so many of God’s blessings go: He gives to us so that we in turn can be a bless-ing. He graciously calls us into the midst of His own work in the world.

The flowers on the altar are given to the glory of God by Jean and Sharon Fluevog in thanksgiving for the many blessings they have and continue to receive.

PLEASE NOTE: Cameras capable of audio and video re-cording are in use in our facility. LWML Hope Circle will have their annual Bountiful Buffet TO-MORROW EVENING, August 10, at 6:30 pm in the East Room. We invite all the ladies of our congregation to join us along with ladies of Trinity Family of Faith Lutheran Church, members of St. Paul’s LWML groups, members of Risen Savior’s LWML, members of Trinity Lutheran-Atchison LWML, and la-dies from St John Lutheran in Farley and St John Lutheran in Easton for a nice evening filled with fellowship, music and FOOD! All LWML members should bring a generous dish to provide food for all the guests being invited to our “Bountiful Buffet”. Sandy Simmons and Linda Martin from the Homeless Shelter here in Leavenworth will be our speakers that night. LWML members are reminded that we will be collecting items that the Homeless Shel-ter has identified as being needed and donating them. If anyone else wants to help by bringing food items to the event, the needs are: granola bars, peanut butter or cheese crackers (6 or 8 per package, wrapped ), ramen noodles (in a cup, needing only water – not the flat kind), individual snacks needing only hot water, and pudding or fruit cups. There is a signup sheet on the LWML Bulle-tin Board near the East Room, but don’t stay home if you don’t sign up!! It is time for The Lutheran Witness renewal. If you would like to renew your subscription, please let the office know and return your check for $17 no later than August 20. Those that are al-ready getting the magazine will be fine to continue, just give your payment to the church office. If you do not get the magazine cur-rently and would like to start, just let the office know and pay the fee. If you have any questions, please call Sheri in the office 682-7474. Pastor Jim Jobst has accepted a call to serve as missionary at-large for the mid-south district while also serving a congregation in Magnolia, Arkansas. We want to pray God’s blessings upon Pas-tor Jim and Vivian as they transition to this new field of service. On Sunday, August 23rd at the 10:45 worship service we will observe the Rite of Sending for Pastor Jim and Vivian. Following that service, we will be having a pot-luck in the fellowship hall. The main entrée and drinks will be provided. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. The congregation will also present Pastor Jim with a special gift at that time to thank him for his service. Our congregational picnic will be on Sunday, September 20th, 2015 at Wollman Park at Noon. The Board of Fellowship will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, chili and drinks. Bring a dish to share and come enjoy the afternoon!!! We will also have a bouncy house for the kids to enjoy!!

Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost

First Reading Lector: The First reading for The Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost is from the book of 1 Kings Chapter 19 verses 1-8. Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.” Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. People: But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down un-der a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.” And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.” Lector: And he looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. And he ate and drank and lay down again. And the angel of the LORD came again a second time and touched him and said, “Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.” And he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mount of God. This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God!

Psalm Lector: The Psalm for today is Psalm 34 verses 1-8. I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall con-tinually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, mag-nify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the LORD, and he answered me and de-livered me from all my fears. People: Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blesséd is the man who takes refuge in him! ALL: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be! Amen!

The Second Reading Lector: The Epistle reading for today is from the book of Ephesians Chapter 4 verse 17—Chapter 5 verse 2. Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.

People: But that is not the way you learned Christ!— assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, Put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteous-ness and holiness. Lector: Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. People: And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of re-demption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Lector: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God!

The Gospel Reading

Lector: The Holy Gospel for today is from the book of John Chapter 6 verses 35-51. Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and who-ever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. People: And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” Lector: So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. People:No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— not that anyone has seen the Fa-ther except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. Lector: Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” This is the Word of the Lord.
