Using 2013 Tiger Address Range Feature Shapefileswritten by Barbara Parmenter, 3/1/2014

To geocode anywhere in the US

This tutorial assumes you have an Excel file of addresses to geocode

Get Street file from Census Bureau Using a web browser, go to http://census.gov Click on the Geography tab and then go to TIGER

Choose TIGER/Line Shapefiles

Click on 2013 tab, then Web Interface

In the list under Select a Layer Type, scroll down to Feature Relationships and click on Relationship Files

Address Range – Feature Shapefile (be very careful– there are several with similar names!) and select your state

Select your county and then download

Extract with Power Archiver or other decompression software

Add it to an ArcMap session

Examine the attribute table

Go to ArcToolbox – Geocoding Tools - Create Address Locator tool…

Now try geocoding against this new street centerline file:

Fill out the information for the Excel table…

Check your results!
